What’s the best destination for spring TV? IndieWire doesn’t have a definitive answer, but as we do every month we’ll help you weigh the options with a breakdown of everything coming to your favorite streaming platforms in May.
The month is a prime time to have Disney+, what with the ongoing and buzzy success of “X-Men 97” and upcoming “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” going behind the scenes of the reboot series. May is of course the month of Star Wars, and the House of Mouse will celebrate with “Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” on May 4. Disney is also home to BBC America’s “Doctor Who,” which returns for a highly-anticipated 14th season with Ncuti Gatwa stepping into the Tardis as the new Doctor (he stepped into the role in December 2023 as part of the series’ beloved Christmas special tradition).

Gordon Ramsay has cooked up a major deal with Fox Entertainment that will see the celebrity chef and broadcaster launch a new production company and sign a major overall deal.
Ramsay and Fox have launched Studio Ramsay Global with the Rupert Murdoch-owned network funding the acquisition of 100% of Ramsay’s existing television business, Studio Ramsay, which was a partnership with All3Media.
Deadline understands that the deal is in the nine-figure range and Fox beat out a number of networks and studios to secure the chef’s kitchen expertise.
Fox Alternative Entertainment will serve as the production for the new company and it marks Fox’s first acquisition in the non-scripted space.

It’s a bold, new post-Loki world for Disney+. To deal with it, Disney+ is going right back to the Marvel well for its list of August 2021 new releases.
Marvel’s What If…? premieres August 11 on Disney+. This is an animated series that will feature speculative stories within the MCU like “What if Peggy Carter became Captain America?”, “What if the Ravagers took T’Challa to space?”, and “What if…zombies?!?!?!” While What…If? always seemed like a fun thought exercise, the series has really taken on a vital multiversal context in light of Loki‘s conclusion.
In non-Marvel news, Disney+ will be filling out its library offerings this month. Mrs. Doubtfire arrives on August 6 and will be followed by Eragon on August 20. After its brief premier access release, Cruella will make itself a permanent, free home on Disney on August 27.
There aren’t many other original Disney+ series to speak of in August.

July is the month that North America goes back to the movies in earnest. There have already been some theatrical release of note this summer, but as everyone knows the blockbuster movie season doesn’t get started until a Marvel movie premieres. Thankfully, with its list of new releases for July 2021, Disney+ is offering up some options for those who prefer to stay home.
In addition to arriving in theaters on July 9, Black Widow will premiere on Disney+ as well. Disney+ subscribers can purchase the first Marvel movie released since 2019 for $29.99. Judging by the early buzz, that “Premier Access” price may be worth it. Disney+ is keeping the original summer movie parade going in July with The Rock’s latest action film, Jungle Cruise, premiering on July 30.

The world shut down for nearly a year, but a little global pandemic wasn’t enough to stop Gordon Ramsay from adventuring across the globe for his National Geographic series.
“Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted” returns to National Geographic tonight (new episodes will be available for streaming the next day on Disney+) with Season 3, which follows Ramsay as he journeys to various culinary hotspots to learn about different cooking methods and cultures. The latest season of the show follows the celebrity chef as he visits Portugal, Croatia, Mexico, Texas, Maine, Puerto Rico, Iceland, the Smoky Mountains, Michigan, and Finland.
Returning viewers will be immediately at home with the structure of “Uncharted” Season 3. As before, Ramsay teams up with each locale’s chefs, wildlife experts, and others to source various ingredients, learn about local cooking practices, and participate in high-stakes adventuring, which range from hunting rattlesnakes in Texas to scaling the slippery coastal slopes of Portugal.

In the “pre-show to the big show,” the Walt Disney Company put on a full-fledged production for its press briefing ahead of its upfront presentation later Tuesday, highlighting its full array of networks, from ESPN to ABC to NatGeo. While the presentation was a little light on details, FX boss John Landgraf did reveal that the highly anticipated Season 3 of “Atlanta” is currently in production in Paris and Amsterdam (after encountering delays last fall due to the coronavirus pandemic).
Briefly knocked off course by a technical glitch, the two-hour-long Disney upfront briefing featured puppies (courtesy of NatGeo), Peyton Manning (an expansion of “Peyton’s Places”) and a series of executives promising watchable slates for the fall.

Gordon Ramsay is to host his first ever game show after his production company scored a primetime commission from the BBC.
The British public broadcaster has ordered Bank Balance, a show described as greed versus strategy.
The Hell’s Kitchen star is fronting the show, which will see contestants compete in a high-stakes, high-pressure quiz, where they can literally build themselves a fortune or see it come crashing down in an instant.
The BBC won the rights after a competitive pitch and “a few weeks of intense negotiations”, according to Studio Ramsay. Tabloid reports earlier in the summer had suggested that the show would air on rival ITV. Filming will begin later this year.
The production company is currently in discussions with networks for a U.S. version of the show. You’d have thought that Fox might be participating in those discussions given the fact that Ramsay hosts and executive...

Gordon Ramsay is well-known in America for shows such as “Hell’s Kitchen,” where the biggest danger is whatever he’ll scream at a hapless chef whose cooking isn’t up to snuff. But in “Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted” the celebrity chef has to contend with more material dangers, such as avoiding being eaten by a species of giant crocodiles and dodging venomous snakes.
“I went into the shallow waters in the jungle in Guyana to chase the caiman. You have to be careful that it’s not the black caiman, which are protected. You need to know your shit and take the safety briefing properly,” Ramsay said in an interview with IndieWire earlier in the year. “From infested waters with giant, highly poisonous snakes to the most amazing caiman you’re creeping up on, you’ve gotta be quick. There are no second thoughts. Second thoughts, you’re gonna get taken out.

Gordon Ramsay is cooking up something funny at Fox.
The famous chef, who already has multiple unscripted shows on the network, is developing a single-camera comedy about, you guessed it, a chef.
The project has received a script order from Fox and also hails from writing executive producers Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, as well as Gail Berman and Fox Entertainment’s recently launched SideCar Content Accelerator.
The prospective series centers around a young chef named Laura, who decides to strike out on her own after a huge blow up with her perfectionist, demanding, Gordon Ramsay-like mentor. Thinking there’s got to be a better way to run a kitchen, she opens her own restaurant. But after a twist of fate throws them back together, she finds herself stuck with her opinionated, foul mouthed former boss, not only in her kitchen, but in her personal life too.

Fox has ordered a third season of “Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back.”
The show features Ramsay traveling to struggling restaurants around the country in his mobile kitchen and command center, Hell on Wheels, as he goes in undercover to see their problems first-hand. After that, Ramsay and his team redesign the interior, menu and kitchen in just 24 hours. Fox has commissioned 10 episodes for the third season.
Ramsay, Tim Warren, Kenny Rosen, Elvia Van Es Oliva, and Layla Smith serve as executive producers on the series, which is produced by Studio Ramsay.
With the renewal, Ramsay will have at least three — if not four — shows on Fox for the foreseeable future. Ramsay also has “Hell’s Kitchen,” “MasterChef,” and “MasterChef Junior” at the broadcaster in addition to “24 Hours to Hell and Back.” “MasterChef” is currently its tenth season, with that show expected to be renewed for an eleventh.
