Funny and light
justkrepper21 June 2017
It's definitely not the best performance from Valérie Lemercier, but we spend a good moment after all.

Some funny jokes, a movie to clear your mind and stop thinking about your own problems. It's quite realistic and therefore brings you to remember your own love and family experiences, whether they are positive or negative ones. I think you can truly identify yourself with Marie-Francine if you are over 40 years old, otherwise you are kindly smiling and praying for it doesn't happened to you.

At least, it totally correspond to the trailer, which means a sweet and light french comedy.

Life may be very hard

For Marie-Francine the life is quite hard: her husband left her and she has to go back to her parent's home (she is 50 years old): and little by little she will recover her life.Marie-Francine is a pleasant comedy with some touchs of humour about the marriage, the life of the people in the neighborhood and her new love.

Warning: Spoilers
French film Marie-Francine also goes under the english title '50 is the New 30'. The film follows Marie-Francine (Valérie Lemercier), a 50 year-old research scientist as she copes with becoming single again. Her husband Emmanuel (played by Denis Podalydés) has left for a younger version woman. This causes Marie-Francine to move back with her parents. Her well-meaning parents try to: 1. Get her a job (although they seem to be unaware of exactly what she does); 2. Fix her up with a date (although the pickings for her at that age are pretty slim); 3. She is also encouraged to try Internet dating (although the hipsters who build her Internet profile use language Marie-Francine doesn't know); etc., etc.

More predictable problems arise in this French comedy. None of them are unexpected nor do they challenge the viewer's intellect. But the film is a pleasant diversion, a sweet little tale.

Warning: Spoilers
I tried watching this mess in the hope of something funny but when the dumb husband enters dressed as a woman.... OMG. The writers could not write a funny line or scene so got desperate. What an annoying waste of time! Annoying characters, plot and....

Bad movie.

Warning: Spoilers
I must say I saw this movie in french, my natural language.

Well, it's crap. Full of cliché. Bad jokes, stupid plot.

The father is an idiot, the mother is a silly person. Inconsistent characters. The love plot between Lemercier and Timsit is totally unbelievable.

Did I said "cliches" ? Well, Lemercier has a twin sister = cliché ! Lemercier see Timsit trying to comfort her twin sister, so she believe he's cheating on her = cliché ! The mother has intercourse with another shop owner since decades = cliché !

Lemercier plays a scientist (research branch) and got an electronic cigarettes shop from her parents ; guess what she does ? She smokes real cigarettes while her shop is open, but no problem, customers are dumb enough to not smell tobacco odor.

OK, that's enough, I gave it a 2 on 10. Total waste of time.

Heartful and funny

I do not write reviews, and I know my review will not be read much, because what is called 'Foreign-films' pages are rarely visited by English speaking visitors. Since this funny movie was grossly misjudged by the public, I overrated it slightly for compensation. I will just add this is an intelligent romantic comedy which is not very common, full of enjoyable characters and events. Extremely lovely and entertaining !

Boring, bad photography, not funny.

No one really worked during the making of the movie.
