East Berlin had no street lights. The distinction between East and West Berlin was dramatic when flying into Templehof airport with the total blackness of East Berlin, then a ribbon of bright lights on the wall then the lights of West Berlin, a 'normal' city.
As the helicopter lands in the ice fields the graphics inform the audience that this is Alaska.
However the country letters on the tail of the helicopter are LN which is the code for Norway. It would not be possible for a helicopter to fly from Norway to Alaska. Obviously, therefore, filmed in Norway and made out to be Alaska for script purposes.
The Helicopter is marked Sysselmannen, and is also seen landing at what appears to be the old mining facility in Svalbard. Sysselmannen operates in Svalbard, an Island of the coast of Norway.
