Simple, But Well Executed
qrwilson8 July 2021
Really, this episode is a welcome change of pace to the season. While the plot is nothing extraordinary, it's able to stay entertaining regardless.

However, this episode becomes more interesting for one major reason; Scott Malkinson actually gets to take center stage. After seeing this episode and the Vaccination Special, I'm legitimatly interested in the direction they'll take his character in. I'm always open to fleshing out side characters!

Yeah, that's really about it. See ya!

I don't have cable either
ericstevenson6 December 2019
This episode revolves around Scott Malkinson. I don't think I'd ever heard of this character before. I thought I knew all the characters! Anyway, he's a kid with diabetes who meets a girl with diabetes. They to watch "The Mandolarian" on Disney+ which he has to get first. They do this funny "Cowboy Bebop" parody in the beginning.

Cable repair men are tired of losing business to streaming services, so they shut them all off. The end is easily the best part. It was great to see the references to all the other shows, including "PC Babies". They come up with a new intro all the time! I'm still looking forward to Netflix more. Baby Yoda always cheers me up. ***1/2

Probably my favorite of the season

Basic Cable isn't some hard hitting political episode of South Park, but just a fun little episode about Scott Malkinson. I enjoy the political episodes or the extremely news relevant episodes, but it is good to have episodes like this as well. The whole joke involving Scott Malkinson's dad and his job was hilarious.

Best ep this season
chingamatus5 December 2019
Best ep in years, loved it. Firstly they give the spotlight to scott malcansin who hasn't had it in awhile and introduce a new character. This so is like something from season 10-14 (Best seasons)

Call the number at the end.....
Reckno646 December 2019
Just be sure to call the number that appears at the end of the episode, you will NOT regret it!

The episode was simple and enjoyable, and I liked it. Nothing over the top here, just some poking fun at streaming services and cable tv (AND the cable tv repairmen always coming at the last minute). The new character Sophie was a pleasure to see, Scott Malkinson was great and I really enjoyed the episode. Wouldn't mind more like this!

But seriously call that number at the end that was easily the best part!

Still a better love story than Twilight
smilestherockstar8 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The synopsis is that Scott Malkinson and the rest of the boys fight over who gets to be with the new girl at their school. While Scott Malkinson's dad tries to take down every streaming service in town.

Yet another classic episode that doesn't rely on story arcs! The new intro is just as good as all of the other new ones this season. Unlike what the show usually does, this episode focuses on a background character named Scott Malkinson. Before this episode, the only jokes he gave in his little screen time was that he had a lisp and diabetes, heck, the episode even makes fun of that near the end (in which I even cried at). And now we see that Scott is really likeable and has more personality beyond his illnesses. He gets in a relationship with Sophie Grey, the new girl and it's already more interesting than Cartman and Heidi. I found it hilarious how everyone in the school, even the goth kids and Timmy wants to hit her up. Overall, Scott Malkinson is a great addition to the cast and I hope that Matt and Trey will put him in more episodes.

The second plot about Scott's dad taking down streaming services was just as good as the first one. I liked the joke of how the cable men waste their time while they're getting to someone's house. But most of all, I liked the seemingly creative yet immaturely offensive TV shows. Crab People was an amazing comeback from season 7, The Sister where a funny recreation of Terrance and Phillip and The Whites and the Blacks was the only time I ever laughed at the Whites! I also liked the whole message of streaming services taking over traditional cable. I was aware of this issue long before this episode but now with Disney+, AppleTV+ and HBO Max to name a few, it was clear that South Park had to make fun of this issue. Overall, this was needed to make the episode feel like modern South Park.

This is South Park.
wouldliveagain8 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode uncovers one of the least explored character in South Park. It contains plenty of gags and humor about diabetes and a light-hearted humor around cable TV. Scott tries to impress the new girl which happens to suffer from the same illness as him. Over the episode, his failing efforts and Cartman's insults towards diabetic children make the episode very enjoyable and giver the audience a sense of good ol' South Park.

It also ends on a good note despite the fact that Scott doesn't achieve his objectives and wraps the plot with a hammering conclussion: that every character in South Park is disfunctional, which in the case of Scott it means that his life is based upon his illness, with nothing to add.

The only negative point I can find in this episode is that the humor is pretty simple and I think that South Park always need that little spicy taste, but it's very enjoyable nevertheless.

Not a great episode
grim3213 December 2019
Probably one of the worst of the season. Scott is good, the new girl is good. I liked the interaction, but it felt... unfulfilling. No pay off, no real laughs aside from Scott doing yelling at kids. The gag of the cable guys being late gets old too, quite fast.

Overall - they could of definitely done more with this idea, rather than seemingly advertise all these companies, and an abrupt ending before the joke has paid off.

I called the number from Australia in my hospital bed... I did not regret it
MoistMovies6 December 2019
Such an amazing episode.. truly one that reminds me how friggen amazing Trey and Matt are.

They keep this show going in new ways, keeping it fresh... yet never losing what made the show great in the first place. To me they are truly the greatest animation story tellers out there and will be very hard to beat. Even rick and morty don't hold upto 50 of south parks greatest episodes.. Does rick and morty have 50 eps yet? I dunno, its a brilliant show too.. But south park is so well crafted in it's story telling and intertwining amazing jokes within those stories....

Trey and matt you are truly the greatest, I love you guys. And without south park, these last 3 weeks in hospital with excruciating pain... I would have gone mad if i hadn't kept watching south park. It's all I watched... and i like a lot of other shows... But south park can always make me laugh, and i have seen some episodes so many times that I could have it on as back ground noise more than anything and laugh at the random joke ill be paying attention to while writhing around in my hospital bed in pain because the pain medication people there were sadists. That's another story, for another day hahah

Never stop Trey and Matt. Please... We/I need south park in our lives to help with severe pain. Laughter is the only true natural remedy that someone can do without moving. I guess ice packs and hot packs too.. Haha

They should put the disclamer before broadcosting episodes like this
nikolastamenkovic6 December 2019
They should say that this episodes was completely payed by streaming companies, first it is not fun to watch it doesn't have anything to do with south park. Second it is completely off topic, my best guess is hulu and Disney offered them something they could refuse.... They disappointed me before as well, so next episode will be as well as the last episode for me.
