As if seeing him in Adrenaline wasn’t enough, Louis Mandylor is back in Crossfire, another film about an FBI agent dealing with the revenge killing of a family member. This time he plays F.B.I. Agent Mark Patson. Patson is in the news for saving several women from human traffickers.
The last time he was in the news was for taking down the Gorilla Gang. That resulted in the death of his wife in a revenge killing, something his daughter Alisha has never forgiven him for. Now however she’s coming home over school holidays and he’s determined to do whatever it takes to reconnect with her, starting with resigning from the Agency. What he doesn’t know is that somebody else is back as well. The...

Night Caller opens with visions of a murder underneath the main credits before Clementine an operator for Jade Mei’s gets a call from the man she saw in the visions before he commits the crime for real.
And that murder serves notice to viewers that this isn’t going to be a Scream or Blumhouse style mainstream horror film. There are repeated gory closeups of a large knife entering the victim’s body. A shift of camera angle to some not so explicit shots that suggest the knife is getting shoved somewhere else. And the ranting killer taking the somehow still living woman’s scalp as a souvenir.
Less than ten minutes in and writer/director...

Lockdown, not to be confused with the Kevin Nash film Lockdown and so many others, has finally been released. Why do I say finally? Because production wrapped on it back in 2017. When a film that has marketable names in the cast sits on the shelf that long it’s usually a sign that it’s really awful or so artsy nobody knows what to do with it. And this ain’t no art film.
In a Los Angeles precinct Captain Davis is interrogating Cherry a hooker turned armed robber. Elsewhere one of the cops makes the mistake of trying to pick up some cash he sees on the floor only to end up dead and relieved of his cell keys, gun,...

Like many low budget action films, there is a constant, uneasy tension between ambition and what is possible. Hustle Down is aiming to be a Michael Mann thriller, but the constraints constantly degrade the experience. Whether it is low budget cameras, direction, or uneven acting.
An almost unrecognisable Tom Sizemore (with dyed black hair and looking elderly) is running around (and gosh is it a sad sight) in a cheap shirt, avoiding cartel hitmen.
I barely recognise the wispy voice of Tom Sizemore here, nor his ghoulish countenance and I certainly don’t recognise his ripe acting. He was one of my favourite actors for a long time, and it is so sad to...
