Not Bad But Not Good Neither Warning: Spoilers
A little sleepy southern town that was having most its residents selling their property for a railroad buy out. A woman was killed, incidentally, because a man could not win her love merely because the woman was a lesbian. That was a stretch, but he was drunk at the time which make rejections worse. Mostly unknown actors, except for Tess Harper. The movie helped to pass the time during the Covid-19 "Stay in the House" orders. Not bad.

I don't think so

This movie was long and boring. I found myself checking to see if it was almost over. It did have a little twist at the end, but overall I wish I hadn't wasted my time

Holy Hell this is a bad movie ...
scrooster3 May 2021
If you failed to finger the villain (sic: really bad person) ten minutes into this flick then you are either incredibly obtuse or remarkably blind of the obvious. And from the ten-minute-mark-on it was yawn city ... a collection of gratuitous cliches so pathetically predictable as-to actually bring into question the writers/producers/directors' motives for perpetrating such an insult upon the collective intelligence of their prospective audience ... all of us suckers in the end. There should be a -1 star, or less, rating made available for this "piece of work" ... and I mean that it the most patronizing of ways. You've been warned. You're wasting valuable minutes of your life should you choose to watch this monstrosity henceforth.

A great story, wasted!
sulaimanlalani26 April 2020
This could have been a good movie. The story is intriguing and exciting. However, a bad script, bad casting (except Aasha Davis to some extent) and lousing direction and editing killed the plot!

A good opportunity, wasted!

A BET Lifetime equivalent

Well it's pretty obvious that the lead actress had all her family and friends give the 10 star reviews. This was the only thing to watch after spending 15 minutes on the "Guide" channel...shoulda stayed there....

If the continued slow motion doesn't get you, the rest will
jodyjoneskessler29 September 2022
I have to agree with many of the reviews listed. This is a horrible flick. If you are just looking for something to play in the background as you do literally ANYTHING ELSE, it is fantastic. The plot does not thicken and the acting is worse. If that doesn't deterrer you, then the slow motion scenes should. They made me motion sick. There are so many other ways for directors to show suspense like a descent script, having a good actress or actors, music. Honestly, I am not sure why I even gave this 2 stars. I couldn't watch past the first 30 minutes. I tried, I got sick. Hopefully, if you decide to forgo all of the warnings and watch this .. umm.... train wreck, you will take a motion sickness pill first!

Intense and captivating!
samoananimal5 August 2021
I found this movie to have a smooth introduction to the town and backstory leading into the pretense of the saga. It built up nicely with different events and sequences that captivated with anticipation to see what comes next (so many to detail). Although the cinematography was a bit dark it led nicely to the atmosphere of the film as well. Several scenes were also gripping with the emotional intensity as you can feel the anger, frustration, sorrow etc. Portrayed (also too many to elaborate). I have and will continue to recommend this film and must give major props to Aasha Davis for a role that must have been challenging for her but she did it incredibly!

Riveting "Bayou noir"
jzussman30 April 2020
The Long Shadow is an atmospheric whodunit set in Louisiana's Bayou country, starring the riveting Aasha Davis as a police officer investigating a murder in a small town where everyone knows everyone else and several have a motive. Some nice twists and red herrings. You can tell from the opening tracking shot that there are sure hands both behind and in front of the camera. A winner.

Great Southern Gothic Picture

Amazing directing and performances, especially lead Aasha Davis. The film really nails small-town Louisiana. Dark and gripping to the end.

A fictional Louisiana crime drama
samclaitor4 May 2020
The Long Shadow is a thrilling fictional look into a story about small town politics in South Louisiana. It reminds the viewer that everyone has a secret, and dances past the old adage "let sleeping dogs lie". If you're looking for a solid who-done-it consider checking out this feature by Daniel Lafrentz.

If you like True Detectives, Mind Hunter, or The Night Of then The Long Shadow could be a good fit.

This isn't an action thriller, it's a slow moving story about secrets.

Warning: Spoilers
I got into this movie from the start. Maybe it has so low a rating because the story involves a main character and her secret relationship with another woman. I like the pace because this isn't a Marvel movie. The music, lighting, locations all mimic the drowsy feel of the pace in a small Louisiana town. And, it's a portrait of the town, the people and their secrets. Very satisfying character piece. Don't be put off by the low score. I honestly think there's some bias because of the relationship between two women.

A great whodunnit!
netasmit2 July 2021
Who doesn't love a good murder mystery, on a rainy day? The Long Shadow (2019) is a great film to add to that genre.

Every actor in this movie understood the assignment. Their ability to convey precise emotion even during scenes with minimal conversation and dialogue was a treat to see.

Aasha Davis successfully carries the film as the lead actor. The vulnerability and strength she brings to her role, makes you root for her character (Bernadette Leblanc). I have lifetime season tickets, to whatever she does from here on out. Great talent!
