'The Room' of Christmas films?
meganwolf-0571019 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Once you accept this is going to be terrible, it's kind of entertaining to spot the weirdly composited shots, inconsistent lighting, odd digressions, and places where Ed Asner and the dog were clearly filmed completely separately from any other actors. If you liked The Room, you can probably enjoy this. Can you drive to the North Pole? Sure! Is it a good idea to smuggle a criminal drifter into Russia? There are no repercussions! Why is Elvis there? Who knows! Did it need an epilogue? No, not at all! Shoutout to the one animated elf amongst a mix of child elves and miniaturized adults in the nightmare fever dream of Santa's Workshop.

This movie is awful
victoriamcafee30 December 2018
This was the WORST movie I have ever seen. I picked this out at redbox thinking it would be a cute Christmas movie for my kids and I to watch but we didnt even make it half way through before my kids who are 9 & 6 were begging to watch something else. The cgi was awful and the acting was even worse. The whiney sound of the little girl's voice was pretty bad. I would not recommend this movie. Save your money.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!
sharktoothxxx13 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There is no way anyone in their right mind could possibly believe this is good. It has awful actors who can't even seem to talk naturally let alone professionally (they literally sound like they are reading off the script for the first time as they are speaking on screen). It also premieres Horrid CGI, made even worse by the fact that most of it is unnecessary like the little elf, or lazy like the clipping of snowflake's thighs over the fireplace. In the end this movie is a chore to get through that you can literally feel yourself getting dumber as you watch. Watch elf with your children instead.

Terrible acting

I rarely expect child actors to be any good but even the adults are terrible. Everyone is super robotic and nothing flows nicely. Even my Santa obsessed 2 year old said it was boring

Christmas is not a platform for climate change
Angel170822 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was badly done, badly acted, including Ed Asner, who was really showing his age. The story was not believable and I just can't imagine a 300 year old elf with braces! Adding the sob story about the kleptomaniac who stole their luggage might work in a better film but not this one. Christmas and a jolly Santa go together but not in this film. Whatever were they thinking of? To top it off, or finish as was the case, a message about climate change was included and the little girl promised to fight global warming, which I am sure she had no understanding of. In all, a massive disappointment and I don't recommend wasting time on it!

The only pull this movie has is, Ed Asner. The rest of the actors sucked. Story line is terrible. Not an ideal christmas movie. The lady elves looked like hookers. Just HORRIBLE.
vsmith-1529130 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, this movie was one of the worst movies i have ever seen. Not just because it is just boring, it is very boring, but the actors did a terrible job in general. Not good actors in this movie at all. How do people drive to the North Pole? They don't. That is what the makers of this movie obviously think.

Many more unrealistic events happened, too.

Another thing that they definitely did a horrible job at was the GRAPHICS. For sure. That was what i noticed first. Everything was unrealistic. For example, when the big giant snow globe showed up in front of everyone at the North Pole, it looked extremely fake. Or the dancing elves by the fireplace.

You also could just easily identify that the backgrounds a lot of the time were paintings. Also the reindeer, when flying in the sky, all looked fake. All just edited in not well at all. Just terrible CGI.

Do NOT waste your money on this movie, horrible Christmas movie in my opinion.

A cinimatic Masterpice.
dumcatguy-1783816 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is so good, it truly tells a story of our time. This film is one of the most stunning depictions of Santa Claus to ever exist, and the first film i know to get some of the more obscure details about him right, such as that god-alien's worldwide broadcasting system.

This movie depicts a harrowing chapter in history as Santa accidentally steals a grand wizard-dog that once belonged to Nancy Reagan. His family, desperate for their beloved dog, must venture to Canada and beyond to save him. The raw emotion in this film is incredible.

When the gang finally makes it to North Pole, Alaska, the movie soars to entirely new heights. There they meet one of Santa's Elves, who help restore the dad's faith in Christmas in what can only be called one of the greatest scenes in film. In a haunting demonstration of Santa's god-alien spacetime powers, he warps time and space to show the dad his power.

The final act is nothing short of amazing. The family meets a guy who broke into their car, and decides to take him along after they learn he saved a family from a fire. With the elf's help, they enter an obscure splinter of the Soviet Union that seems to managed by the good Alien-Lord himself. They let the family past to the north pole, but disaster strikes! Their car careens off a icy cliff, and the viewer is led to believe that they plummeted to their deaths.

Had the movie ended there, it would have already been a behemoth of cinema. But it continues! The elf manages to save their lives, and the cars flies off to Santa's well secured base. The move culminates in a shocking, beautiful conclusion, which I won't spoil.

I cannot wait to see more from this studio. If you have not seen this movie, I implore you to do so ASAP!!!!

Wonderful family Christmas movie with Ed Asner as Santa!
celebritymanagericm-3347822 December 2022
It's refreshing to see a genuine film not a big budget Hollywood cookie cutter film that lacks spirit. Well, this film has that Christmas spirit. The legendary multi Emmy Award winning Ed Asner takes the helm as Santa along with his charismatic ingenue side kick Elf Snowflake played by Yvette Rachelle with a sweet cuteness that made you overlook some lacking big budget special effects of the film. The Dad was silly and the little girl a bit goofy but it-all seamlessly worked. Eric Roberts has a cameo too. This film talks about global warming but its a sad reality today we all face so haters just fix the planet instead of complaining about global warming... I would like to give these producer a big budget and see them make a sequel. If you are a dog lover this film is for you. If you love Elves & Santa this film is really for you. And if you love Christmas this film is especially for you. The film has heart and will make you laugh or sing along to Dolly Parton songs. Its one of my go to Holiday films now!

Santa Stole Our Dog
njveres18 January 2024
I absolutely loved this movie and Suzie was the whole show she absolutely nailed it!! I have watched it over and over such a wholesome entertaining movie. I wish I could tell her how good she was and her parents have to be so proud of her. I hope if she liked acting she should continue as she is very good. Was nice to see a cute movie and loved how she talked and talked so sweet and always smiling so adorable. I haven't seen such a good entertaining movie like this in a long time. I thought Ed Asner played a great Santa Sad Ed Asner passed RIP!! I am hoping this review will be submitted thank you.

Entertaining as long as you don't look for flaws
vchimpanzee31 December 2023
If Santa Claus is real, then people shouldn't be surprised if things don't make sense, right? Well, even the various TV series with witches or super powers have rules. It bothered me for certain things not to make sense that should have, but really, the problems with this movie shouldn't take away from the entertainment value. I'll focus on the positives.

It's a fun story if you just accept that it all makes sense.

Ed Asner makes a good Santa Claus. Not the best, but a good one. When he is tired, he is quite convincing. It's obvious Asner is old, but in the scenes where he isn't tired, let's say he's still got it.

I'm not familiar with any of the other actors. Samuel Portugal stands out as an elf who has somehow gotten separated from the North Pole. Carole Stoller is great as Carol, Mrs. Claus.

Elaine Partnow is good as the grandmother who somehow doesn't want to leave the far north. Yves Bright mostly makes a good father, and Chase Pollock has the right amount of attitude as a young skeptical teen. Lexi Golden is adorable and spunky as the little girl who believes, and she shows talent in many of her scenes, though sometimes she's more like a real little girl than an actress.

Carrie Schroeder is entirely too serious for the most part, which is appropriate, but she shows a loving side.

If you like dogs (I don't) then I suppose the scene at the animal shelter is cute. Lots of dogs wanting to be adopted. And one in particular has this face that I assume makes people like him. I wouldn't know. He seems lovable, I guess.

The scenery up north is great. The workshop and elf costumes are quite colorful. "Elfis" is funny. The elves who talk apparently are on helium.

And there is an environmental message. Remember, the Arctic ice is melting.

Some of the songs are good. Dolly Parton has one song which some people will like. I can't say it's my taste, but you have to like Dolly. However, the first two songs and the one with the closing credits are terrible in my opinion. Christmas music just should not sound like that, and lyrics about Christmas just won't get it done.

Definitely a movie for the whole family, with a TV-G rating. There is one convincingly scary scene. Suzie screams really well. But you know it will turn out all right, so that's fine. There is also a description of a terrible event but it doesn't bother Suzie.

Now I just have to mention the negatives. Who casually drives across the frozen north in a car that isn't quite dependable? Towns aren't that close together so if you get stranded, you're in real trouble. But this doesn't matter to the script writers, and I guess if you have to have the events that take place, you have to take liberties.

Nathan has a beard and a mustache one minute, and just five o'clock shadow the next. Okay, this may be believable. Maybe he doesn't want to be clean shaven. And that trip across the north? It is dark one minute, the sun is out the next, and then it is dark again. Well, we are near the North Pole. Oh, and somehow the westernmost point in Alaska is also the northernmost. If you know Alaska geography, you know that's not true. Also, even if the car supposedly has heat, why is Suzie in short sleeves? And isn't a lot colder than it seemed in the Yukon and that part of Alaska at Christmas? I won't even ask why if you finally find out the North Pole is in the ocean, why are you still driving?

All of this seems minor when it is a fun story. It's supposed to be silly, and it is that, and meaningful at times too.
