The stupidity is what makes it great
sydneygreenamyer12 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The show is stupid at times but hilarious. I do want to say they disrespected Joan of Arc because they didn't really even talk about how she fought in a war!!! They just talked about how she cut her hair and wore boy's clothes! Everything else is great.

My five year old loves it, but it could be improved
sabricci6 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The show is very entertaining and has been a great way to introduce many historical names and basic facts to my 5-year old boy. I found the Louis Armstrong/Marie Antoinette episode especially creative and funny. I disagree with others on the acting- I think they are excellent, esp considering how young they are. Nonetheless, I think the show could do a better job of including the actual achievements of these famous people; some of the episodes are trite. I agree with others who stated that there seems to be an especially strong agenda to make the "white male" look bad. The entire profile of Marco Polo was about his exaggeration and lying. There is much more to Marco Polo than that. Ben Franklin was so incredible and the show made him look silly. Ditto on Isaac Newton. I suggest that for the next season, the team considers having a test audience of kids, and they can ask them after what they got out of it- "who was ?" to see if there were any factual takeaways. Regardless though, compared to whatever else is on TV, I'll take this any day!

Pizza vs Spinach
bobprods24 May 2018
My kids love this show. It's hilarious (for adults too) and full of nuggets of information. Is it a purely educational play? No. If you're looking for a boring historical drama (spinach), this is not for you. It is a comedy.....and it's irreverent....and the kids eat it up. They still walk away with new bits knowledge, but served up in a way that they love (pizza) and gets them excited and interested to go explore more on their own.

Took more than an episode to win me, but it won me big!
hayleycranfield23 May 2018
My initial response to this series was that I kind of hated it. However, my almost ten-year-old son positively loved it, so I started paying closer attention to it. I'd say it's geared toward tweens and older. After giving it a fair chance, I discovered the writing is actually quite intelligent, and the humor causes my son to watch them over and over... and over. In just days, he's started weaving information about Marie Curie, Queen Elizabeth I, and others into conversation and speaking intelligently about them. These are people of which he previously knew little or nothing. This show won't be for everyone because of its quirky nature, but I personally hope they continue for many seasons.

Ok but not as good as Horrible Histories!

It's ok but not a patch on Horrible Histories! My kids will watch it but it's not as engaging as HH by a long shot!

Great comedy, fun facts, but HEAVY AGENDA
allplatt31 May 2018
I enjoy the puns and clever jokes. I appreciate the Tidbits character providing lots of little facts that I didn't know. But man, the Benjamin Franklin and Gandhi episode seemed to have a heavy political statement about how stupid the founding fathers of the US were and how wise and perfect Gandhi was. The episode with Isaac Newton and Amelia Earhart was one of the most sexist things I have seen against men. Can you imagine if a man suddenly stopped a female narrator and said "I will not have some faceless woman narrate my life, let me get an awesome modern man to do it instead"? Well, that's what Amelia Earhart does to the male narrator. They continue to put Amelia on a pedestal while making Isaac Newton look like the most selfish person who ever lived. I've been watching this with my son and I'm concerned that he might get a message that his gender is lesser to females even though he's getting a fun history lesson.

If you want to learn something useful, don't watch this show.
kyleballingalternate2 November 2018
The aim of this show is to be funny and irreverent. There is little to no educational value to this program. After watching for a while, my kids are just confused about who the historical figures are and why they are significant. People should be respected for their historical achievements, however great people are reflected as idiots who got lucky. Not a good influence.

My boys (ages 8 & 12) LOVE this show! They have watched each episode multiple times and have enjoyed history more than they ever have before. Super fun approach to learning about history and human rights! Can't wait for more seasons!

Love the show but diversity needs to be represented.

Warning: Spoilers
The title says majority of my point. The actual scipt and character creation is phenomenal but the main cast is too small. Like Frida Kahlo is a Mexican female yet is played by a aisan female. There are other dervere problems but I really do enjoy the comedic history.

What's the point?
ritzyix3 August 2018
My son was excited to find these shows because he loves the Who Was books. Unfortunately, the show is terrible. Very little in the way of education and teaching about the historical figures. For example, the episode with Julius Caesar basically included no information about him at all. It's just a vehicle for bad acting and historically inaccurate information. Don't recommend at all.

Hilarious for kids and adults but...
rbarton-0108912 March 2021
Hilarious for kids and adults but...I wish there was more of a mix of female and male historical figures. Glad they feature some females but there could be more. For example, why is George Washington Carver featured from the Civil War era but not Harriet Tubman?! Overall really well done, super talented young actors and sharp humor for both adults and children alike. My eight-year-old daughter and I always have a lot of laugh out loud moments.

Imagine Joan of Arc Twerking?
matthewjfuchs10 February 2020
So so disappointing. All the little skits are so cringe and inaccurate. The dancing and music uuuugghhhh. I was hoping to have my son learn a little more about Einstein but instead we watched him dance. Why? I wish they would have stuck with the integrity of the books. Horrible.

Funny and informative. Inspired my kids research some of the historical characters.
lmoralesart29 May 2018
Exactly what age will depend on your child and what they have been exposed to. There is nothing gory, and the analogy to SNL for kids is fairly accurate. But there is an appropriate age for each child to cover, albeit lightly so, topics such as pillaging and inequality. The show made my 10 and 11 year old children laugh and left them wanting to know more about some of the historical figures. They looked up a few facts to see if they were really true. I would have liked to see the show place the featured historic figures on a timeline at the end, since they often compare and contrast figures from vastly different time periods. Overall it is a fun show to inspire learning about history.

Making famous people look stupid
ilikepinkelephants16 June 2018
The Who Was?Show, actors and actresses don't do a good job acting as famous people in history. They make them look stupid. The books are way better than the TV show.

Currently enjoying this show with my 10-year-old. Informative and funny. I think it would actually inspire kids to learn even more about the famous people depicted.

Books are great...show is not!
kgoodman-8670019 May 2018
My 7 year old loves these books. They are educational and make history easily understandable for kids. We were excited at the thought of this show. The reality was a huge disappointment! The format is kind of like SNL for kids, but not really funny. The educational component is undeveloped and leaves my daughter with more questions and misunderstandings than before!

Maybe not 10/10 but sick of anti-Netflix bias
CanonFodder8128 May 2018
It's TV-Y. It's educational. It's funny. Decent production. It's educational. Kids love it, and it's educational. Get my theme? It's funny, sets are good, characters well played, maybe one of the most original and authentic new series for family/kids.

Disrespectful
idadelanghe28 January 2019
We only got about 5 minutes into it because I couldn't believe the propaganda and the brain washing and they're trying to achieve with this show. They have Gandhi who is portrayed peaceful and intelligent and then they have Benjamin Franklin physically assaulting other writers of the Declaration of Independence. Talk about USA bashing! I don't even know if I had seen any real data or factual information besides the fact that Benjamin Franklin did sign the Declaration of Independence. How about showing some respect for some of the most notable people in history. There are innumerable tasteful ways of portraying people as real, faults and all, without being disrespectful.

Bad
logansowadski24 July 2018
Terrible Actors to say the least. They paint pictures on history people that aren't even true and it really misleads a lot of the children who'd watch this show. Very hard to be entertained as there's little conflict and the comedy used might get a chuckle the first time and when they ride that the whole episode it makes me want to cancel my Netflix Subscription. My biggest pet peev with this was they had little care for gender roles. Now I don't mind Ghandi being played by a woman. She did it decent and her playing the role didn't take anything away from the character. But when you have a tiny Asian woman playing as one of the most ruthless men in history as Ghenghis Khan it's truly hard to not only believe but take seriously. This show was a great idea that started as a very well book that Netflix wiped their a**'s with. Don't waste your time watching youabd your kids will get wrinkles from cringing so much 1/100
