Residents of South Hurstville are claiming a "people power" victory after the Land and Environment Court had dismissed an application to build a controversial mega-mosque in their quiet suburb. The proposed six-level building, which would have been built next to an Anglican nursing home and residential housing, was fiercely opposed in the neighbourhood by families who raised concerns about parking, traffic, and increased noise. More than 6000 residents objected to the development application and the South Hurstville Residents Association believes the court decision will set a welcome precedent for other community groups.
