A 2-part documentary series that looks at the part Scotland played in the sea battles of World War 1. Episode 1 looks at the Scapa Flow naval base in the Orkney Islands, how it was home to the Royal Navy Grand Fleet and the part this fleet, its battleships in particular, played in the war. Episode 2 looks at the U-Boat menace and Scotland's part in combating that.
Interesting and informative. With expert narration by David Hayman and insightful interviews with historians and relatives of sailors who served in WW1, even a military buff like me found out new things.
Some useful visits to other locations, eg museum ships, that help complete the picture.
On the negative side, Hayman is prone to hyperbole, over- dramatisation and maybe trying to make everything Scottish-centric. Not a major issue though.
