Just not my cup of tea

I switched off forty minutes into the first episode. It didn't ring true, there was too much unexplained, it was actually irritating and I didn't warm to the characters at all.

We have a mother who, it appears, didn't know a thing about her son despite an apparently close relationship with him. She didn't know he swung both ways (I assume) with an Arab thug, she didn't know that he was on the arts scene as an exhibit as well as a spectator. It was never explained how typically Swedish parents had a son who clearly looked as if he came from the sub-continent.

That Samuel would have been working in the Swedish immigration and refugee visa department was vanishingly unlikely. That he would have been part of a clandestine group getting migrants into the country was preposterous.

I had a sense of the screenplay spiralling out of control with ever more absurd plot twists about to be sprung on us. I just got to the point when I had simply had enough and reached for the remote control to get rid of it. I might just add that I was watching a version dubbed into Norwegian, for heaven's sake, called "Alt eg ikkje minnest" which added to my frustration as although I need subtitles for Swedish which I can follow to some extent, I find Nynorsk and local Norwegian dialects pretty impenetrable.

A definite no-no.

Interesting plot, cinematography and carecters. Love the visual poetry of this series. Absolutely seeworthy. Armand Mirpour is amazing as Samuel. Hope to see him much more in the future.
