It has one or two funny scenes and that is perhaps the only positive thing I can say about this film. A repetitive film made worse by pretty much having one set, which gets tiring very very fast. A cast of random characters somehow gathered together to perform a set of random tasks. I personally expected the film to be more focused on Chinese mythical creature, but the little furry animal has nothing mythic about it at all, it's just a ... black and white pherbie. The story itself has no direction at all which makes the whole film feel pointless. A waste of a strong cast (not saying they can act), and shows the disappointingly sad decline of the director who once made Initial D and Internal Affairs.

I was hoping for some family entertainment at the level of Monster Hunt. The creature was cute, but someone decided to include a boring story of thieves who talk for ever and there they lost me and I started fast-forwarding.
Despite the movie supposed revolving around the monster, it makes very rare appearances, so be warned about that. Save time, watch somenthing else
I love this cute monster!!!

Fun!! . . . though not well received, but I don't know what part it is, of what the word "fantasy" refers to, that some reviewers don't get, so I'm giving this movie poetic license.
Perhaps it's just me, because I'll put up with a lot for the sake of ENTERTAINMENT, but there's a good story line here, lots of characters with different orientations on the thematic content and I enjoyed the funny things that the characters say to one another. In its nascent form, the monster is, perhaps, a little too cute, but I don't care if it is. The main demerit I can see is how formulaic the structure of the action is. However, that trait does make it quite accessible to certain age and cultural cohorts, so, when taken as a counter-balance to the complex interactions between characters and situations, the prosaic trajectory of the action is a plus.
