I almost fell asleep
greatwallwalker9 December 2018
I was expecting something rather special from this, especially with the announcement of the incredibly talented queens scheduled to feature, but the end result was just disappointing. It was a heavily scripted, cheesy, and boring advertisement for RuPaul's new Christmas album....and not a very good Christmas album. We are left wondering what they did with the 'magic' that makes the regular series episodes so fabulously entertaining, and not only that, it seems to strip away all but a smidgen of festive cheer. And then comes the RuPaul and Michelle Visage lip-sync... with RuPaul looking incredibly wooden, and Michelle seemingly recreating Charlie Hides disastrous lipsync from season 9. With a lipsync performance that bad, the queens must be questioning if these two are fit to judge lipsync performances. In all, this spectacular was a mess. It didn't dazzle, it didn't entertain, and it didn't Slay!

Blatant Cash Grab
michaeledward12129 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This Holi-Slay Spectacular was nothing but a cash grab on Rupaul's part. The whole "special" played like an advertisement for his new album (now available on iTunes). Spoiler alert! No queen was crowned "Christmas Queen" and instead Ru declared every participant a winner and then proceeded to do a heavily edited lip sync against Michelle Visage with no shortage of stunt double footage. I'm all for fun, meaningless episodes of drag race, but to market it as something grander than it is, and to mislead viewers is just bad marketing.

Really..

Honestly this was just promotion for RuPauls new Christmas Album. It was essentially one long music video. Sure it's always enjoyable to see your favorite queens but this was awful. I would not call this a race or a competition what so ever.

Never cringed so hard

Warning: Spoilers
This was physically hard to watch. It was so obviously not about the queens at all, and all about Rupaul's new Christmas album (which is available on iTunes, the queens plug and plug). They brought queens in to either hype them up for their upcoming all stars 4 appearance, or to try and attract their fan base ( trixie, shangela etc.) also the lip sync at the end with Michelle and rupaul was so hard to watch because I get that it's supposed to obviously not be them doing the flips and splits but Euch is all I have to say. Hard pass, don't watch this absolute bull.

A fun way to celebrate christmas
springsummersdragqueen17 December 2018
You guys are way too harsh and i'm not quite sure what you were expecting. This was a fun special bringing us our favorite queenz and cute numbers and an iconic "lip sync" between Ru and Michelle, all while plugging RuPauls christmas album and celebrating everything gay. It's sad this received a 4/10 when it's really not that bad. Open your hearts, let loose and have fun.

Just gonna say it: TERRIBLE
littlemcarthur10 December 2018
This holiday special was just so past nonsensical, it bordered on stupidity. A shame, considering the talented cast.

It was confusing and dry. Then "Michelle" & "RuPaul" lip sync...? Was it meant to be funny??? Were we meant to be fooled???

Judge for yourself, but this special really didn't live up to any of the hype.

So far from a Christmas miracle
cleosummers6 January 2019
Terribly cheesy from start to end and not in a good way!!! The whole episode was just a weird plug for Rupaul's album! No genuine work shop chat from the queens or any competition, instead just low quality lip syncs!

Don't waste 40 mins on this rubbish!

Heavily Scripted Sacharrin
nephalinesyenite30 December 2018
I'm a big RPDR fan, and have watched every season, starting back in 2009. Was hoping this Christmas special would be just as entertaining, but I was sorely disappointed. As other reviewers have mentioned, this special is just blatant advertising for Rupaul's Christmas album; heavily scripted, saccharin, unfulfilling cheese. Particularly awful was Ru & Michelle's lip sync performances near the end of the special. It was obvious that Michelle was not into it, and the ridiculous dance stunt doubles were used for Ru and Michelle, filmed from behind for splits, deathdrops, and cartwheels made a sad number. It would of been preferable to just have Ru and Michelle dance enthusiastically and authentically to a song they both loved, perhaps "We are Family"?

In between scenes for the episode,Ross Mathews played a miniature "Santa's gayest elf of all" , while I thought he did a decent job as a giggling elf, these little bits were irritating and unneeded. While I would not recommend this special there were a few positives: 1) Mayhem Miller's runway look was sickening, Kim Chi and Trixie were my other favs. 2)Sonique is the first fully transitioned queen featured on RPDR, even though this holiday special is not a true competition, it's still a positive step forward.

Unadulterated Cringe

I know Christmas is all about the cheese, ugly sweaters, bad movies and dad jokes, but this is taking it WAY too far. I hate how fully curated and scripted the whole thing was, and it doesn't at all reflect what I really love about the show, what a shame...

Why it gotta be hate?!!
tarryn-002223 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Why all the hate for this holiday special in the comments?? It was just for fun. OBVIOUSLY Ru and Michelle had stunt doubles, but who the hell cares?! Come on guys, be real here, they are not lying when they are concerned about their hips, they are not 20 yrs old anymore.

I think it was extremely sweet and endearing and I loved this little Christmas inspired episode to promote the joy of the holidays in drag and also Ru's album. Y'all got the memo right? This is what RuPaul does, drag and music... Why you gagging so? They bring it to you every episode!!

Did you expect a cut-throat shade filled show full of pissed off queens bringing the drama? Hell no..

This was an awesome little bit of off-the-cuff fun and I am glad they did it. If I was there however, I would have given the Christmas Crown to Ross Mathews because he was freeking ADORABLE as Santa's little helper <3.
