Despite no longer being a part of Yellowstone’s next season, Kevin Costner seems to be busier than ever. First up, he’s got a two-part Western epic called Horizon: An American Saga that’s coming out this summer, and now, Deadline is reporting that the actor’s got another “longtime passion project” ready to roll. While there are no specifics on what it may be, Costner is set to produce and star in the untitled film, with the director of his 2016 thriller Criminal, Ariel Vromen, at the helm.
In the article, no specifics are given, although Costner has been open about certain long-planned projects in the past. One is his book, The Explorer’s Guild, which he wrote with his Horizon collaborator Jon Baird and was called an Indiana Jones-style globetrotting adventure. It could be anything, although given Vromen’s track record, which includes based-on-fact thrillers, The Iceman (with...

Exclusive: After mounting the two-part Civil War epic Horizon: An American Saga for Warner Bros and New Line, Academy Award winner Kevin Costner has selected his next film to produce and star in, that being an as-yet-untitled picture that Ariel Vromen will direct from a script owned by the actor.
“I could not be more honored to be reunited with my friend and collaborator,” said Vromen in a statement to Deadline, “especially on Kevin’s longtime passion project.”
Pic’s plot is under wraps and further details are scarce, but production is expected to kick off in early 2025. This will be Costner and Vromen’s second film together, on the heels of the 2016 action thriller Criminal co-starring Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones. News of the project comes as Vromen awaits the release of his latest, 1992 — a drama on the 1992 Los Angeles riots, starring Tyrese Gibson, Scott Eastwood and the late Ray Liotta,...

A couple weeks ago, we learned that a new take on Red Sonja had gone into production – after spending decades in development hell – with Matilda Lutz (Revenge) in the title role. Deadline reports that Lutz is joined in the cast by Oliver Trevena, who has experience wielding a sword thanks to his role in the 2019 film The Rising Hawk. Trevena is taking on the role of Tr’aal, “a gladiator-type warrior who joins Sonja in her fight against an evil emperor”.
M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) is directing Red Sonja from a screenplay by Joey Soloway (Transparent) and Tasha Huo (Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime). This version of Red Sonja is derived from the sword and sorcery comic books by Dynamite Entertainment, based on the character created by Robert E. Howard and adapted by Roy Thomas. Hany Abu-Assad, the acclaimed Dutch-Palestinian director of Oscar-nominated “Paradise Now” and “Omar,” has broken new ground with “Huda’s Salon” which world premiered Sept. 9 at Toronto in the competitive Platform section.
The female-driven tense spy thriller is headlined by Maisa Abd Elhadi (“The Angel”) who stars as Reem, a young mother who falls into a trap during a visit at a hair salon run by Huda, a seemingly friendly woman working for the Israeli secret service. “Huda’s Salon” marks the helmer’s follow up to Fox’s “The Mountains Between Us” with Kate Winslet and Idris Elba. After 10 consecutive days of violence, the renewed Israeli-Palestinian conflict is already considered the worst clash since 2014. For a film community known to be fiercely opposed to the politics led by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, both Palestinian and Israeli filmmakers and producers fear the escalation of violence will cause irreparable damage. There have been countless fallouts between Israelis and Palestinians in the region over the last 70 years, but industry executives indicate that the proliferation of social media is taking commentary on the conflict to unprecedented levels.
“Today, because of social media, hatred is spreading much quicker. This is a nightmare, and it will affect relationships in the medium to long term,” predicts Rani Massalha, the Paris-based French-Palestinian producer of Tarzan and Arab Nasser’s “Gaza Mon Amour” which opened at Venice and represented Palestine in the Oscar race this year.

Maisa Abd Elhadi, the Palestinian actress whose credits include the Channel 4 series Baghdad Central and Netflix original The Angel, reportedly is recovering after being shot by Israeli police during a protest in Haifa.
The region is experiencing its worst violence since the 2014 Gaza war. This week, at least 35 Palestinians including 12 children were killed, according to Palestinian officials, and several Israelis have also died, while hundreds more protestors have been injured by police, who have faced accusations of brutality.
Tensions have been rising in the country ahead of a looming court order that would expel dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in a majority Arab neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
A photo purportedly of Abd Elhadi being treated in the back of an ambulance circled widely on social media this week. She has since posted on her Instagram account about the incident, highlighting a post that said Israeli soldiers had...

Director Ariel Vromen has found his next project, the buzzy Los Angeles riots script “April 29, 1992” from writer Sascha Penn.
Vromen, whose credits include the well-received Michael Shannon thriller “The Iceman,” has boarded the project with an eye for fast-tracked production, as early as June.
The film takes place on the first night of the historic Los Angeles riots of 1992. It centers on a custodian who brings his son to work that evening, as the two quickly find themselves in the middle of a heist gone wrong.
The hope is for the film to release in 2022 to mark the 30th anniversary of the riots that rocked L.A. for nearly a week, following the acquittal of four LAPD officers for the use of excessive force in the recorded and widely-viewed arrest and beating of Rodney King. The events counted 63 deaths, more than 12,000 arrests and over $1 billion in property damages for the...

Paiva Studio and Mediawan Rights, the commercial arm of the group, have acquired the adaptation rights to “Civilizations” which was published in August 2019 in French and was awarded the prestigious “Grand Prix du Roman” 2019 by the Académie Française. The translation rights for “Civilizations” have already been acquired for 16 languages. Wattpad, a global multiplatform entertainment company known for its digital novels and data insights, is expanding into film development and will finance two new film projects, including one from “Children of Men” writer David Arata and another from Angela Lamanna, a co-producer on Netflix’s “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” the company announced Thursday.
Founded in 2006, Wattpad allows users to write, post and read short, text-based novels. Readers can engage with the content by commenting on the novel or “liking” specific paragraphs. This data is then used by the company to identify emerging trends within the platform — such as what type of content is being written about and engaged with the most. The company then uses this information to help studios create video content, with Sony Pictures Television, Hulu and more having all used the data. Currently, the company has 50 different TV and film projects in development with studios around the world.

About halfway through “Your Broken Shore,” the first new song by doom-metal firebrands My Dying Bride in five years, the band seems to experience a near breakdown. The only instrument left is Andrew Craighan’s guitar, sounding out like a trumpet until the drums kick back in. The moment is beautiful and a little hopeful but also heartbreaking all at once. It’s the true essence of My Dying Bride, a group that could rightfully claim to be metal’s most sorrowful band.

What happened in the Castle Rock season 2 ending? Let us explain...
This Castle Rock article contains spoilers.
Castle Rock season 2 has come to an end. The season finale, "Clean," ties up a few loose ends but leaves some of the show's biggest mysteries unsolved. Who is the Angel and are he and the Kid one and the same? Where is Henry Deaver? What's next for Annie Wilkes?
With Castle Rock season 3 yet to be confirmed by Hulu, it's unclear if we'll get answers to all of these questions. You shouldn't worry too much though, as this Stephen King extravaganza is one of the most popular shows on the streaming service at the moment.
Until we do get that renewal, let's chat a bit about the ending of season 2 and see what we did learn about the forces at work in Maine's most haunted town as well as...

Much has been written about how “Captain Marvel” breaks new ground in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by starring a female superhero in the lead role for the first time, but that’s hardly the only way the film breaks new ground for the long-running comic book franchise. As reported last June, “Captain Marvel” also makes history behind the camera with composer Pinar Toprak, who is now the first woman to ever score a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In order just to get noticed by Marvel, Toprak knew she had to do something a bit flashy to stand out.
“I made my intentions clear, and when the opportunity to demo came, I wanted to make sure that I made the best impression,” Toprak recently told Vulture. “I went and hired a 70-piece orchestra and did a big production of it so that they could see me in front of the orchestra conducting,...

Villains from '90s animated movies were usually the furthest thing from attractive. That's why fans were shocked when the first look at the upcoming live-action remake of Disney's Aladdin came out - and Aladdin was not the only hot dude in the picture. That's right, folks, you heard it here: Jafar is . . . sexy? So, who's the charismatic actor bringing a new take to this iconic villain?
Marwan Kenzari is the 35-year-old Dutch actor bringing Aladdin's evil vizier to life. Although he's a relative newcomer to Hollywood, he's already had a successful and award-winning career in Europe. Ever since 2009 when two Latin American films, Argentine winner “The Secret in Their Eyes” and Peru’s “The Milk of Sorrow,” were shortlisted for the foreign-language film Oscar, roughly every other year a Latino movie has secured a nom in that category.
However, only three pics since the 1940s have brought home the top prize, as Chile’s “A Fantastic Woman” did earlier this year, preceded by Argentina with “The Secret in Their Eyes” in 2009 and “The Official Story” in 1985.
But the region’s native sons have done better in other categories. In recent years, a Mexican director has won the Academy Award for direction and snagged a best picture win or nomination for his film. Alfonso Cuaron won multiple Oscars for “Gravity” in 2014, followed by Alejandro G. Inarritu, who triumphed in 2015 and 2016 and Guillermo del Toro for “The Shape of Water” in March.

A pair of French production companies, Païva Films and Mirador Pictures, have boarded an untitled spy series created by Charlie Wachtel and David Rabinowitz, the co-writers of Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman.”
Starting with Fidel Castro’s victory in January 1959, the series will depict the secret war between Cuban intelligence, the Kgb, the CIA and the mafia, through the unfolding of Operation Mongoose, one of the more secretive intelligence operations in American history. Wachtel and Rabinowitz said in a statement that the show would be “about those conversations held behind closed doors at the highest levels of government.”
“These are the conversations that the public never hears, the conversations that alter the course of history. We want to delve into the spy-thriller intrigue, the politics, and the absurdities of Operation Mongoose by telling the story from multiple perspectives: the U.S. government, Castro and his revolutionaries, the CIA, and the Cuban exiles in Miami,...

Argentina has selected Luis Ortega’s well-received Cannes Film Festival crime drama The Angel (El Angel) as its contender for the Foreign Language Oscar. The film, produced by Pedro Almodóvar, broke box office records in its home country; The Orchard acquired U.S. rights after its Un Certain Regard bow and has set a November 9 theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles for the film before rolling it out nationally.
The pic from Ortega, who directed and co-wrote with Sergio Olguin and Rodolfo Palacios, is a portrait based on Argentina’s real-life serial killer dubbed “The Angel of Death.” The pic picks up the story when Carlitos (Lorenzo Ferro), a 17-year-old with movie star swagger, blond curls and a baby face in 1970s Buenos Aires, meets Ramon (Chino Darín) who embark on a journey of discovery, love and murder. When he is finally caught, the press dubs Carlitos “The...

“Doesn’t anyone even care about being free?” muses Carlitos (Lorenzo Ferro) disdainfully as he wanders louchely from room to garishly nouveau-riche room in the house he’s just broken into. The irony is that by the time the closing credits roll on Luis Ortega’s “The Angel,” Carlitos will be the definition of un-free, about to embark on the longest period of incarceration in Argentinian history.

Ortega’s Carlitos is pitched younger still (he’s a high school student) and many of the grislier details have, rather dubiously, been jettisoned in this slick-surfaced, stylishly designed portrait of a serial killer.
