Bringing Back The Original Scarefest
atlasmb2 June 2017
Since the original "Fear Factor" aired, many reality shows have incorporated some of the FF standards, like eating disgusting insects or scaling heights, into their challenges. As a result, some of these stunts may feel passe.

But MTV has resurrected the show, starring Ludicrous as host.

In the first round, four teams of two play "Beat the Beast" and face something creepy and crawly. After the losing team is eliminated, the remaining three teams play "Face Your Fear", where the stunts are tailored to the contestants' personal fears. Then the remaining two teams play "Final Fear".

The first episode involves hissing cockroaches, claustrophobia, and a water-related stunt that is actually scary. The winning team wins $50,000.

Not a show for everyone, but by now, everyone should know if it is for them.

Confused
browndoll8 August 2017
Ludicrous is a nice guy and cute as can be . I am a fan , just not as a host of fear factor . He talks too much and doesn't seem comfortable . Joe Rogan is much better .. We will watch because we are a fan of FF . The new stunts are great and very creative . But something is missing ..

Pretty good attempt at a reboot....but the "Celebrity" gig was a mistake
gridoon20241 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This was a more-than-decent attempt to replicate the success (it had 7 seasons!) of the original Fear Factor; technically it is not inferior, and it even retains the same dynamic style since most episodes are directed by the same man (J. Rupert Thomson) who also directed the majority of the original Fear Factor. New host Ludacris is no Joe Rogan, but he can be pretty funny at times. And the show, just like its predecessor, features some of the most badass women in reality television (there are a few weak ones, too, but they only serve as the exceptions that confirm the rule). The main negative of the show for a long while is the excessively spoilery "coming up!" segments before each commercial break, which often give away the winners of the early stunts! You must fast-forward and/or mute these promos if you do not want to get spoiled. But where things REALLY go south is when the show switches to "Celebrity" Fear Factor in its second season. When they invite musicians, that's fine. When they invite reality stars from other shows, that's tolerable. But when they invite Youtube / Instagram "stars" and try to pass them off as "celebrities", they're crossing the line; these people were not only terrible competitors, but some of them could not even form a coherent sentence. The old Fear Factor had celebrity episodes as well, but only once in a while; the basic appeal of the show is watching REGULAR people overcome their fears. I firmly believe it was this "celebrity" turn that led to the show's discontinuation. *** out of 4 as a whole, because it's still damn entertaining.

Bring back the old fear factor!
luckyhammen14 March 2018
The old fear factor is so much better. It's the definition of the title. They did challenges that actually pushed you to your limit. Not like the new one where the stunts are just about cell phones and eating mayonnaise and ice cream. Everyone's a bunch of pansies now a days and they need to bring back the old fear factor and host! The new one is garbage.h

Worst Show!
vickysummers-855393 June 2017
I used to watch the old fear factor and Ludicrous is the WORST host. He flirts with the girls and constantly says inappropriate things. Not worth my time and definitely not a good show to watch. I will not recommend this show to anyone! I hope everyone stays away from this show, it is horrible.

Joe Rogan is the Better Host for Fear Factor
itchmm1 October 2017
I like Ludicras, BUT not as a Fear Factor Host. Joe Rogan adds more excitement to the show's events :) I voted 10 for Joe Rogan as the show host. I like that ladies and gentlemen are involved as contestants. I trust that the show will not 'Kill" contestants with the challenges. It is interesting to see what contestants are willing to complete for a chance to win $50,000. I think the prizes should include all teams (maybe like $100,000.; $70,000.; and $50,000.).

Bring Joe Back
passiongirl-1993914 October 2017
Loved watching Fear Factor when Joe was host. Now, I don't care to watch it. Ludacrisp is such a poor host, trying to be smooth with the ladies, and they just eat it up because he's famous. Get rid of Crispy and bring back the Joe, or you lose at least 7 viewers in my circle, and from the looks of these reviews, a lot more than my 7.

I love it!
bluebeauty-3700518 June 2017
I love Ludicrous being the host. It brings a new edge to Fear Factor. I loved the original one too, which I grew up on. Some of the challenges, I just don't know how people do it, but so far it's been great and very entertaining to watch! I say go ahead and give it a try... judge the show yourself!!!

Hate the show
crimsonknight-1360531 May 2020
The show is garbage, I guess the college age contestants are so money hungry that they don't want to go out and get a regular job to earn the money they need is why they compete.

Not As Good As The NBC Original
jeremycrimsonfox23 December 2022
When Fear Factor was unleashed on NBC back in the 2000's, I was drawn into it. The reality competition had a lot of crazy stunts, from the kind of stunts seen in action movies, to even gross stunts like eating animal body parts or even live insects (some of them going as far as to cross the line with NBC's standards and practices). I never knew MTV decided to try a reboot, and man, while it is good to see the original reality fear inducer back, it is not as good as it used to be.

Hosted by Ludacris, the reboot sees four teams of two go at it in three stunts. However, unlike the original, which mixed things up, the stunts are separated by three categories, the first category is Beat The Beast, and is the one involving creepy crawlies and other creatures, the second is Face Your Fears, which is a challenge created based on a common fear shared by the contestants of the episode, and the third challenge is called The Final Fear, which is the Hollywood stunt events like doing something at high heights or escaping a certain object while airborne or underwater.

Okay, seeing the episoded, this reboot lacks the edge and gross factor of the original (which is something to say, especially since this reboot is airing on MTV, a cable channel that is aimed at older viewers, and thus, would not have the same restrictions as NBC, a network that has to follow FCC guidelines as well as their network broadcast standards and practices). One of the bigger issues I have is the lack of eating gross things. To me, the eating of live insects and animal body parts like livers was what made Fear Factor. While some episodes do have them, sadly, they are reduced to just eating gross food combinations like shakes mixed with Chipolte peppers, old sardines, and alfredo, or even a drink made of habanero and ghost peppers. While some episodes do have such animal parts involved, it is sad that they are infrequent, which is sad, especially when you consider MTV has aired similar shows with gross out eating in the past, mostly for comedic purposes.

My other problems are the fact that too many episodes are basically celebrity episodes (which make up the second half of the second and final season), which is gimmicky, as we want to see ordinary people facing their fears, and Ludacris is not a good host, as he is not as energetic as Joe Rogan (who was not afraid to call contestants animals when they easily clear a eating challenge), and in the first episode, he is even interrupted by his mother calling him, which ends up hurting the show's scary stunts. To me, this is not a bad reboot, but with its changes and host being too silly and laid back, this is not on par with the NBC original.
