Contrary to what you may have heard, being a TV writer isn’t solely about the interminable daily ritual of placing, receiving and consuming each afternoon’s rigorously debated lunch order. No—there are also fantasy football teams to be managed and Nerf basketballs to be bounced from one end of the workspace to the other. That, plus the tricky business of using one’s imagination to dream up the characters, storylines and dialogue that so many millions of people around the world build their lives around, e.g. a highly demanding creative act that often requires just as much strategic distraction as it does pure artistic inspiration. And all this is even before we even get to strikes, AI and a post-Peak TV landscape where the number of shows are actually contracting for the first time this century.
So yeah—it’s a hard industry to build a career in.

Ana Ofelia Murguía, the Mexican actor best known for voicing the titular character of Disney and Pixar’s 2017 animated movie “Coco,” died Sunday, Dec. 31, BBC News reports. She was 90.
“Coco,” which follows a young boy as he crosses over to the land of the dead during Mexico’s Día de los Muertos, won two Academy Awards, for best animated feature and original song for “Remember Me.” Murguía voices the aging Mama Coco, whose memory of her father is reignited by her great-grandson, Miguel. At the emotional climax, Murguía’s Coco sings the film’s central song, “Remember Me,” with Miguel.
“Coco” was lauded for its representation of Mexican culture and celebrated for its exploration of heavy subjects, like death, through the lens of a children’s movie.
Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature paid tribute to Murguía on X/Twitter, writing that her “career was vital for the performing arts of Mexico.

Pretty Little Liars, the soapy teen drama based on the books by Sara Shepard, captivated audiences for seven seasons. The cliquey friend group found themselves being harassed by an anonymous “A” after the disappearance of their leader, snarky Alison Dilaurentis (Sasha Pieterse). But here was something the actor wished had disappeared with her character.
In ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ Sasha Pieterse loathed her character’s yellow ruffled tank top

Throughout the first few seasons of Pretty Little Liars, most of Sasha Pieterse’s appearances on the show were flashbacks from the night Alison disappeared. Because of that, she’s usually seen wearing the same piece of clothing — a ruffly yellow tank top.

Warner Bros. Television Group announced Friday it has renewed a long-standing overall deal with Bill Lawrence, the Emmy-winning executive producer, writer, and showrunner of “Ted Lasso” and his production company, Doozer.
Lawrence, Doozer and Wbtg have been collaborating since 2011. This is his fourth contract with the company. Bill Lawrence, the top comedy showrunner at the moment amid the enormous critical and commercial success of Ted Lasso, is staying put at Warner Bros. TV Group through 2028. After lengthy negotiations, Emmy winner Lawrence, who had a little time left on his current overall pact at the studio, has closed a blockbuster new five-year deal for his Doozer production company, I have learned. Noone is commenting but sources value the pact at more than $100 million, catapulting Lawrence in the very top tear of TV showrunners.
Like other overall agreements of that caliber in the era of Peak TV, the path to this one was not straight-forward, with some sources I spoke to calling it a wild ride. I hear Warner Bros. originally balked at Lawrence’s financial ask. Because he is still under an overall arrangement at the studio, the Scrubs creator could not go on the open market and officially test the waters.

Actress Lucy Hale ("Pretty Little Liars") poses for Dutch lingerie brand Hunkemöller, photographed by David Roemer:
"I'm at this place in my life where I accept all parts of me, not just the good parts," said Hale.

Jayson Blair has joined the cast of Kat Dennings’ Hulu comedy series “Dollface” in a recurring role. He will play Liam, a new love interest for Izzy (Esther Povitsky), who, for the “Dollface” uninitiated, is a friend and co-worker of Dennings’ main character Jules.
The show centers on a young woman who is dumped by her longtime boyfriend. She then tries to rekindle long-forgotten female friendships, ignored in favor of spending time with her ex, amid a battle with her own imagination. Dennings is best known for her work on the “Thor” franchise, the Disney Plus series “WandaVision” and the long-running CBS sitcom “Two Broke Girls.”
Season 2 of the series from creator Jordan Weiss and showrunner Michelle Nader is currently in production in Los Angeles for an anticipated 2022 premiere. Lucy Hale is set as a lead in Ragdoll, a crime drama series for AMC and Alibi based on the novel by Daniel Cole, Deadline has confirmed. The series hails from Sid Gentle Films, the British production company behind Killing Eve.
Adapted for television by Freddy Syborn, the six-part drama is described as a “modern-day Faustian thriller” centers on the murder of six people whose bodies have been dismembered and sewn into the shape of one grotesque body — nicknamed “The Ragdoll.”
Assigned to the shocking case are DS Nathan Rose, recently reinstated to the London Met; his best friend and boss, Di Emily Baxter; and the unit’s new recruit, DC Lake Edmunds, portrayed by Hale. The “Ragdoll Killer” taunts the police by sending them a list of his next victims, with Rose’s name among them. And with those victims to protect, our heroes soon come under intense public scrutiny.

I'd like to start by saying that I have always been a fan of Lucy Hale. She was the main reason I tuned into Pretty Little Liars all those years ago.
Before her breakout role as Aria Montgomery on Pretty Little Liars, Hale had a few memorable credits.
She was Robin Scherbatsky's little sister Katie on How I Met Your Mother Season 2 Episode 12, Justin's goth girlfriend Miranda on Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place and Lena Kaligaris's little sister Effie on Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants 2.
Hale was even a member of the main cast on two short-lived series: The CW's Privledged and Bionic Woman. She had one of those faces that you felt like you had seen somewhere, even if you couldn't place it. She felt like someone famous.
And when she became Aria Montgomery on ABCfamily's Pretty Little Liars, she became a household name. Aria was one...

Superman & Lois is moving full steam ahead at The CW.
Deadline is reporting that the forthcoming Arrowverse series has cast Dylan Walsh in the role of Samuel Lane, “a no-nonsense Army General who’s determined to keep America, and the world, safe from all threats – from this world or beyond.”
Yes, this means that the father of Lois Lane is headed to the new series.
Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will reprise the roles they have already been playing in the Arrowverse sporadically over the last few seasons.
The series follows the iconic characters as they deal with stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society.
Despite going straight-to-series, The CW planned on filming a pilot episode to show off to advertisers at the network's upfronts presentation in May.
But the Coronavirus pandemic has scuppered those plans, and the show will not enter production...

The Archie Universe on TV is set to expand with the upcoming addition of Katy Keene, and after viewing the three episodes available for critics, I can say that the series offers something new for the franchise.
Instead of being shrouded in darkness like Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Katy Keene plays out more like a New York-set fairytale, and in the process, it shines a light on the pitfalls of trying to become rich and famous.
Lucy Hale leads the cast as the titular character.
You would think the actress would be over the teen drama genre after roles in Privileged, Life Sentence, and, of course, Pretty Little Liars., but Hale embodies the character well, using her full acting range to convey this colorful confection of a character that first originated in comic-book form.

According to ABC, “Love Me” follows the stories of a multi-generational family in Chicago as they search for love in our increasingly detached digital world, and explores how their unconditional love for one another helps them navigate the highs and lows of it all.
The project is based on the Swedish format from “Welcome To Sweden,” whose co-creator and star Josephine Bornebusch will executive produce. Warner Bros. TV, which houses Cardillo and Keith’s In Good Company banner, is also attached. Cardillo and Keith write and executive produce, along with Banks and Handelman. Brownstone’s Dannah Shinder will co-executive produce.
