Product of genuine creativity
info-8531028 September 2019
I discovered this film at Karlovy Vary Film Festival, and left me speechless for a long time. Amazing work! I had to watch it twice and if I get the chance I'll do it again. A shocking story that humorously conveys the tragedy, a product of genuine creativity.

A masterpiece! If you want to see what is going on in this patriarchal country, you don't want to miss it. A magnificent reflection!

Amazing movie, great director and wonderful actors
dodavladimir19 October 2019
As an actor and film lover I can only says that is an amazing movie. As an albanian (who knows very well Kosova too), I appreciate and adore the ironic way in which the director deals with certain subjects. The black humor that comes out from the script and the beautiful energy of the actresses arrive in very high level. My opinion: in Albania and in Kosova the movie should be screened in schools, to eradicate certain false customs or rescpectability from petty bourgeois. Without doubts, I think that L. Zeqiraj is the best albanian director (from female and male). Just watch it

Impactful, meaningful, important
dolh35025 September 2019
This movie will make you think, and it will spark important conversations that many of us are too afraid to initiate ourselves. It may not be your everyday cookie-cutter movie, like a rom-com or a Disney film, but instead it's a meaningful and inspiring film.

A tale of great emotional depth

A tale of great emotional depth with intriguing philosophical discussions about despair, the value of individual choice and deception.

Beautiful, Bold and Brave Film!
info-5732224 September 2019
Excellent, raw, emotional drama - beautifully done! I would love to see the reactions of the audience in the Balkans, I am sure it will provoke a lot of reactions with its bold mission to give women the freedom to express their emotions. So called silicone virgins and "the ladies", taught to hold their tea mugs with raised toddlers, who don't drink, smoke or swear, "will be excited", also balkan men will be upset with Aga's House strong women characters that dare to talk about their lives with their "language". One thing is for sure - there are many exciting conversations with the audience ahead of Aga's House.

Not Representative of Kosovo's women and their struggles
valbonaugzmaili22 September 2019
Firstly, the storyline of the movie was promising. However, it was not truly representative of what the females were put through during the war in Kosovo. Secondly, the language used in this movie was extremely offensive and not at all representative of the women of Kosovo. The subtitles did not translate in detail, making it so those unfamiliar with the Albanian language did not understand the extent of the language being used. Lendita Zeqiraj did a poor job in this movie, and I'm extremely disappointed with her work. I will never watch her movies again and will not recommend anyone to watch Aga's House! Only Lendita Zeqiraj knows how she got this far representing Kosovo and it's women. The language used shocked me to the core! Extremely disappointed with this female director from Kosovo. Your movie is sickening and does not deserve to be shown around the world👎🏻!!

Beautifully crafted story, great performances!

Aga's House gives the insights into life of the Kosovan society but not only, the culture, the relations between genders and the fate of women in the society.

Amazing film
suadfatic8 October 2019
Aside from a couple minor issues I had with this film, I loved it. It just felt incredibly real. It didn't feel like I was watching actors, It felt like I was watching the lives of these women unfold, and that those lives would just continue unfolding even when the camera wasn't rolling.

spectacular

A great case study in how simplicity can produce spectacular results that extend beyond film's budget.

Deep Empathetic Movie
sharonsmith-7580422 November 2019
Saw this one at Calgary International Film Festival and loved it. Aga's House is a deeply empathetic movie, It feels for all of its characters even when they act in self-serving or self-deceiving ways.

Daring and striking stylistic approach
labmjeku24 September 2019
One of the most daring films in Albanian, that challenges corrupted and patriarchal societies on Balkans. Great script, great direction, great actors - something very rare to see in films from the region. A striking stylistic approach - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Disappointed
debatik_c23 September 2019
Definitely has nothing to do with the reality after the Kosovo war Especially offending our Women, Mothers, Sisters devoted to that Language which was so cruel and offensive, and the marriage of that Woman as if the Family had swapped a Horse (climax) I don't want even Albanians from Albania to think that film reflects the reality of that post-war Kosovo layer. Also the translation was not complete in English because if the translation were complete all Canadians would have been disappointed by the dirty words

This film director rules!!!
festabe23 November 2019
I will always wonder way Aga's House wasn't our country's choice for Oscar submission for foreign films, probably because it criticises that rotten and corrupted ruling patriarchal society! With this one Kosovo would have a chance! Lendita Zeqiraj is most successful and most awarded film director from Kosovo, she tackles our society's most painful issues, and her style is universally recognised in entire world. I recommend all of her films staring with Balcony (Ballkoni), Fence (Gardhi) and especially Aga's House (Shpia e Ages).

Highly recommended!
rekab-3464820 October 2019
An incisive portrait of Kosovo society, but it resonates everywhere. There's a political undercurrent, a gentle whisper of a critique aimed at the weight of society combined with cultural and political intransigence.

My favourite movie of the year so far!
barbarabewick-1915630 October 2019
This movie really took me by surprise. From the moment it starts it takes a hold of you and doesn't let you go until the very emotional ending, at which point I realised, I was watching my favourite movie of the year so far.

Poor film development
donkonton25 September 2019
The movie itself is entertaining. If you know albanian you will laugh at the jokes, you will get the jokes but nothing really happens in this movie. It doesn't look familiar, it doesn't look real, it is not relatable to the kosovan society, the real women of this country. To me when I watches this film it was as if I watched a "hollywood" movie. They tried so hard to step it up a notch, to elevate the culture but it did not work. Yes, some things were there, the elements were there but overall it was not realistic. Women talking about weed, knowing about it and even smoking it was unrealistic. It is enigmatic but not in a good way because it always leaves you want to know more about what happened. I truly don't understand this movie at all, to me it was too pretentious and not very honest.
