Reynolds attempts to convince Steve that Dan hated him enough to commit suicide. He adds that if Harrigan believes it, they can avoid the grand jury and a trial. Matt recounts Althea's concerns about Karen to Maggie, who insists that Althea is wrong and should mind her own business. She further says that if Karen were the one causing her strain, then why did she speak pleasantly with Karen in the lounge but then snap at John? She confides that she feels like something's wrong, and wonders if she needs psychiatric counseling because she's losing her mind. After suggesting that Matt keep Karen working in the clinic, Karen takes Erich to Matt's office for a visit. There she plays the helpless female, asking Matt for advice about an apartment and a used car. Reynolds brings Carolee to see Steve in jail so that they can convince him to tell District Attorney Harrigan the whole story regarding Carolee and Dan. Reynolds leaves Carolee and Steve alone to decide together. Carolee begs Steve to allow Reynolds to tell Harrigan everything. Despite his warnings that they would be handing Harrigan his prosecution case on a silver platter, he eventually concedes to give it a chance.
