Il Trovatore is not among my favorite operas nor is it among my favorite Verdi(prefer Rigoletto,La Traviata,Aida and Othello to it and also Macbeth for its story,if maybe not the music). I do like Met's Il Trovatore production. This production looks very ugly, except some moments in Act 2,it tries to constantly fight with the libretto, which makes it weird. As for the cast,I really enjoyed Anita Rachvelishvili as Azucena. Her singing and acting are beautiful. Lianna Haroutounian has some very good moment as Leonora. The baritone Vitaly Bilyy is decent as Count Di Luna. The worst offender was Gregory Kunde as Manrico. He starts off strong, but from Di Quella Pira onward ,his voice lost power. He also has no chemistry with Lianna Haroutounian, about decent with Anita Rachvelishvili, which is pretty bad. Overall,a very bad Il Trovatore, brought down especially by a tenor and a pretty ugly looking production.4/10.
