Always return your library books.

The wonderfully titled Lepidopterist's Companion is another very good episode from the strong fifth series. The slightly more titillating and cheeky theme continues, it started in the Crimson Feather and continues here. Mrs McCarthy once again provides laughs, Sorcha's performance has changed so much from the early years, she's gotten better and better, her character is much lighter though nowadays. Elizabeth Berrington is great in this episode, the runaway library scenes were very good.

Overall a good story, well acted, and felt very different, liked it. 8/10

Good episode

When Mrs McCarthy takes over the running of the mobile library, Father Brown discovers a shocking secret lurking among the bookshelves.

I kind of relate to this as I work in a library - in a mobile library as well - but we never peddled dodgy photos ( not as far as I know!). In this good episode nude photography is covered, so is blackmail and murder. Never expected a particular character to be antagonist and a fairly nasty one.

The Lepidopterist's Companion
Prismark1015 September 2018
With the previous episode, The Crimson Feather looking at the world of strip clubs.

This episode has little to do with butterflies and more to do with nude photography.

It all begins with Father Brown accumulating late fines for the mobile library but the library has been used to distribute saucy pictures.

It all comes to a head when young photographer's assistant Lewis Ward is mistaken for an intruder by his boss, the husband of the mobile librarian and dies. However it turns out that Lewis was actually poisoned and he might had not been involved with the rude photographs at all.

A very intriguing mystery, a delicious performance by Elizabeth Berrington and some time for romance as the local tramp Blind Arry takes Mrs McCarthy out for a date.

Carry on Father Brown

Warning: Spoilers
The Lepidopterist's Companion from season five is an interesting Father Brown episode, and kinds of sets the tone for the Carry On movies which is kind of bawdy for the time. Anyway, Elizabeth Berrington guest stars as Margaret Cartwright, who runs a mobile library with a bit of spice and bawdiness. Elizabeth Berrington is quite a familiar face on British TV, and I remember first seeing her on a guest spot in New Tricks that starred Amanda Redman.

I'm enjoying watching the early and mid-seasons of Father Brown and it makes for pleasant daytime viewing, combined with Magnum, P. I., Law and Order, Superstore and Barry.
