I thought this was a funny little episode, some really good lines. The only downside was that I felt that this iteration of Don Karnage was given a little too much screen time. He just wasn't as interesting as the original version. Credit should be given to the animators. A lot of effort must've been put into the airplane musical number.

Don Karnage

I have to say the reboot of the Ducktales is great. Little small things thrown into the shows to pay homage to the old series. The plot to this episode is actually really good dealing with Dewey being ignored. Scrooge is great as always Webbigail is one of my favorites with a better role then the original. There is something about her voice that is so entertaining. And the rest of the normal cast is great.

Then Don Karnage entered the episode. I have to admit that I am old school, and loved Don Karnage growing up. I am fine with a change in voice actors. But this Don Karnage lost something. The original was introduced as a clever yet flamboyant pirate. This version is more of a waiter in a theme restaurant. I think I might have liked it more if this is what they actually done. I waited for those great lines. "This is Don Karnage, speaking to you with my voice."

"This will be like taking candy from a little baby child"

But this all fell short. After watching the episode several times I can honestly say that a talespin reboot without a good Don Karnage or a good Sher Kahn would be an adjustment. And right now I am wanting a reboot of the rebooted Don Karnage. I am fine with the voice, just want more of the old personality. More cut throat and intimidating with a little less grasp of English makes a more interesting character. i think it might even have been better if he would just randomly replace words with Spanish. I knew this family in college in which the mom was Russian, dad was Mexican and the son was American. The fights they had where the best because it was just random on what language they would swap to mid sentence. You may not know exactly what they were saying if you did not have all three, but you knew what was going on.

Sorry. There just needed to be something better to be done. Plus I find myself relating with Scrooge and the intern. "What the was that" and "Has this song gone on too long"

Plus I am not a big fan of the iron vulture redesign, it kind of went in the same direction as Don Karnage. So three less stars for a long song, iron vulture, and Don Karnage. I still have hopes for a Talespin reboot or even another episode of Don Karnage seeking revenge on Scrooge and drops the singing and dancing to focus on a devious, most ingenious plan yet.

In the meantime, I have to admit that every time I watch this episode I go back to Talespin to get more Don Karnage. It helps.

Don Karnage without Homage

Definitely a missed opportunity. The newer Ducktales likes to pull things from other shows and poke a bit of fun and reinvent them, but the take on Don Karnage and the air pirates falls quite flat. Jim Cummings (who was brought on to voice Darkwing Duck's appearance in the Ducktales show) was not the voice of Don Karnage, and Jaime Camil did a very stilted, jarring rendition that didn't pay homage to the original well. That's really the problem here- there's little to no respect paid to the air pirates and Don Karnage from TaleSpin. The backup pirates are just that- and they're all the same lazy pirate stereotype. ... Not a good episode.
