The good think about Lucan. It gives you an idea of that type of scoundrels that think they are born to rule and consider to be the top of the evolutionary chain.

The worse think, those scoundrels have been power since 2010.

Lord Lucan, John Aspinall and Jimmy Goldsmith regarded themselves as buccaneers. In short pirates who were entitled to pillage and call it enterprise.

Aspinall (Christopher Eccleston) was a ruthless casino operator for the wealthy. He certainly liked to make the aristocracy poorer and thought more of animals than people, especially poorer people given his views on eugenics and population control.

Lord Lucan (Rory Kinnear) was unhappily married and losing his inherited wealth through his gambling addiction.

The framing device is a writer Pearson (Paul Freeman) interviewing associates of Lord Lucan and John Aspinall regarding the events the led to Lucan murdering his children's nanny Sandra Rivett.

Lucan had a messy separation from his wife Lady Veronica Lucan (Catherine McCormack.) He wanted her committed to a mental institution and get custody of her kids. He gets advice from Aspinall to be brutal like he had been with his ex wife who had cheated on Aspinall.

The first episode paints 'Lucky' Lucan as a loser. Hemorrhaging money through his gambling. Even his wife who looks to be heading towards a downward spiral suddenly gets the upper hand. It ends with Lucan mistakenly killing the nanny instead of his wife.

Eccleston came across as chilling with his posh accent as Aspinall. He was always shown with some kind of animal near to him, very much a predator. Something he tried to mould Lucan to become one.
