I enjoyed the beautiful landscapes of Latvia: Riga with its medieval and also Art Nouveau architecture, the beach in Liepja, the huge castle of Rundale or the caves at Ligatne.
Latvia has a great history, the Presence of the Geermans, then of the Swedes and later of the Russians: at the end of the eighties begins the fight from the independence: on 23th of August 1989 the Baltic chain (about 2 millions de persons over 650 kilometers through Lithuania, Latvi and Estonia), the pacific singing demonstrations and later the celebration of the indendence in Riga on 21rst of August 1991: Some young men like Ivars Betans (now manager of Aerodium) and Janiste Geste (now TV presenter, remember these events (a very dynamic generation).
I enjoyed the zoom about the Central Market of Riga (build in 1930), 5 huge buildings and in its underground the cold storage rooms (one of the first cold storage rooms in Europe): the manager of the Great market , Ivars Jakovels is pround of the first compressor of the cold storage rooms: besides we meet two young fishermen (Maskim and Einards) who have fished salmons and perchs and will sell they in the great market.
We meet also two young entrepreneurs: Linard Liberts who collects birch sap , a fresh beverage (birch juice) and transforms it into a champagne and Justs who manages the factory of balzam (a 260 years old liquor made with herbs, roots and berries).
Ivar Betns, the manager of Aeodium manages a tornado wind tunnel where the vistors can practice sky diving.
I appreciate also the travel to Jurmala, the seaside resort with its wooden house: during the Soviet occupation these wooden houses were confiscated and the owners were sent to Siberian: but some former olders like Helija Stanislavska has come back, has recovered and restored family house.
In the prison of Karosta the visitors can live the stories of the Latvian prisoners through a interactive visit (comedians play the role of prison guards and the visitors become for a while the Latvian prisoners).
Latvia is a country where people enjoy singing : we meet Ivars Cinkuss, the director of the choir "Gaudeamus" during a rehearsal: later men choirs and women choirs take part to auditions for the best men choir and the best women choir in Latvia.
I enjoyed very much the encounters of Sophie with Eric and Dida , with Anna Mutore, with Anna Viduleja, with Dzintars Kristovskis, with Oskars Okonovs, with Lize and her husband Ivars, with Janis and Kristine Praulije , with Imants Lacmanis and Edgars Nielands in Rundale and with Juris Zigelis:; very nice encounters with kind Latvian men and women.
