Not bad.... but obviously not a 10 like some fake reviews would have u believe.

This is a very Persian movie. I didn't think I would enjoy it at all. But the acting and cast was very good. And the jokes were fairly good.

It is def. a date night type of movie that the fiance enjoyed.

Not good, Not bad!

Worth watching once!

The film "Simple Wedding" treads a delicate line between humor and the portrayal of a cross-cultural relationship involving an Iranian girl from a traditional background and an American modern bisexual boy.

The attempt at humor feels fake and forced throughout, with the cast, unfortunately, struggling to deliver their best performances. Seems like everyone tries so hard to act Not Good!

Regrettably, the wedding scene stands out as a low point in the film. It comes across as painfully fake, marred by poorly written dialogue and subpar execution. The blame lies squarely on the shoulders of the writer, who seems to have fumbled the opportunity to create a compelling narrative.

Move tries so hard, so bad and so fake to include LGBT+.

The film does manage to capture the essence of Los Angeles' superficial culture, portraying it accurately from the opening scenes to the somewhat questionable "healer" moment. For those familiar with the city, the depiction resonates, but it may come off as exaggerated to those less acquainted.

In summary, "Simple Wedding" falls short of expectations. While attempting to navigate the complexities of cross-cultural relationships, it struggles to find an authentic balance between humor and substance. The wedding scene and the overall execution of the film leave much to be desired, overshadowing glimpses of the film's attempt to satirize Los Angeles' superficial culture.

Terrible. What a waste of a fantastic cast.
farbodh-513-5185818 February 2020
This movie was nothing but a bunch of tropes thrown together. The writing was awful. None of the jokes landed. I was excited to see it because of the cast. Maz Jobrani and Shohreh Aghdashloo are terrific and hilarious when given even half decent material.

All the charm and cultural aspects of My Big Fat Greek Wedding was missing in this movie. Nothing in this movie other than a few scenes where the characters speak Persian had anything to do with Persian culture or humor. It was as if the writer was guessing what Iranian culture is supposed to be. I wanted to stop watching after about 30 minutes, but continued to watch in the hope that there would be one scene that made it worth my time. That moment never came. Avoid this film like the plague.

A disappointment
shila-1897011 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A simple wedding had a couple of chuckles. But, besides that it was a waste of time. Before anything, the bad acting of the main male actor was absolutely unbearable. The story was simple. It was about a guy who wanted to marry a rich minority girl and become rich. She got cold feet. His plans fell through. He got upset, and blocked her on social media. But, based on the movie the light at the end of the tunnel for every Persian person is a white person of another gender. So she did everything in her power to get the guy back.

Who wrote this westernized and orientalized screenplay? Nothing in this movie was culturally sound either North American or Persian. It was a mash.

Rather charming

A pleasant little film.

'A Simple Wedding', in all honesty, isn't that funny a production, it didn't make me laugh out loud once really. However, it's actually a sweet romance story rather than a flat out comedy.

Tara Grammy (Nousha) and Christopher O'Shea (Alex) have solid chemistry, none of their dialogue or anything feels awkward which is nice. Shohreh Aghdashloo, who I remember from TV's 'The Punisher', works ideally in her role as Ziba. The rest of the cast are well chosen, to be fair.

It's nothing special, but I found this film rather charming.

Delightful and fun

This is a delightful and fun romantic comedy! It is great to see a plot featuring a different culture, and a super politically correct cast as well. The film is colourful and light hearted. I enjoyed it a lot.

Thank you for this effort
persian-belle25 March 2020
As a woman of Iranian background living in North America, I enjoyed the film. I also appreciate the enthusiasm and the effort that went into this film. However I can understand where the low rating possibly comes from.

You see lots of energy spent on correcting the misrepresentations about the true culture of Iranians. Nice effort to show what a typical middle class Iranian family is like these days, even in Iran (although you never get to see the latter due to the censorship of the theocratic Islamic government in Iran).

The film tries to tackle issues about gender equality, same-sex marriage, war, immigration baggage... I understand that fearing this may be their only chance, the screen/story writers tried to put so much in one feature film.

As a result, every topic is lightly touched on since there's no time to explore all these issues in depth.

Someone here mentioned that this film lacks the charm of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Yes of course it does! My Big Fat Greek Wedding was focusing on mainly two issues with the objective of being a comedy: romance and culture clash. A Simple Wedding is too serious to be taken as a simple romantic comedy. It's so ambitious a project that it needs to be written as a novel in depth.

The Iranian diaspora is dealing with many issues such as recent immigration, being mistaken as Arabs, being judged as Muslims even though most of them don't practice Islam, pride of a 2600 year civilisation rich with humanity, love and poetry, and the shame of a current backward Islamic government, family culture rooted in tradition and conflict with modern life, having lived during a war and wanting peace.

The Iranian people are incredibly complex and difficult to represent, especially to the people of America whose sole idea of an Iranian is a clergy talking as Iranian government on tv.

I applaud the hard work and the ambirion that went to the making of this film. However I believe that it may not have been a great idea to bring all this baggage into this rom-com, if it was solely intended as such.

There would have been more success, in my opinion, if this film could have adhered to the simpler style of My Big Fat Greek Wedding (most people like simpler films just for entertainment). Then, for the more curious and intelligent viewer, offering an exploration series where each episode focuses on a different aspect of the Iranian culture. Now you're asking me who would want to watch that? Well, aren't there people watching series on Rome? Make Persia interesting and it will happen. Thanks.

Charming, lovely and well made movie
kemtehani29 December 2019
A simple wedding is a well made romantic comedy that provides a good insight to the Persian culture. There is a great chemistry between the cast, although, the movie start a bit rough and rushed at the beginning. But after the characters are developed, it is easy to connect with them and enjoy a wonderful story.

Great cast!!
shawn-7557415 February 2020
I saw this movie last night to a packed house and had a blast!! Was LOLing all over the place and have to say that the cast is everything in this movie. Though it's not a perfect movie, the characters in this feel so authentic and familiar that it's easy To forget the miscues and missteps. There is also a warmth and charm that runs through it that leaves you with a goofy smile.

Cute RomCom with a Fun Cast
Frendly2u226 February 2020
This movie was a classic rom com, with a stellar cast that had me laughing out loud during some scenes. Rom coms can be hit or miss, but I really enjoyed this movie, and the cute message at the end. Highly recommend it if you want a slightly different take on a love story, meaning of family, and of course a couple of great laughs.

A fun film that captures the realities of a contemporary/forward thinking family
FunFlickFilmNut15 April 2020
This movie is so well done. I was shocked to learn that this was the director's first feature film. Everything from the cast, to the cinematography, to the writing, to the music was superb! This truly is your typical Hollywood film but with heart. Moreover, it's a film about progressive lifestyles and sensibilities - all taking place in unexpected ways. It will most definitely put you in a good mood. That is if you are generally an optimistic fun loving person who sees beauty in different cultures and lifestyles.

Adorable, funny story about love and self-love
becca-boze16 February 2020
I genuinely enjoyed this movie and believe more should see it to get a good dose of laughter and what the Persian culture is like. Great example of cultures uniting, love prevailing, learning to love yourself before you can truly love anyone else. It reminded me of Big Fat Greek Wedding, one of my fave rom-com's from the early 2000's. Funny thing is, it's same producer! This movie was well casted, well written, and had me lol'ing. There was one part of movie that had me a tiny bit bored which is why I give it a 9/10.

Not only did I watch A Simple Wedding, I bought a copy and enjoyed it very much. Great job. Lovely story. And it had a happy ending. We need more happiness in this world. (Especially considering these past three years...but I don't want to go there right now. I want to focus on being grateful that this film was there for me to see. ) Wonderful cast, great cinematography and edit. Peace.

PS. Does this review contain spoilers? I hope not.
