Did it really take them three years to put a series together after this pilot? I'll have to double check it.

The premise is pretty good, a mother and daughter discover that their recently decided husband/father had a secret wife and daughter, the two worlds collide.

It's a decent first episode, I didn't find it rip roaringly funny, but it has a fine cast, you just know there is potential for a few laughs to come. Rebecca Front is a comedy talent.

It was a little predictable at some points, they had to make the two families very different.

Pretty good, 6/10.

The pilot of The Other One led to a belated series, as it was apparently made in 2017. So it has taken three years for the Head of Comedy to decide whether it was funny.

It starts with the death of Cathy's (Ellie White) dad in his surprise birthday party. Cathy and her mother Tess (Rebecca Front) soon discover that he was having an affair for some years with Marilyn (Siobhan Finneran.)

He had a daughter also called Catherine (Lauren Socha) with Marilyn born just five days after Cathy.

It is a set up between two contrasting families. Cathy is middle class, engaged to Marcus (Amit Shah) who has embarrassed her over an incident at work.

Meanwhile Marilyn and Cat are working class and slightly uncouth. Marilyn chain smokes and hardly ever goes out. Cat has been busy on online dating apps.

The funniest bit was Tess, so upset over her husband's cheating that she wants to have rampant sex with strangers which includes the taxi driver bringing her home. It might have been the only genuinely funny bit.

In the pilot I was not quiet sold over a burgeoning relationship between the two Catherine's. Given the way Cathy treats Marcus, I would have thought she would give Cat short shrift.
