A Beautiful Life Affirming Tale
becca-selbyheard22 August 2018
The most beautiful thing about this film is that it is not a film... it is the most incredible capsulation of a persons life. To treat it simply as a film is to disregard the astonishing power of its content. Following the life of Heiko, an incredibly strong man who has more virility than anyone I have ever met or seen on screen, within the deterioration of his life. Though for me to say deterioration is completely inaccurate as the film does nothing but reaffirm the beauty of life. This incredibly tender second feature from burgeoning documentary filmmaker Veronica Kaserer solidifies her stylistic stamp and proves that she has far to grow within the realm of filmmaking. It was a privilege to watch this at the Berlinale, there was not a single dry eye in the house but they were not all tears of sadness. I know that for the first time I found myself crying tears of relief knowing that those I believed to have previously suffered in pain were able to find themselves and that through me their memories truly live on.

An incredible film and one not to be missed.
