A good Christmas story!
akicork10 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand what some other reviewers are getting upset about, nor why they are marking this episode down. The agents are in hot pursuit (which gives *them* certain rights) of the suspect in a vicious murder, who, when questioned, pulls a weapon and opens fire on them. Of course they return fire! And as for him "just defending his baby" - he wasn't! For a start it was not his baby, and it is pretty clear that he knew that he would be arrested for baby trafficking. He responded to what he saw as his future in the way you might expect from a vicious drug user. Sloane's advice to the mother was in the context of her professional experience. The girl would have struggled to bring up the child, and had already reached agreement with the adoption agency and adoptive parents before she was dazzled by a "vast" sum (which she would not be allowed to keep!) for the illegal transaction.

Pretty bad

Warning: Spoilers
The way they forced their way into the suspect's apartment was just horrible. Gibbs smacking the guy's head with the door, and pushing him until he pulled a gun, then shot and killed him. Turns out he was just defending his baby! The way they handled it afterward was equally bad. I figured maybe they'd attempt to redeem it but if they did, they failed.

Definitely skip this episode.

NCIS breaks the law, violates suspects rights, kills him
billhaughton23 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I know, they push the envelope occasionally, but this time, they have no permission to enter an apartment, so Gibbs smashes the door into the suspect's face. When the suspect tells them to leave, they end up in a stand-off, and kill the hell out of him.

Later, Shrinky Lady tells young mother, you should not keep your baby, you should give it up for adoption.

They are all just a bit too arrogant this time around.

Cute baby, but does not redeem the episode.

Once in Gibbs' Federal City
chrishoggart-3032921 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An absolute travesty of an episode that should be erased & struck from the record immediately.

From the ridiculous procedural errors made by Gibbs and the team,,via the schmaltz of keeping the baby at HQ and.the clumsy attempt to give Kasie a back-story, to Jack's biased advice to give up the child and the ensuing adoptive Xmas "miracle" - this is a crass attempt of the worst kind to make a Yuletide heart string puller. It fails on each and every level!

Whoever gave this script the green light needs stringing up in tinsel and hanging from the highest fir tree in the most remote forest in the world...

Not Great

Warning: Spoilers
Not a big fan of the new Abby , she has tried far too hard to be weird from day one. This episode tries to bring a back story on for her and make us feel sorry for the character- but again tries too hard, and does just make you cringe as you can see what is going on from the start. This is one of the worst NCIS episodes across the board and I do like the show a lot. Such a shame- please get a grip guys and get back to doing what the show does best.

Was ok earlier on, but one moment...
gmartin-755077 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
How on earth is Jackie telling the birth mother not to keep her child - which McGee specifically mentions earlier broke down crying when she gave it up the first time - a Christmas thing? If they'd just made it the mother's decision, rather than Jackie's... Seriously why find her at all if you weren't going to let her have it back?

What Child is This?
bobcobb3014 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Without question the worst NCIS of the season. The midseason finale you expect to deliver, but this missed on almost every level.

They tried to give us emotion and it failed and even the comedy didn't work.

Tries too hard to pull at every heart string

This has every holiday trope. It has the most plots I have ever seen an NCIS episode. It may have the most plots I have ever seen in a one-hour TV show.

Very average!

When it comes to "What Child is This?" it's a very basic NCIS Christmas episode. Not a lot of new ideas or intrigue was sadly in the episode. It's watchable though.

NCIS are the criminals
evpersimdb10 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So they broke in to the guys house, break his nose and then kill him. Who are the actual bad guys here?

I guess law enforcement doesn't have to follow the law? This was such BS. They should all be going to jail for murder. The Gibbs tough act is so worn out and now he just doesn't even pretend to follow the laws.

When law enforcement is far more violent criminal and "criminals" it's time to put them in jail.
