When preparing to film in Kizzi-Pink Simpson's room, which was standing in for Aria's, the crew had to remove a multitude of dance trophies so that Aria wouldn't appear as successful as Kizzi.
The dream scene where Venus dances for Aria in golden light was filmed entirely using natural light. The crew had to prepare as film as many takes with as little time in between as they possibly could during the short amount of time whilst the sun was setting through the windows.
The auditions were split over two days, with one for dancing and a second for acting. For their acting auditions Paige McKinlay used Tristan's speech about love from the film Stardust, and Elise Gillies re-enacted Hermione Granger's first appearance in Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, whilst Kizzi-Pink Simpson chose Gretchen Weiner's tirade about Julius Caesar from the film Mean Girls.
There is only one piece of spoken dialogue in the film, which is near the beginning as Aria's name is called by the dance tutor off screen.
All of the dancers wear bright colours except for Aria who wears black, this is to symbolize her as the 'black sheep' of the class who doesn't feel as though she fits in.
