The first episode of Reverie hints why this could be a short lived series. It wants to dazzle you with its VR effects but underneath the colourful sheen is a dull and predictable show.

Mara Kint is an ace hostage negotiator turned college professor. As her ex boss tells the audience, she was brilliant at her job, read people like a book but she could not save her own sister and her niece from her crazed husband.

Her former boss recruits Kint for a tech company called Onira Tech that is having problems. The company trawls social media of its users who escape the real world into a digital dream. That favourite moment from your childhood, that perfect holiday destination. Some users do not want to return from there and are stuck in a coma.

Kint's job is to enter these reveries and rescue these people who are stuck in their dreams. In the first episode is a man who has not got over the death of his wife. In the reverie world he can reunite with her, going for that perfect dinner at a hotel. In the real world he has left behind his young daughter who is without her mother and now her dad.

A bit like past shows such as Fantasy Island, it deals with the underlying issues of those people who are stuck in the fantasy. It is all neaty resolved in the hour with a hint of a conspiracy arc. I did not find it engaging enough.
