Bleach is a member of the Big Three club of Shonen anime, and deservedly so. However, its protagonist, Ichigo, is nowhere near the most liked Shonen hero. Tite Kubo created a boy-next-door character who was thrust into responsibilities too big for him.
Luffy and Naruto, on the other hand, have huge individual fanbases. But why are things so different for Ichigo despite being in the same genre? The truth might lie in a 2023 interview with Tite Kubo.
Tite Kubo Admits His Thoughts About Ichigo Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach | Crunchyroll
In an interview with Viz Media, Tite Kubo talked about who he considers to be his heroes. He mentions GeGeGe no Kitaro and Saint Seiya as his favorite, but they are not heroes in that sense.
What is a hero? I’ve never thought of Ichigo as a hero, either. [lol]

Have you ever heard a song in a movie or TV show that’s so good that it inspires your muses? I’m one of those people who listens to music when she writes, and many of those songs come from a movie or TV show that slips in a tune that I have to listen to on repeat. A recent gem on the list is from the second season of Invincible from singer-songwriter d4vd. “Feel It” is peak writing fuel for my muses, so I was thrilled to learn that d4vd is also someone who’s inspired by the media around him. “I wrote songs like ‘Here With Me’ after watching the Disney movie Up ,” he said in our interview, and boy, does that add a Lot of context to that song. d4vd is also a huge anime fan, as seen when watching his videos. When the Hell’s Paradise anime dropped in April 2023, no one knew that the anime was going to become one of the Dark Trio anime series, along with the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. Yuji Kaku, the creator of the series, was actually one of the editors for Chainsaw Man, and now his own series is being compared to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s magnum opus.
Hell’s Paradise
While the manga series had decent popularity, the main fame that Hell’s Paradise earned was after the release of the first season of the anime last year. The series was produced by Mappa and Twin Engine. But Kaku did not want to contribute to the anime series. In fact, the director of Hell’s Paradise, Kaori Makita, revealed this information himself.

In April 2024, Naoya Matsumoto’s Kaiju No. 8 anime series hit the screens, and for the first time in years, fans believed that they might have found something unique. The series was quite different from a basic Shonen series as it did not follow the stereotypical anime tropes and introduced a new angle with the help of its protagonist, Kafka Hibino.
Kafka Hibino – Kaiju No. 8
Kafka defied every rule that is followed by a main character in a Shonen series, and this was a good thing as it made fans believe that Kaiju No. 8 might be on to something. However, as the story progressed, it went the same route as every other Shonen anime series, and Kafka’s unique traits went to waste.
When it became noticeable in the series, fans pointed it out and shared their opinions about the wasted potential of Kafka Hibino and how one of...

When Kaiju No. 8 debuted in April 2024, fans had a lot of expectations from the series, as the series was already successful in the manga industry. Eventually, the anime series lived up to its expectations and became one of the best action anime series of the current year. However, Kaiju No. 8 brought with it a new twist, which is not often seen in the anime world.
Kafka – Kaiju No. 8
The twist was introduced through the protagonist of the series, Kafka Hibino. Kafka was a cleaner for Monster Sweeper Inc., but he always wanted to join the Defense Force to eradicate the Kaiju, or “monsters,” that have infested the world and are wreaking havoc. But later on, he himself becomes a Kaiju, and the story becomes more and more interesting.
The twist that Kafka brought with him was that he defied the physical stereotypes of the Shonen main character.

Goku might be one of the strongest Shonen protagonists, with enough power to blow up planets, but he is majorly lacking in another walk of life. While he is a strong and reliable fighter in Dragon Ball, his skills as a parent and husband are doubtful.
Goku’s Saiyan rival from the same franchise is much better at parenting than he is. Akira Toriyama always nerfs Vegeta in battles, but he is a loving husband to Bulma and a stellar father to Trunks and Bulla.
As it turns out, Goku’s shocking ignorance of his children stems from his Saiyan identity.

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series has been popular on the basic formula of featuring epic fights, lots of training, a gripping story, and some fan theories, that will get you hooked on the show. With rich storytelling and complex characters, featuring Saiyans and different life forms, often leading to interesting fan theories.
Broly in Dragon Ball Super: Broly
Toriyama-Sensei has given much thought to the creation of each of his characters, or else people would not have been addicted to the show for 38 long years. One of the mythic fan speculations of the show is the Genetic Mutation Theory revolves around the Saiyans. Ironically, this theory revolves not around Gohan but a new character, who made his way into the Dragon Ball canon in 2018. If the theory turns out to be true, then, he would surpass Kakarot and The Prince of All Saiyans with ease.

Often, the special ingredient behind a successful villain is a tera-jerker backstory. You can see it in My Hero Academia (Shigaraki), Naruto (Itachi Uchiha), and many other hit anime. Yet, Tite Kubo managed to create one of the biggest anime villains with absolutely no backstory.
Aizen, the slimy (and handsome) antagonist of Bleach, has conquered innumerable hearts. But how? Tite Kubo never gave him a proper backstory. No one knows why he has an evil mentality. Worst of all! You can’t even tell if you should sympathize with him or not. Turns out Kubo never gave much of an explanation for his intentions on purpose.

Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is one of the most popular Shonen Series that features a number of iconic female characters, such as Kurenai, Mei Tarumi, Ino Yamanaka, Konan, and many more. However, two characters stand out, particularly in the series, it is none other than Hinata Hyuga and Sakura Haruno.

While fans of the series immensely love the former character for her looks and attributes and how she treats our protagonist, they hate the latter for the same. The hate for Tsunade Senju’s apprentice is the most extreme of all anime characters. It looks like Kishimoto-san has chosen his favorite female character out of the two, as he prefers the Byakugan princess over a strange reason that the medical ninja can not change.

Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, has blessed the anime and manga communities with his works. His creations like Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump have opened the realm of manga to a global audience that has now fallen in love with the anime and manga industry, making it one of the biggest entertainment artworks of all time.
The Dragon Ball universe
However, Toriyama revealed in an interview that he did not plan to send the drafts of his magnum opus, Dragon Ball, to Weekly Shonen Jump. Rather, he wanted to send it to Weekly Shonen Magazine at first but, ultimately, was forced to get his work published in Weekly Shonen Jump. Toriyama’s first manga, Dr. Slump, was already a big deal in Weekly Shonen Magazine at the time.

One Piece has always been one of the most popular anime. For the last 25 years, Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus has been ruling over the Shonen genre. Monkey D. Luffy’s journey to become the King of Pirates has taken him through several perilous journeys and the fans have always been a part of it. Everyone knows Luffy as the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika user and the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Due to the mangaka’s habit of creating mysteries, fans often make their own theories. But recently, Eiichiro Oda revealed the original design of Monkey D. Luffy and the fans were not ready for it. Like most creators, Oda sensei had initially thought of different designs for Luffy. When the initial design was published online, fans quickly noticed a major difference between the two versions.

Yoshihiro Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho is still considered to be one of the greatest shonen anime and manga series of all time. The anime series is something that many of us have grown up watching and it can be put into the same league as Sailor Moon and Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series. The Shonen series’ immense recognition and fan following, just demonstrates how influential and incredible the series was.
A still from Yu Yu Hakusho
Despite Togashi-san’s manga series being so incredibly popular, the story came to an end. Generally, the sagas come to an end only to return with more tropes, characters, and new storylines. However, that was not the case here as Yoshihiro Togashi decided it was time to wrap up his magnum opus due to a selfish agenda, breaking the hearts of the fans in the process.

Soulsborne games are notorious for being difficult; however, the amount of love and dedication that goes into making them from Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team at FromSoftware is completely unparalleled in the gaming industry. Masterpieces like Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Bloodborne have catapulted the studio into the mainstream, and for good reason.
With breathtaking worlds, stories, and weaponry, the inspirations behind such works require an equal amount of appreciation. Eiichiro Oda has portrayed almost every feeling there is in his One Piece story. Be it fear, excitement, sadness, happiness, or anger, the One Piece storyline has covered it all. However, there is one feeling that Oda doesn’t want to draw in his magnum opus. And that is the feeling of romance.
Strawhat Pirates in One Piece
Oda has strict rules regarding romance in his manga and he may never change those. However, this doesn’t mean that he has not introduced the emotion of love in the series. Characters like Senor Pink, Sanji, Pudding, Hancock, and many more have expressed the feeling of love.
Even the doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates, Tony Tony Chopper was assumed by fans to have fallen in love when Oda released Chapter 900. When A fan asked Oda about Chopper’s love interest, and whether he would fall in love ever, Oda talked...

But one character who often steals the spotlight is Dracule Mihawk, widely regarded as the greatest swordsman in the entire One Piece universe. This ultra-powerful figure commands deep respect and admiration from swordsmen everywhere.

"Suicide Squad Isekai," premiering this July, bridges the worlds of DC Comics and anime. "Isekai" is a popular anime genre; meaning "another world" in Japanese, Isekai anime follows an everyman lead being transported to a magical realm, "Alice in Wonderland" style. This time, the "everyman" leads are Harley Quinn (played by Anna Nagase instead of Margot Robbie), Deadshot, Peacemaker, King Shark, and Clayface.
