Supernatural Horror in a OK Movie
Paulo_Clemente20 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Nastya travels with the husband to a rural village in Russia to meet his sister. After she gets there she starts suspecting that something is wrong and starts witnessing sinister and unusual things.

Well like i said that's an OK movie, i like the plot, the actors do a good job but sometimes the movie like jumps from scene to scene in a strange way. With a better sequence on some scenes the movie in my opinion could be worth of a 7/8 stars. And of course, i like horror but is getting boring when the movies finish always in the same way, you're already expecting for that ending. It would be nice to be surprised with the movie ending.

Leave It To Russia To Flip Hollywood On It's Head
meddlecore11 October 2018
The Bride is a dark fairytale hailing from the Slavic steppes of Russia.

The story begins with a legend about a mad doctor who attempts to bring his recently deceased wife, back from the dead- in the body of a peasant virgin- by use of some sort of magical ritual that involves capturing the soul of the deceased person in a negative coated in this new silver emulsion, by painting their eyelids and having them photographed.

This involves burying the virgin alive in a coffin filled with items of the deceased.

Though, things don't exactly go as they had planned...as this act of utter desperation just leads the town and his family to become cursed. Fastforward a few generations later...and we find ourselves following college student, Nastya, and her photographer boyfriend, Ivan.

The two elope, before being harkened back to Ivan's childhood home, for a more "traditional" wedding ritual.

Not long after arriving, however, it becomes clear to Nastya that something eerie is going on with this family.

She's been hearing things in the walls; seeing things she can't explain, and doesn't like that they have got all sorts of bizarre plans that revolve around her.

It soon becomes evident that she's been conned, and their plans for her aren't exactly benevolent. But every attempt she makes to escape is thwarted.

Only a miracle can save her from facing the fate they have in store for her now.

But, short of that...she won't go down without a fight.

And she makes damn sure that her fate remains in her hands.

Based on some sort of old slavic marriage legend revolving around ritual this film is captivating enough to keep you entertained throughout.

While I'm not a huge fan of the CGI "Mother", it didn't really detract from the film any.

The only aspect of the plot I really didn't like, concerns the return of Ivan in perfect health after that major car accident.

That ruined the flow of plausibility. But I was still able to sit through and enjoy the rest of the film.

It's no Viy, or anything, but it's certainly watchable.

Wonderfully creepy!
paulclaassen21 June 2018
Wow, quite wonderful, actually. The film was really creepy, not just because of what happens, but also because of the premise. The contrast between the old and new in a modern world is great, adding to the creepiness. This is the story of a family curse and an innocent bride that could break the curse, wonderfully acted by Victoria Agalakova. Her husband, Ivan (Victor) is not really a strong character and it seems the film does just great without him. Bride Nastya (Victoria) is the star and hero of the film. The visual effects and make-up are very good and quite scary, too. This is a classic 80s style horror.

Destroy the PLATE!
Buddychild26 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So bad. Never in my life did I wanted a person to die in a movie as badly the "Bride"-Natia(sp?- who cares) she was the worse basically just a lot of doe eyed starring and yes why didn't she destroy the negative, or run, or close her dangling mouth. Bad acting all around, well except the children. Stupid plot, I still don't know why the whole town, of about 20 folks, did this man's bidding or why Mother mattered to them or why they thought Natia was a virgin. We're they a cult? Who knows? Also why was mother's face painted white as the killing mother but rotten as the corpse bride. Thank God it was only 2.99 on Amazon. Do not waste your time. Oh and enough of the grunge girl creaking bones spider walk, can't someone be creative enough to think of another way for a rotten dead corpse to move? Ugh.

Cliché
g0017122720 November 2017
This film gets only 2 stars its so cheesy and feels it rips of every haunted house/ ghost story imaginable. The story takes place in Russia apparently but even that feels unbelievable and tried to make it as American as possible. I think it was the makers dream to make a really cheesy American horror and they succeeded very well. Victoria agalakova the main actress is so hot though that's why i gave it a extra star.

5 Stars From Me
Foutainoflife14 May 2019
Despite having already married, a young bride is taken to the home of her husband for a ceremony with his family. A dark ceremony that may take her life.

I actually watched this a while back and really enjoyed it but the subtitles I had were choppy. I didn't want to review it until had watched it with better subtitles and having just finished it up for the 2nd time, I still like it.

I love bridal horror. Love can cause you to do crazy things and when you really consider it, there are a lot of ways it can be twisted into horror. The story is the best part of this film but it needs a little something. That something is detail. The underlying story is vague in my opinion. You can understand what is going on but there isn't much to help the viewer invest in the characters. It's creepy and there are moments that made me think of "The Woman In Black".

I liked the film but it really does need a bit of work. With a bit more attention this could be awesome.

Creepy Family Tradition
claudio_carvalho2 October 2018
In the Nineteenth Century, in Russia, people believe that a photograph would be capable to capture the soul of the diseased person and then transfer into a new body. In the present days, the college student Nastya (Viktoriya Agalakova) and her boyfriend, the photographer Vanya (Vyacheslav Chepurchenko) get married. Soon Vanya´s sister Liza (Aleksandra Rebenok) invites them to marry in her house in the countryside to follow and ancient family tradition. Nastya decides to go despite the objections of Vanya. They are welcomed by Liza and soon Nastya sees weird things in the old house. She seeks out Vanya but Liza informs that he has gone to the town with his friends. What will Nastya do?

"Nevesta" is a creepy underrated Russian horror film about family tradition and dark secrets. The mysterious screenplay is tense since Nastya fells that something is not right but she is trapped alone in the old house by the family of her fiancée. The plot is well resolved and the acting is good. My vote is seven.

Just runaway...
katkat_charleen24 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Horrible. Plot was predictable.

What I didn't like about this was the trailer showed a lot of promise. It looks scary. Sure, the plot was as expected, but there weren't even scary parts. I did not even cover my eyes. No parts of it. None. Not even a jump or a squeak.

***DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE PLANS OF WASTING YOUR TIME***

Ancestor did something terrible by sacrificing a virgin to reincarnate his wife. Obviously she becomes immortal. Soon her flesh will die but the spirit will live on. Or else. And of course the protagonist will prevail. Against all STUPID odds.

Vanya was a weakling. Nastya was, well, a bit slow. And the rest just doesn't make sense. The "hidden chambers" was already burning. Why is the house still standing? No smokes? And can't Vanya smash the rest of the walls so he can fit while Nastya was rescuing the kids while it's burning?

Probably, just probably, this would have been better with better script- writing (you know, with common sense. seriously, the house is burning but no damage??!!!). But I'm not going to let my hopes up.

How do yo say "Popcorn movie" in Russian?
spinoff7514 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie starts well (the thing about dead with painted eyedlids to cheat death is cool). Then the resurrection ritual of the dead bride would be cool as well with some basis like what power has the photographer over the town residents? In the present time we meet the descendents of this people and (for men and lesbians) we feast our eyes with Nastya (Viktoriya Agalakova) as the pretty new bride to be. BUT (and is a big "but") movie falls into American horror movies cliches: The secret room, the evil family that first are welcoming and later kidnap guests and own kind, the warnings "don't go too far", no police, no cellphones working... So it loses a lot of points. The doppelgänger of Nastya are well directed and improves some way the movie. By the way: The mix sound is awful! Music and sound FX are saturated compared to voices. Very bad indeed.

A dark Russian horror story
Elvis-Del-Valle5 November 2023
The truth about the negative reaction to this film is due to having too many expectations and it is certainly not something very momentous, but the reality is that Nevesta is a good film or a decent one at the very least. It is very well produced in many aspects and the ancient period scenes are very good. It is an acceptable film, since Russian cinema is not well known in the world of genre films, except for some well-known classics. The story it offers is really good and fresh, taking into account the concept of photography as a means of capturing the soul, something that has not been seen much in other films. It is more suspense-oriented at first, and the plot can be somewhat difficult to process, leaving a couple of questions that are later answered. It's actually not a difficult story to understand. Nevesta is an acceptable film in Russian cinema and a small advance for it in genre cinema. Surely it could have been much more, but it is another interesting film to learn more about European cinema. My final rating for this movie is an 8/10.

Beautifully shot cliche-full story
nietta9430 May 2019
We've been knew to the story. You'll probably predict most of it. Yet, it is very well shot. Dialogue seems kind of dull at times, but it is interesting they leave up some elements to interpretation. Don't put it on the top of your priority list, but it will most likely entertain you if you give it a try.

Russian horror film?
temuukaaaaa15 April 2019
I can't believe they spent over 1mil $ to this movie, horrible acting, horrible plot, horrible music, This is my first russian horror movie ive seen, but they just copied western style so badly. Dissappointing, the only one thing scared me is the role actor's yellow teeth.

Unoriginal, By-The-Numbers Horror.
redrobin62-321-20731113 October 2018
Sigh. Where to begin. We know one thing for sure - the director and producers of "The Bride" has seen "The Exorcist," "The Omen," "The Conjuring," and every other horror film in the world because they applied every trick they learned over the years into their "masterpiece." To say this film is full of cliches is like saying the Vatican is full of holy people.

I guess I hate to admit it but maybe, just maybe, there are no more horror stories to tell, at least nothing original anyway. From here on and forthwith we will be inundated with nothing more than the same ol' same ol' day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year. The die is cast; film makers in the horror genre have reached an impasse. From here on out we'll probably have more unoriginal offerings like "The Bride." At least the cinematography was pleasing to the eyes, so there's that.

Great story screwed by the heroine
gibsonj-7215814 September 2022
It has a great premise and mostly decent actors but either the actress playing it or the role of the heroine was written or played so bad that by the end you're just rooting for them to get rid of her. She only has one expression and it wasn't the horror the situation called for, just some slack jawed expressionless blank gaze mostly. You expect that even a child would've caught on but not this chick. She couldn't get a clue if she was playing the game.

The other characters were fine and the movie was pretty good. Everyone else played their role just fine. The heroine never really gets her crap together.

its like the joke...
ops-525352 March 2021
What walks and walks and never reaches the door??? the film called nevesta or ''the bride'' in english. it is really nothing new or original, its ultraslow on plot development, and when the scares starts emerging, youre already worn out and tired and nearly sleeping, so i think this was a miss story/plotwise. the production aint bad, and the set department has done a great job prop wise and location settings. it does also score pretty high on filmatography, but its still not enough to call this a super horror.

supernatural it is, and pretty psychotic in the hinges, so i do not want to scare away the audience, im just old and grumpy that has pivotal feeling about the genre. this was far too slow so just a 6.

Sounds like: "Ready or Not 2019" But it is not.
robnero16 September 2019
A young woman engaged returns with her fiancé to his family's home to meet his weird family, only to find out their is a life or death ritusl she unknowingly must endure...Odd. If you do happen upon this movie, don't use the English voice over. It makes a bad thing worse....or does it?

This is the plot to READY OR NOT: A bride's wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.

The Bride within
kosmasp26 October 2020
First things first: the main female protagonist is as beautiful as they come. But is not afraid to get down, dirty and ugly. Which you have to do in a movie like this. And yes while this is cliche ridden, it is still decent enough. You get the usual stuff (that is if you are a horror buff, you'll notice certain things fairly quickly), especially when it comes to some cheap scares.

Still I don't think you should fault the movie for that. When someone copies something in a good way, you can just sit back and enjoy it. The special effects are fairly good and you can't generally fault the movie technically speaking. Well made and if you are into horror movies, you'll probably be thoroughly entertained or whatever you'd call it

I'm done with horror films
theInfamousPeppapy7 June 2022
In theory, it is a different horror movie and it could not be a better movie, because this type of story is for teenagers, making a proper review of a horror movie is like criticizing Dora the explorer; so it is what it is, at least "the bride" isn't the cliché monster in a horror movie, at least it's not the monster I used to see hundreds of years ago when I was a teenager, I am not saying she was not the type of the monster that I expected in a horror movie, I hadn't seen a horror movie since the orphanage in 2009, and that was horrible.

not bad story was nice and the atmosphere was good too
esidarkhah5 February 2022
The movie was fine the actors weren't as bad it's only the story is kinda repeatable you get used to these kind of stories and the acting was kinda dumb the way they were acting and the way sometimes they were going and stuff they were doing was kinda dumb which made it kinda annoying more than anything else.

The movie wasn't also really scary it was more fun thing to watch and if you just want a scary movie this isn't really much of a thing it's more of fun to watch than anything else.

Warning: Spoilers
I give it a star because is not the type of action I would have like the protagonist of women to take. Spoiler: I feel like she was dumb in all the movie her paper was being stupid or what? Is not an action she would needed to take. She could just break the seal so that the women could be safe and the children wouldn't need to suffer her death. I feel like this movie is creppy, but not at all smart, the logic where was it! Was she not analyzing the situation of doing the right thing. This is dumb! I hate don't like it, recommend for spooky but not for entertainment u will get mad.

In-laws... am I right?
In today's day and age, it is hard as a viewer to come across something that feels original and fresh, let alone imagining coming up with it or writing it down. So once it is established that something may not be particularly original or potentially derivative, the next step is to ask, was it done well?..

I believe this was relatively well done despite its lacking in originality. It had aspects that felt fresh, however the overall vibe was... familiar. Despite its run of the mill spooky plot, it was still interesting and engaging. I thought this had all the makings of a dope horror but felt it leaned more into the tension building aspects pushing it more towards thriller, rather than going full blown horror with it... I would have preferred the latter.

One thing of note is I thought the movie looked quite nice. There were shots here and there where I specifically thought oh wow that was nice. It also, though few and far between, did have some genuinely spooky moments and decent effects.

Overall I thought this was a decent, slightly above average thriller/horror with a plot that definitely had potential. 5.5 rounding up to 6, would recommend.
