The Animation, The Costumes, The Gadgets All Relate To The Original Comic Books
rannynm16 February 2023
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are ready to fight crime in the new animated series: Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur! Based on the comic book of the same name, this show highlights the world of S. T. E. M. to young children and inspires learning more about it. Fans of the original comic book and other Marvel fans will love the new series as well.

Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur follows 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette (Diamond White), who one day-while helping bring power back to her town-accidentally makes a time portal and spawns a ten-ton red T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur (Fred Tatasciore), into present-day New York City. The duo works together on missions to protect the city's Lower East Side from danger.

I love how well the series connects to the actual comic book featuring the main characters Lunella and Devil Dinosaur. From the animation, the costumes, to the gadgets, everything relates to the original comic story. My favorite part of the series is when Lunella is fighting multiple villains in the episode. During that time she is constantly asked what her hero name is and she never is able to give an answer. That scene adds humor to the show and gives a bit of backstory on the title. It's incredible how Marvel is now incorporating a kids' animated series to the MCU. It's a great addition! The characters are extremely relatable in this series. Great detail is given to character development and design, even down to Lunella's goggles. I love the way different shapes appear in them based on what she's saying or on her emotions. This show is highly creative.

This series highlights the importance of friendship, acceptance, being yourself and using your strengths to do something great. In the series, even though the Devil Dinosaur randomly shows up and is a different species, Lunella is able to bond and become friends with it. She also gets teased because she is extremely intelligent. When she accepts her gifts and becomes Moon Girl, she is then able to be herself and use her tech-savvy talents to help save her community.

I give this series 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for kids ages 5-12, plus adults. You can watch the premiere of Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur on Disney Channel on February 10, 2023, and on Disney+ starting February 15, 2023. By Tiana S., KIDS FIRST!

Fun For Kids and Adults That Aren't Grumpy
djbhdqrzkr4 March 2023
Don't listen to the old grumps complaining that it wasn't made for them because it doesn't appeal to people that read a comic from 1978. This is a fun, light show with animation that pops and has a great style. My 8-year-old daughter enjoys it. Some of the references go over her head (i.e. Internet trolls, social media) but when it's on she's pretty enamored with it and I find myself enjoying too.

I've seen some people complaining its not deep and that there's not much character development and while that is true can't help find that rich coming from a generation whose cartoons were thirty minute toy commercials.

Anyways, I love the narration that feels like a throwback to Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons (how's that for old). I like the family dynamic and you can never go wrong with Alfre Woodard. If you got kids check it out and watch it with them, you might find yourself having fun with it too.

Might be Disney's best superhero show ever
ginormoose15 February 2023
Moon Girl is stylish, inspirational, and a delight to watch. The titular character has a supportive family (which she is also very supportive of!), a keen intellect, and a tendency to get into and sometimes cause trouble. Devil the dinosaur, her partner in fighting crime, is adorable and has a puppy-like vibe, giving his name irony.

I've seen most of the first six episodes, and it's presented as a "lesson of the day" format, but without a great deal of preachiness (again, irony with the title here). The lessons flow well into the plot and are even incorporated into the battles. Battles against villains (or would-be villains come friends) includes stylish music, including some show-stoppers by popular artists that tie in well to the theme of the episode. The art pops like crazy in these scenes, and people are gonna compare it to Into the Spider-Verse. Yeah, it's lit like that.

That said, while I love the style, format, and lessons of the show, I think it struggles to stay grounded (pun intended). It has already somewhat run into the trap of "protagonist learns lessons and forgets them when the plot calls for it", and I expect the trend will continue. Having great standalone episodes is great, but we've already seen Disney shows that can have both great standalone episodes and overall consistency with Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy's Law. These shows grew funnier over time, with an immense amount of layered humor, several interweaving plots, and beloved characters.

Like the titular character, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has a ton of potential and has lots of style, but could really use a more cohesive direction.

Really cute show
capdeelite6130 March 2023
Some music scenes reminded me of the Jackson Five cartoons. Yes, I'm an old(er) viewer. But I still love animation/cartoons. I have managed to watch about 6 episodes so far. The animation is top notch. I love the relationship of Lunella/Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. The Casey character is one of my favorites to come along in a long time. The parents and grandparents are really cool and up-to-date. I hadn't heard of the comic and found the show while flipping through channels one afternoon. The music is great and very up-to-date sounding. I'm hoping the show is able to attract a loyal following. It's a really cute show.

A Feel Good Show!
bjjnpzj17 March 2023
As an adult the level of representation speaks to my inner child! I love the music especially the theme song! The diversity of LES and the issues that surface that moon girl and D face. I love the voice actors!! They do such an amazing job. I can't wait to have a kid so they can watch this show one day. I love the character development and how each voice actor represents the culture of the character. I love the community and how they come together in the show. I mean it's so beautifully written with such intention it's very clear. It's such a modern cartoon with a classic touch. A Black Family that owns a skating rink that loves their neighbors and their neighbors love them!! It doesn't get any better than that.

Good for all ages
willries99318 September 2023
This is one of those situations as a 30 year old I'm jealous of kids, we might have had Proud Family and maybe Danny Phantom, but wow this is amazing animation and story telling: I'm not the target demo for this but I am eternally grateful for this series: even if you're just a music fan you have to check this out because Raphael Saadiq supervising the music is literally a dream come true for why audiophiles out there. Even the commercial break transitions are pristine. If you're into animation this is incredible. If you're a kid that like good stories this is better than even old school Batman and the Justice League cartoons.

Great show!
gorewhore-487433 March 2023
There's so much to appreciate- It doesn't take itself too seriously but is still watchable by adults/teens Lunella is adorable and has a great dynamic with Casey Lunella's family is supportive, loving, and in general breaks every overdone edgy trope She also roller skates which isn't really a pro for everyone but it definitely is for me!

It handles hard to execute properly themes well Casey is great and I love that her femininity is never demonized The art style is really fun and distinct The beyonder is camp in all the best ways.

Good songs!

Overall it's just really fun and fluffy and has quickly become a comfort show

The only real cons are- The whole weekly lesson format, It's not horrible but it definitely breaks immersion sometimes.

Some villains fall flat and are unremarkable, again this isn't horrible for me because what I love the most is the main/ secondary cast but it would understandably be a deal breaker for some.

Very good for being made on modern Disney
angelda-566766 March 2023
I thought this show was going to be a trash show by 'modern' Disney and even if they are moments where they have a cross line moments the show is still entertaining and good. I still can't promised this show is the best thing you could see in this platform but still is something you can spend a good time seeing.

Btw the animation and voice were very interesting giving comic sensations as the which is not something very common on this company but is very amazing how they manage to do many episodes with this type of animation.

So I'll give this a 6/10 so even if its not the best thing disney has made its the best that you can get in this company as is still damaged.

Incredible!
komalsharma-9758514 February 2023
A thoughtful and vibrant depiction of the smartest super-genius in the Marvel universe and her world in the LES. From the title track, to the overall colors/aesthetics, to capturing the essence of her relationships with family and friends, and dealing with the relatable problems that most kids do face - Moon Girl is the kind of show I would've loved to see growing up. It's literally the first show where I've seen the creators ensure their characters pronounce every diverse name correctly- which may not seem like a big deal, but it is.

The soundtrack completely takes this show to another level. I recently downloaded the album from Spotify, and I can't wait to see how they use these tracks and incorporate them in the show.

It's a balanced mix of culture, vibrancy, music, and lightheartedness. Can't wait for the rest of the episodes!

Great
orioncharwood-3371614 June 2023
A very well made show overflowing with style even though it may be lacking slightly in character development and substance it more than makes up for that with eye popping animation reminiscent of into the spider verse, and overall well written characters. Not everything needs to be insanely complex to be enjoyable this show knows exactly what is a fun action packed romp with interesting characters and a heartfelt story, with messages about family friendship and teamwork while not being overly preachy like a lot of kids shows fall habbit to. I recommend it wholeheartedly and have no doubt the second season will build of the great stuff set up this season, I for one can't wait.

12U only!
hemisphere65-116 February 2023
I watched this as a Marvel fan, but it is clearly written and produced for children. That's not a shot, it's simply the truth.

The animation is colorful and flashy, with plenty of symbols and thought bubbles to emphasize the ideas being sent out.

Everything moves at a traditionally rapid-fire cartoon pace, which is fine when the target audience has a short attention span.

I have great memories of Moon-Boy and Devil Dinosaur from the comics of my youth, but I was open to a modern reworking of that dynamic. The problem for me is the awful music and lack of character development in the episodes. Obviously, neither of these things will be issues for young fans, but I find the show to be difficult to watch.

Good show especially last 2 episodes
gehriquentin20 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So first of all I read the most of the moongirl comics before watching the tv cartoon and love it especially Devil Dino, he is so cute and I love his relationship with Lunella.

I really loved the fact that they gave her another human friend cause she did not really have any in the comics. Same for the parents they are really more goofy because in the comics they know she is moongirl and they are scare for her but in the cartoon they don't know.

So the most of the episodes are filler since it's primary for kids but at least every episode have a moral in it and I think it's cold for kids.

I really loved the last episodes with the big revelation and the end is a little bit sad but we all know that there will be a season 2 and everything will be resolved and everyone will be happy !

I highly recommend it for the entire family.

Truly one of the best Disney Shows
princessglitterpuppy1 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
10/10 right off the bat. This show's plot is well thought out, the animation is flat-out AMAZING and I love how the main character is a role-model we can all look up too. The show is about 13-year old Lunella who's a superhero known as Moon Girl along with her sidekick Devil Dinosaur and her friend Casey as they fight villains threatening the city. Everything in the show is just so vibrant, the battle music is also amazing and we have an inspirational black-female lead. Need I say more? This show is the BEST and I DEFINITELY recommend watching it! (Also the cliffhanger at the end is also good)

One of the best Disney Channel shows ever
ouwu-9323122 July 2023
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is one of the best Disney cartoons HANDS DOWN. It's a show that has things for everyone to enjoy. Comic reader or not. Nobody could truly hate this show. First off, the animation is absolutely AMAZING. The character designs are cool and the fight scenes and music videos are vibrant, creative, and colorful. It feels like I'm watching an animated comic book and it reminds me of the spiderverse movies. The animation is done by the same studio behind Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Lego Monkie Kid, Flying Bark Studios, which explains why it's so good!

The characters are well-written and the representation that this show brings is very important. The music is good. The show is also extremely funny, and isn't afraid to get serious and emotional. The voice actors are talented and are perfect for the characters.

Cultural Phenomenon!
rachelrocket2 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I don't remember the last time I saw a superhero show that actually represented black culture and an empowered way since static shock. It definitely deserves more attention, it's a breath of fresh air concerning animation, storytelling, superhero genre as a whole. Here we have the show that it's not afraid to talk about like issues like self-love, our hair, music (which btw, the music in this show is amazing!), and more.

This show does a great job at balancing the action with the slice of life aspect, something I haven't seen done in this way since Nickelodeon's "Danny Phantom". There's something in this show for all ages (it can go from super silly to dramatic but also handle serious topics like panic attacks and even PTSD) and I love the representation it gives to the black community. It's refreshing to see a teenage nerd superhero! Something as a black female of color I did not see! Bravo Disney! Please don't cancel this one!

I think they should do comic books of the show that would be more interesting for people the around the world wants to get the comic books and continue the show on Disney channel and Disney plus. I am so excited for the show and I also find it more excitement for the kids and adults. I have to say is that this show is totally awesome, cool and funny.

Forgettable Neighborhood Super-Zero -.-
a34trgv119 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is Marvel's latest comic IP to be given the animated treatment from Disney. Having not heard of these characters before, it's an unfortunate crime that this show did NOT do a good job introducing them. From the terrible writing to the very flat characters, this show fails to impress me as a non-fan of the source material.

Based on the comic by Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder, and Natacha Bustos with Devil Dinosaur created by the late great Jack Kirby, the show was developed by Steve Loter,Jeffrey M. Howard and Kate Kondell with acclaimed actor Laurence Fishburne serving as executive producer. The show follows a young child prodigy named Lunela Lafayette and her dinosaur companion named Devil as they fight crime in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This is a unique premise and it starts of decently with the first episode having a couple chuckles, but ultimately this show falls apart at the execution. The writing in this show is abysmal with long and drawn out scenes constantly telling characters' backstory and events in the story rather than showing them. The show also have very predictable plotlines with no distinct variations to make them stand out. The Borough Bully plays out exactly how you think it's gonna play out, Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow has the same message you've heard a thousand and one times before, and Check Yourself was so easy to figure out it wasn't even funny. The show also has a very formulaic structure when it comss to the action. Moon Girl and Devil struggle with battling the enemy, the figure out the lesson the audience already figure out by the start of the episode, Moon Girl plays a song the spells out the lesson, and beats the bad guy. Rinse, lather, repeat! The songs themselves aren't terrible, but they're just really forgettable with lyrics that rehash the lesson, basic beats and adequate at best delivery. Lastly, this show just isn't really funny as most of the jokes are just predictable word play, tiring slapstick and groan worthy cartoony expressions. A show about a smart girl and a dinosaur should be fun to sit through, but this was about as fun as sitting on an uncomfortable chair for 8 hours straight.

The characters should be well rounded and fun, but instead they're underdeveloped and boring. Starting with our leading lady, Lunella is a smart girl who lack social skills...and that's it. That's her character. She's knowledgeable in just about all things science but not in acting like a basic human being. She's not relatable or funny; she's just a generic kid with a high IQ. Casey is, thankfully, not a spoiled brat as I thought she would be in this show. Unfortunately, she's nothing more than a parrot of Lunella. Devil's less of a ferocious dinosaur and more of an aggressive but friendly 20 ft dog, which is pretty disappointing when he's, you know? A DINOSAUR! Lunella's family isn't anything to right home about as they mostly fill in their respected archetypes. The Mom is supportive, the Dad is a bumbling idiot, the Grandma is wise and the Grandpa is cool. Lunella's Grandma does remind me of my late grandmother for her wisdom and kindness, so it's not all bad.

Then there's Lunella's villains who are all varying degrees of generic, dull and stupid. Aftershock is the evil villains who feeds on electricity, the Troll from under the bridge is a troll who lives under the bridge, Gravitas has a very weak motivation to go after Lunella, LOS-307 is a computer gone mad due to over heating and Maine is just a bitter pile of Lunella's hair. None of them are remotely entertaining or intimidating. They're all just very dull, forgettable villains that wouldn't even be fit to be enemies of Spider-Man.

The voice acting is actually not bad, which is saying a lot considering they didn't have a lot to work with. Diamond White sounded really good as Lunella, making her sound smart, funny and sassy. Fred Tatasciore did great work as Devil, making his grunts and growls sound very authentic yet understandable to what he's saying. Alfre Woodard truly shines as Lunella's grandmother, making her sound so wise and caring. Libe Barer sounded great as Casey, making her sound bubbly and having great chemistry with Lunella. Sasheer Zamata and Jermaine Fowler did really good work as Lunella's parents, with Gary Anthony Williams sounding like he's having a ball as her grandfather. Laurence Fishburne did a really good job making the Backstory Man sound enthusiastic and chipper. Allison Brie did a really good job voicing Aftershock, making her sound like she loved doing what she did. Sam Riegel did a fantastic job bringing out the best of the voice actors for this show and deserves a lot of credit for his contributions as a voice director.

The animation is also really good as it's a happy collaboration between Disney Television Animation, Cinema Gypsy Productions, Flying Bark Productions, and Marvel Animation. The show is designed to resemble graffiti art work and it looks gorgeous. The characters have unique designs to them with colored highlights on their hair, styles clothes and different head shapes. The character animation is stiff looking, but unlike a lesser show like El Deafo or Apple & Onion, this is an intentional stylisting choice to make it feel like a moving comic book. This also enhances the action scenes with radiant colors, smooth movements and dazzling effects. This show is just another great example of how we're living in a golden age of stylized animation.

As cool as it is to see a new Marvel IP get it's own show, this was NOT even close to cool. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is a forgettable cartoon with terrible writing, forgettable songs, boring characters and lackluster comedy. Sure the animation and voice acting is really good, but ultimately this show just isn't worth sitting through just for those aspects. If you want a cartoon about a young girl fighting crime, just watch WordGirl. Sure, the animation isn't as flashy as this, but you're guaranteed much better quality in the writing and characters than this forgettable cartoon -.-

Weird
fv-2281113 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, I watched the First Episode on The Disney Channel YouTube Channel (The Outro Creeper me out a bit Q_Q) and I thought to Share My Review of it.

The Animation is Awesome but Werid and the Same time. Moon Girl is a Nerd like Lisa From The Simpsons. Devil Dinosaur is just a Pet for Her. AfterShock Stole The Spotlight from Electro From The Spider Man Series and Remade him into a Terrible Villainess (A Girl Super Villain) and it is so dumb. She Causes Every blackout in America (Joke) and is very dumb and sassy. Electro (Stan Lee's Super Villian) is Awesome and Aftershock, God No.

That's my review. If Everyone who is Reading this then please Watch it on The Diseny Channel YouTube Channel (Slow down the Outro on 44:33) and Tell me What u think of it.
