A Must See For Anyone With Doubts
mjcolton1 October 2020
First Contact is an amazing documentary-style show based in Canada. The show takes blissfully ignorant white people of many different backgrounds and biases and shows them what Indigenous Canada is really like. Most participants enter holding many negative and racist stereotypes against Indigenous People. Many of the participants eventually go in with an open mind and are able to eventually see what is wrong with this country, including, but not limited to, Canada's deeply rooted systemic racism. Throughout each season, the participants are taken to many different Canadian cities as well as more isolated reserves. It is important to watch this show for all people, but especially for those who are racist towards Indigenous people. This is because they address many of Canada's negative stereotypes including alcohol and substance abuse, taxes, greed and the overall thinking that Indigenous people are given everything but seem to be the ones complaining most. It is a very insightful show as it has authentic stories and voices, which is really the most important. We, as a country, can't learn from our mistakes concerning Indigenous communities if we don't seek Indigenous voices and opinions.
