The character of Samia is called "Samia the daughter of Lakhdar the Mudjahid" many times in the film, the word Mudjahid or Jihadist in this context doesn't mean an Islamic extremist or terrorist as commonly thought in the west but it refers to the men and women who fought for Algeria's liberation against France between 1954 and 1962. generally in Algeria, the men who fought France for freedom are called "Mudjahidin" or Jihadists and the men who fought the government in 1990s are called "Irhab" or terrorists.
