Quotes

  • Superman : You can't just wear that symbol on your chest and call yourself a hero, Deegan. Our powers amplify who we are. And the way you've been using yours tells me you don't have the mettle for this.

Elseworlds Superman : No. No, you're wrong. I did... I didn't think big enough. I won't make that mistake again.

[Amazo breaches in; it absorbs Clark's heat vision and fires it back at him]

Elseworlds Superman : You see? There is no defeating me. I AM THE MASTER OF THIS WORLD!

Lois Lane : [breaching in with J'onn and Brainy]  Blah, blah, blah. It's a bit much, don't you think?

Superman : [surprised and confused]  Honey?

Lois Lane : [nonchalantly]  Yes, dear?

  • [first lines]

Dr. John Deegan : My name is John Deegan, and I'm from Gotham, a city in grave need of heroes. As a doctor at Arkham Asylum, I did my part by protecting this city from the criminially insane. The world didn't understand my methods, so I worked in secret until, one day, when a cosmic being recognized my potential and gave me the chance to be something greater. Someone greater.

[becoming a Bizarro-ish version of Superman]

Elseworlds Superman : Now I am Superman.

  • Elseworlds Superman : There's no place you can run that I can't find you.

    Oliver Queen : [quietly]  What?

    Elseworlds Superman : It's over.

Oliver Queen : What are you talking about?

Barry Allen : Clark, it's us. Barry and Oliver.

Elseworlds Superman : Oh, I know who you are. Your confusion lies with me.

Oliver Queen : [realizing]  Deegan. The Monitor gave you the book back?

Elseworlds Superman : And showed me how to *really* use it.

  • Elseworlds Superman : Idiots. I'm bulletproof.

    Oliver Queen : I know.

[he shoots at a nearby crane; it teeters, ready to fall]

Barry Allen : You want to be Earth's hero? Save the children or stop us.

Oliver Queen : Your choice, "Superman".

  • Kara Danvers : I know the real man who wears that glyph. It's not you. You're not Superman.

Elseworlds Superman : And yet, I am all that you once were. No offense to Barry Allen, but as a hero, you... you are so much more than just faster than a speeding bullet.

Kara Danvers : So you're imitating my powers and my family crest, but not my gender? Too afraid to be a woman?

Elseworlds Superman : Oh, I'm not afraid of anything. The Book of Destiny revealed to me all there is to know about Barry Allen and Oliver Queen, but for you and this Man of Steel, there was nothing. Nothing but the android you fought in Central City. It's... It's as if you don't exist in this world.

Kara Danvers : That's why you locked me up and dampened my powers.

  • Superman : Doctor, could I have a word, please?

[they grab each other and fly away]

Cisco Ramon : [opening a breach]  Well, that's my cue. I'm out! You ladies have fun.

  • J'onn J'onzz : I hope to see you all again soon.

Superman : Preferably without giving Lois another reason to dive head-first into danger.

Lois Lane : I dive where you dive, babe.

  • Clark Kent : Hey, you really are so much stronger than me, Kara. Every time we're together, I see it. Which is why I know what I'm doing is okay.

Kara Danvers : What are you doing, Clark?

Lois Lane : You need to stop beating around the bush. People like people who are direct.

Kara Danvers : What is going on?

  • Lois Lane : I told you we had a lot of fun on Argo.

Clark Kent : Lois. Lois, Lois.

Lois Lane : What? We're all adults.

Kara Danvers : Are you having a baby?

[realizing it's true, she hugs them in support and excitement]

Kara Danvers : Oh, my god! Oh, my god! Congratulations. This is so great. I'm so happy for you.

Clark Kent : And-and the safest place for Lois to be is on Argo.

Lois Lane : When the baby starts kicking.

Kara Danvers : Oh, yeah. That would be awful. So you're gone another nine months?

Clark Kent : Uh... a little longer than that.

  • Lois Lane : Honestly, the world might be fine with just Kara Danvers. Your cousin ain't half bad. Clark? Clark!

    Superman : [distracted]  What?

Lois Lane : Quick, it's burning.

Superman : Oh! Oh, no! No!

Lois Lane : [pouring her drink on the fire to put it out]  Next time, just use your heat vision.

Superman : Oh, you're right. I'm sorry. I'm... I just... I wanted tonight to be special.

    Lois Lane : Why?

Superman : Because I want every night to be special. I mean, with you. But also special. Forever. With you. I am so bad at this.

Lois Lane : What did I tell you, Kansas? Be direct.

[he retreives a piece of coal, crushes it into a diamond, and places it in an engagement ring]

    Superman : Lois Lane...

[as an acceptance, she kisses him]

Superman : That's all I had to say?

    Lois Lane : Yeah.

Superman : I like this direct thing.

  • Superman : Barry and Kara. You had more faith than I did.

Green Arrow : Well, I don't know Kara as well as I know Barry, but when things get tough, he doesn't slow down. He digs deeper and runs faster.

    Superman : That's my cousin to a T.

  • Barry Allen : You can't just write yourelf as a hero. It... it doesn't work that way.

Elseworlds Superman : Doesn't it, though? You were struck by lightning, I was given the book by a higher power. Both random acts of chance. But this... this is my destiny, so much more than becoming the Flash was ever yours.

Barry Allen : People don't become heroes because of circumstance. They become heroes in spite of circumstance.

Oliver Queen : You're just a cheap knockoff.

Elseworlds Superman : Oh, I'm anything but cheap.

[he fires his heat vision at them]

Elseworlds Superman : And just wait until you see what other fun changes I've made. To your family, your friends. There is no safe harbor for you. This is no longer your world. It's MINE!

  • John Diggle : Congratulations, sir.

Killer Frost : The way you caught that crane, like it weighed nothing.

John Diggle : Very, very impressive.

Elseworlds Superman : [smashing a console]  The fugitives escaped!

John Diggle : Sir, we are quite sure you will bring them back to justice.

Killer Frost : No one can escape Superman.

Elseworlds Superman : You really think so?

John Diggle : Sir, you are far too powerful.

  • Superman : Still Barry?

Oliver Queen : Oh, no, we...

    Barry Allen : No, yeah...

    Oliver Queen : Yeah.

Superman : Oh, so it's fixed. That's great.

    Oliver Queen : Well...

Superman : [noticing Cisco]  Oh, no. Kara?

Cisco Ramon : Mr. Ramon. Am I supposed to believe this guy's Superman? What'd, you get him off the street? You don't even look like him.

  • Cisco Ramon : [noticing a machine in the Fortress]  Hey, uh, what's this?

Lois Lane : [he presses a button and a bright light flashes]  Yeah, you, uh... you really shouldn't touch that.

Cisco Ramon : Hey, you could throw a party with this thing. Get some party favors; you know, I know a guy.

Barry Allen : Look, everything is back to normal. Well, not everything.

    Superman : Where's Kara?

  • Barry Allen : He's changed all of Central City. Maybe even the whole world. Everybody thinks he's you and we're bad.

Cisco Ramon : I mean, I am bad.

Oliver Queen : Hey, bottom line? Kara's nowhere to be found.

Barry Allen : If we get the book back, we should be able to re-write reality again.

Cisco Ramon : Yeah? And how are you gonna do that? You got a magic pen lying around somewhere behind these ice walls?

Superman : No, it's not a pen. It's just the mind. I've encountered books like this before. The author writes things into existence through sheer force of will. But changing the story comes at a cost.

  • Lois Lane : Do you have any idea where the book is?

Barry Allen : If I were him, I'd keep it somewhere secure enough to also hold a Kryptonian.

Oliver Queen : Easy. S.T.A.R. Labs. That place is under lock and key. I did time there once.

Oliver Queen : Hey, so do we.

Barry Allen : We... we did.

Cisco Ramon : What'd you do? Did I say you could touch me?

    [to Barry]

Cisco Ramon : Did I say he could touch me?

    Barry Allen : I don't know.

Cisco Ramon : I missed that part.

Superman : [simultaneously with Lois]  I have to go.

Lois Lane : You have to go.

  • Elseworlds Superman : Well, well, well. A traitor in our midst.

Killer Frost : You know, when I said you should get out there and start dating, Danvers, this isn't quite what I had in mind.

Elseworlds Superman : I warned you.

Kara Danvers : No, I tricked her into opening my cell. We don't know each other.

Alex Danvers : Yes, we do. She's my sister.

Elseworlds Superman : [preparing to fire his heat vision]  Oh... well, then you can burn together.

Superman : [breaching in with the others]  Hi. Nice suit.

  • Elseworlds Superman : [with Barry in a headlock]  Make him close it or I snap his neck!

    Oliver Queen : No!

Elseworlds Superman : Then your friend dies.

Oliver Queen : [drawing a kryptonite arrow]  Not if I kill you first.

Barry Allen : Oliver, don't! Not to save me. Okay, you don't have to do this. You don't have to channel your darkness. You can overcome it. You can be different. You can be better. Maybe that's it. Maybe that's the Monitor's test.

  • Supergirl : What's happening?

Oliver Queen : Deegan must be rewriting reality again.

    Superman : Or destroying it.

Barry Allen : There might be a way to slow him down. We literally slow down time.

    [seeing Oliver's look]

Barry Allen : Come on, that's got to be, like, only the fourth most crazy thing you've heard in the past three hours.

  • Supergirl : How do we slow down time, Barry?

Barry Allen : If Supergirl and I travel around the globe in opposite directions at just over mach seven, we should be able to create enough centrifugal force to slow the Earth's rotation.

    Supergirl : And everything else.

Oliver Queen : Rip the book out of Deegan's hands, and everything goes back to normal.

Supergirl : We can do this.

Superman : [they turn to leave]  You both die.

    [they turn back]

Superman : When I opened the book, I... I watched both of you die, doing exactly what you're talking about. If it's in the book...

Oliver Queen : It's destiny. I believe Clark.

Supergirl : We have to try something.

    [to Barry]

    Supergirl : You ready?

    Barry Allen : Yeah.

Superman : [they speed away]  Kara!

  • Superman : Where are you going?

Oliver Queen : I have an idea. Just... get the book.

Superman : And Barry and Kara?

Oliver Queen : We need to hope destinies can be re-written.

  • Superman : It's over, Deegan.

Elseworlds Superman : NO! I decide whose story ends!

Lois Lane : I like you better in blue.

  • Clark Kent : Look, this fight, it... it reminded me of everything that I could lose. But the only reason I feel safe hanging up my cape for a while is because of you. The world doesn't need Superman if it has Supergirl.

Lois Lane : It's actually probably a bit safer.

Clark Kent : [a little insulted]  Oh!

Lois Lane : A study out of Harvard last year said that women respond better than men under competitive pressure.

    Kara Danvers : Oh.

Lois Lane : We are better in a crisis. More apt to ask questions before punching.

    Kara Danvers : Hmm.

Lois Lane : [to Clark, supportively but still condescending]  Not that you are not totally terrific.

    Clark Kent : Uh-huh.

    [to Kara]

Clark Kent : Bottom line, the world's safe with you.

  • John Diggle : Sir, the Pipeline.

Killer Frost : Must be subject one. She's been making noise all morning.

John Diggle : [drawing his baton]  I'll handle this.

Elseworlds Superman : No! You stay on Allen and Queen. I'll handle her.

  • Elseworlds Superman : I don't know who you are. I don't know how you got here, but none of that matters because I am now you. New and improved. And you will never see the light of day again.

Kara Danvers : I'm gonna stop you.

Elseworlds Superman : There's nothing to stop. I am the hero this planet needs.

[she moves to punch the cell glass, but is stopped by a high-pitched ringing]

Elseworlds Superman : Thank you, Agent Danvers.

  • Elseworlds Superman : These cells are patrolled 24/7, so don't get any bright ideas, or you will end up hurting in a very painful way.

Alex Danvers : The only way out of here for you is in a casket.

Kara Danvers : [she turns to leave]  Wait! Alex.

Elseworlds Superman : Oh... oh, you think you know that agent. You see, I scrambled the reality of everyone on this Earth. No one is who they were. But... I guess even rewritten destiny has a way of playing jokes. You be a good prisoner, or I kill her.

    Kara Danvers : You're a monster.

Elseworlds Superman : No. I'm Superman.

  • Elseworlds Superman : [battling Superman]  How does it feel to be the villain for once?

  • Kara Danvers : Wow! You did so much work while I was gone. This place looks amazing.

Clark Kent : Yeah, well, I wanted to make sure it was all good for Ma.

    Kara Danvers : Aw...

Clark Kent : So, uh, Brainy and J'onn went back to National City?

    Kara Danvers : Duty calls.

Clark Kent : Well, I hope you realize that being a part of the DEO, not being a part of the DEO, you don't need an organization to keep the world safe. And no matter the universe, you and Alex, you'll find a way to have each other's backs.

  • Clark Kent : The world doesn't need Superman if it has Supergirl.
