Shamanism for Shamanism's Sake
stefanroloff3691 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I saw the film at a private screening. My day had been stressful, dealing with tech catastrophes. My head was spinning. The film provided me with great spiritual calm. Not that it's calm. It shows the performance of an intense ritual. But its non-religious shamanism for shamanism's sake concept put me in the type of trance that I needed to clear my head. Constributing to that was the fact that it seemed to be filmed in a very limited space. There the DP worked for 2 hours from one single camera position, orchestrating his constant flow of slow moves in synch with the music. Soothing - to me.
