Alt-Emily tells Howard the flu epidemic wiped out 7% of her world's population which Howard estimates at around a half-billion deaths. It is established in a later episode that the epidemic struck in 1996. The world's population in that year was approximately 5.8 billion. A 7% casualty rate would put the death toll at approximately 408 million. Still staggering but well off the half-billion mark.
