From the notorious play in Robert W. Chambers’ The King in Yellow all the way up to Sadako’s viral videotape, horror writers have been fascinated with cursed media since time immemorial. After all, the idea that a piece of art can be powerful enough to affect the real world is a compelling thought in and of itself, especially when you consider that this also applies to works of evil.
That’s why it makes sense that there are so many scary movies about curses that spread through paintings, music and even video games. However, as a lifelong cinephile, I’ve always been fascinated by meta horror stories that explore the consequences of cursed films. With that in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the scariest cursed films in horror, as movies don’t necessarily have to be real in order to scare you.

Rafael Kapelinski’s drama “Budapest Diaries” wrapped shooting in Budapest this week. The Polish-Hungarian coproduction is set in 1981, when the political and economical crisis worsened in Poland, and many people travelled to Hungary where the repression was less severe, according to Film New Europe.
Kapelinski is a London-based writer-director, a graduate of the U.K.’s National Film and Television School and the London Film School. In 2017 he was awarded the Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for his debut feature “Butterfly Kisses,” a British production.
“Budapest Diaries,” written by Kapelinski, tells a touching story about the relationship between 11-years-old Irek and his mother, Hanna. She claims they are travelling so that Irek can see a more beautiful and colorful world. He eventually discovers that the motive for their journey and the adult world are far more complex than he might have ever imagined.

Welcome to the latest edition of our regular crowdfunding feature here on Nerdly – Back This! – where we take a look at some of the cool content taking the crowdfunding route on sites such as Indiegogo and Kickstarter. This time we’re taking a look at 2 different campaigns, one for a comic book based wrestling federation and the other a new horror movie from the people behind The Special.
Championship Wrestling League #1
Championship Wrestling League is a brand new wrestling promotion, except it’s not on your TV or on YouTube, it’s in a comic book. Pretty much combining two of our favourite things (besides movies) that we love here at Nerdly! The Kickstarter campaign, which ends this week, is for the first issue in a five issue arc that will showcase the Cwl roster as well as follow the feud between Cwl Champion King Terrance King and Scotty Sundown...

A brief preamble. This is a piece about my favourite films from the last ten years. Not the “best”. These are simply the films that I’ve enjoyed the most; the ones which have moved me the most, thrilled me the most. I’ll start with some reflections and honourable mentions, before moving onto my highly subjective list.
Outside the comic book juggernaut, franchise cinema had a shaky ride during the 2010s. But for every pointless Godzilla sequel, Universal Monsters false start, or extra nail in the Terminator coffin, there was a glimmer of gold. Sam Mendes’ Skyfall (2012) was an exceptionally intelligent and stirring James Bond instalment, and comfortably the best of a sometimes-uncomfortable franchise. And Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) was everything I want from a blockbuster: gorgeous, smart, fun, thoughtful, and philosophically substantial.
But I think I’m with Mr Scorsese on the comic...

Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favourite” is leading the field in what looks like a banner year for the British Independent Film Awards, but amid the celebrations, producers are grappling with unprecedented change.
The BIFAs are a bellwether for the U.K. biz. “We see it as a health check on what things are looking like — there is always a lot of talk of trying to build a platform for newer filmmakers and to make the industry more representative of the nation — and what this does is give a snapshot of where are,” Bifa board member Deena Wallace says.
Film4’s head of creative Ollie Madden is impressed by the spread of films this year and the awards’ overall development. “In the past there has been a little bit of a tension between wanting to retain its indie spirit and wanting to be a slick-enough and heavyweight enough awards ceremony to attract the [major] talent,...
