Toronto Film Festival gala presentation “Thank You for Coming” is that rarity – a Bollywood sex comedy that also serves as a patriarch-bashing women empowerment tale.
Bhumi Pednekar stars as Kanika Kapoor, a Delhi food blogger and serial monogamist, who has spent her adult life seeking a satisfying love match, both emotionally and physically, but has never had an orgasm. The morning after her engagement to a dull suitor, she wakes up satisfied, but can’t remember who’s responsible.
The film is written by two women, Radhika Anand (“Broken But Beautiful”) and stand up comic Prashasti Singh and directed by a man, Karan Boolani, making his feature directing debut. Boolani previously directed series “24: India” for Viacom18’s Colors channel and Netflix’s “Selection Day.”

When Anil Kapoor was offered a lead role in the Hindi adaptation of UK drama series The Night Manager, his first thought was how he could apply what he’d learned while making the Indian version of U.S. crime drama 24.
Kapoor plays the role of an international arms dealer, played by Hugh Laurie in the original English-language series, based on the John le Carre novel, while Aditya Roy Kapur has been cast as the solider turned hotel night manager infiltrating his circle, played by Tom Hiddleston in the original show.
After being approached by Disney+ Hotstar content chief Gaurav Banerjee to play the role, he started watching the English series, which had been broadcast by BBC and AMC in 2016 and streamed by Amazon Prime Video in India. “I was impressed by the original, but we had some very strong writers and talent attached to the remake from an early stage,...

Netflix has set a mid-year release date for “Thar,” a revenge thriller film starring and produced by Anil Kapoor.
Marking the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Raj Singh Chaudhary, the 1980s-set film follows the story of a man who moves to a big town to seek a job and to avenge his past.
Alongside Kapoor, the film also stars Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Satish Kaushik.
The screenplay is credited to Chaudhury, with dialog by Chaudhary and Anurag Kashyap. Cinematography is by Shreya Dev Dube and music direction by Ajay Jayanthi.
“The genre itself – a noir thriller set in Rajasthan that pays tribute to the genre of the classic Western is a first for Indian cinema and audiences. ‘Thar’ is a playground where the dynamism of new blood meets the experience of industry stalwarts, both on and off screen,” said Kapoor, who produced through his Anil Kapoor Film Company Network.

Actor Rajesh Tailang, who has made his mark on the digital platform by being a part of successful web series including "Selection Day", "Delhi Crime" and "Mirzapur", feels that an actor can't plan the way his or her career will shape up, but says choices determine its path.
Asked if he has been getting good offers after the success of "Delhi Crime" and "Selection Day", Rajesh said: "Definitely... I am getting good roles than what I used to get in the past, but I think you can't plan the journey of your career. I think your choices are one of the major factors in the field of acting.
"You try to plan it but you can't predict which project will be appreciated by the audience and which will not. So, I try to do my work passionately and efficiently with a lot of honesty."

Four Indian film directors, Mahesh Manjrekar, Pradeep Sarkar, Priyadarshan and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, who have each won the National Award, have joined forces to shoot “Invisible Masks.” The adaptation of four short stories, the film tackles homosexuality, mental illness, people leading double lives, and other hot button social issues in India.
The film is a portmanteau, without connecting or recurring elements, and is currently in advanced post-production. Each of the directors developed and produced their own section independently.
The overall film is produced and financed by Venus Worldwide Entertainment, and partly-financed by Armaan Ventures. A major Ott platform is expected to give the completed work a release in India and elsewhere, without recourse to festival or theatrical outings. Suchhanda Chatterjee is set as the co-producer.
Roy Chowdhury, who previously directed “Pink” directs a section about mental illness “The story of this short film is, I feel, very relevant to our present times,...

Web SeriesThe year turned out to be one of big wonders on the small screen -- all thanks to the proliferation of over-the-top or Ott platforms in India.IANSWhat's the common thread between Sacred Games, Mirzapur, Breathe, Inside Edge and Ghoul? They are big names and were big hits. But not on the big screen. The year turned out to be one of big wonders on the small screen -- all thanks to the proliferation of over-the-top or Ott platforms in India. It was in 2017 that Ott platforms, which provide video content over the Internet, made their presence felt in the Indian market. This year, its world expanded with a robust roster of content. "Content emerged as the undisputed king, not just in a proverbial sense, but even in terms of what clicked with the audience.
