Warning: Spoilers
Garfield? I am a fan of garfield! I look at the comics, Play his games, Watch his movies, (Most of them sucked, But THIS ONE.. was decent. And the best one even.

Chris pratt didn't do bad as garfield, Speaking of garf, Lets talk about the characters,

Characters 7/10: Garfield acts like himself And not like a goddamn gangster that likes to dance (live action garfield) he breaks the fourth wall, hates spiders, loves to eat, And wake up jon, And likes lasanga, (of course) But Hold up! Garfield is basically a punching bag midway the film and he likes to complain alot (like gumball for example) and he is sometimes kind off stupid, AND I BARELY SAW HIM SLEEP! Yep, Garfield barely sleeps in this film, And there are false statements like garfield saying He's never jumped, what do you mean? In the cartoons you've jumped alot, he's annoying midway but luckily becomes bearable in the end again.

Onto odie, WOAH he's different, so odie still is a slobbering dog in the film, But he's that one character that does everything (like gromit for example) and he's smarter, and surprisingly never asked garfield to throw the bone for him, neither was he called stupid or was kicked from the table, Basically he takes the deuteragonist role as he is always there in the adventure with garfield.

Jon? Oh... Well he doesnt get involved in the adventure alot, He atleast acts like his goofy self and is a guy with no friends, Until (Baby garfield came) Since he waited too long for his father Vic and got too hungry, So he started eating everything in the restaurant, After this, Jon becomes a major character calling cellphone numbers to look for his pets, You do not see him flirt with women. Or do something clumsy

And as for the other characters, Vic is the tritagonist and garfield's father, otto is a grumpy bull Who's love interest is a cow, Jinx is a white cat who likes milk, And the main antagonist of the film who wants vic dead, She asks Garfield, Odie and vic to go too the milk factory Which is basically the plot of the film, We'll get to it later, Roland is a dog who is basically the sidekick of jinx Alongside this other dog who end up becoming good guys in the end battle,

For the rest, Liz only appears twice, Nermal appears once (at the ending sequence of the film) and doesn't talk since its basically a cameo appearance I suppose.. Arelene doesn't appear at all! Couldn't she have been the love interest of garfield in the film?

7 huh? Well the reason why its a seven is because of the fact that the original garfield characters dont get much focus on, The movie focuses more on the new characters that we dont even know. Yea the OG garfield characters have more charm unfortunately, I kinda liked jinx though, But she barely made a joke.

Now onto the plot

Plot/Storyline: 5/10 The storyline is pretty weak, but the plot is decent, Garfield and odie get kidnapped while getting a midnight snack And brought into a place where they get hung up by the legs, Until a mysterious figure saves him, That mysterious figure turns out to be his dad, They go on an adventure to get to a milk factory for jinx, Until vic betrays the cat and dog duo just to get kidnapped by jinx, Garfield notices that vic betrayed garfield just to save him So garfield goes too save vic with odie, garfield fights off the antagonists with italian food, the action is very good, And was pretty thrilling, Expect emotional scenes as well.

Comedy: 6/10 The movie's humour focuses ALOT on slapstick, Like I said before, Garfield is the movie's punching bag So you'll see him go through very much here, Most of the slapstick is funny But it gets very repetitive, The dialogue thats meant to be funny is very mediocre, As most people in my theater only chuckled at the dialogue, they laughed alot at the slapstick though, The movie felt very low in comedy at times, I thought it was gonna be like garfield gets real where there isn't a single joke at all, the jokes midway are very weak (some were a tad bit funny), But get stronger in the end.

Overall: the movie has the garfield spirit, but its weak in storyline and flops midway, but honestly its a good adaptation of the comic strip and atleast better than the other 5 garbage disposal films, But its still a mediocre affair that can only be reccomended to garfield fans.

A frankenstein monster film
jamesbond-282642 May 2024
I have been waiting from this film since it was announced during the pandemic back in 2021 but it suddenly got delayed multiple times and at some point many stuff was leaked before release teasing that something was going wrong during production, after the film finally released I realize I was right. The film feels like a less special Garfield version of The Peanuts Movie which instead commits the same mistakes as Toy Story 4 by getting less focus of the iconic characters like Jon Arbuckle and Nermal over new ones like Garfield's father Vic in a mostly boring robbery storyline that you can feel was chopped during production as many scenes feel disconnected and with weird pacing and tonal issues.

Never thought i would like this, but it is a lot of fun.
michvanbeek3 May 2024
In 1976, the comic called 'Jon' by comic book artist Jim Davis was published locally in the Pendleton Times. The comic was so successful that it was published nationwide under the name Garfield in 1978 and since then the greedy orange cat with a heart of gold has become indispensable. The drawing style was changed in 1984 to a more cartoon--like style as we actually know it well now. In 2002 was one of the most printed comics in the newspaper in 2570 newspapers worldwide with 263 million readers. Now with different animation series and different films we now get to see the second cinema film about the orange hangover. This time voiced by Chris Pratt as Garfield, who of course had a lot of success in recording Mario's voice in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Samuel L. Jackson speaks the voice of Garfield's father Vic and so we can mention a whole bunch of celebrities. In the Dutch version, these are Jim Bakkum and Jörgen Raymann who record the voices of Garfield and his father Vic. Either way, the film promises a lot of fun, fun and action.

With many delays and postponements of the release date, of course due to the pandemic and problems with production, the time has finally come. In a kind of origin--like story telling, we see how a baby Garfield is just left behind by his father Vic. The story actually focuses a lot on that and because of this a main character like Jon is pushed back. When Garfield and his loyal buddy Odie are kidnapped, they end up with the crazy cat Jinx and her two mean service dogs Roland and Nolan. But why is Garfield actually kidnapped out of nowhere? That becomes clear when Vic appears on stage, but of course Garfield doesn't want to know anything about Vic at all. We all understand that leaving Garfield when he was still a kitten had a different reason than that you would think at first glance and that is quite a shame, because it makes the film very predictable for the older viewers. You notice from this that a film like this is really made for an audience under 10 years old, but don't be put off, because apart from that fact, the film is really entertaining for an older audience.

The animation itself is average and nothing more than that. Nowadays it is difficult for most animated films to say anything about it, given that it is most similar in style. Well, well it was not expected in advance that we would get to see an artistic masterpiece, so in that respect the film succeeds in that area with flying colours. The music was a positive point, this was in the hands of composer John Debney and at some points the music was completely reminiscent of the beautiful melancholic sounds that Thomas Newman often makes. In the end, the big picture is crazy fun and you won't be bored for seconds. The humor is good and fun and things like Catflix where Garfield watches cat movies are hilarious. In the end, you have to stay there during the credits for the funny cat movies that continue to play when the credits start rolling.

Garfield has become a successful and funny movie for the whole family. The jokes are fun, the animation is fine and Garfield and Odie get the laughs on their hands very often. Perhaps the predictability of the film could have been a little less, because this actually only makes the film suitable for children up to 10 years old, but well, this is not something you should also care about, because the film is just too fun for that. The animation itself is standard, doesn't excel in anything, but that's fine. The music pops out and from time to time it is reminiscent of a soundtrack that Thomas Newman could have made. Just stay seated at the end credits too because the crazy cat movies that Garfield watches on Catflix make for a last smile on the face.

Just for once
Garfield is a movie to enjoy in the theater just once, but if you were hoping to see something more like Garfield and friends, this may not be the right movie for you. The best is in the beginning and the end. The problem is that after the many laughs of the introduction, the plot suddenly declines, introducing unnecessary secondary characters and the script falls into absurdity. Much of what is shown during these scenes has already been done and told much better in other films of the same genre, so it seems repetitive here. The animation is what is most appreciated and enjoyed in the entire film, and although I liked it, I certainly don't expect a second part.

"The Garfield Movie" is a decent movie, it has fun scenes but it is not wonderful.
jp_917 May 2024
"The Garfield Movie" is a pleasant film without further ado, the script is simple and fun, in addition to containing a well-made family message, however it fails to capture the essence of the animated series "Garfield and Friends" or the sarcasm of the strip comedy by Jim Davis. The actors who lend their voices to give life to the characters do a good job. The computer animation has quality but it would have been better if it had been done with old school style animation. The soundtrack, sound design, and editing all achieve their goal without being of superb quality. "The Garfield Movie" is a decent movie, it has fun scenes but it is not wonderful.

A not-so-good fuzzball
chenp-547084 May 2024
Look, I loved reading the Garfield comics growing up but unfortunately despite a few good moments, it's a bad hairball.

The animation is solid with cute character designs that reflect perfectly to the Garfield comics, setting and environment with good uses of colors, lighting and background designs. The sound design and the soundtrack is pretty good. But that's about it. Storywise, it's messy I suppose. Garfield and Odie are interesting characters however, the movie doesn't give them enough time to shine and includes new characters that are uninteresting and quite unbearable.

The voice performances were okay but Chris Pratt's voice performance is one of the most dullest and lifeless performances ever. I don't dislike Pratt as he's been in some great movies but as Garfield, he really is miscasted.

Sure, there are some okay humor moments and there are some parts that I thought were pretty interesting. But that's all I can say. I brought a few of my relatives siblings to tag along and they enjoyed it, so there's a plus.

Mark Dindal, you made The Emperor's New Groove and Cat's Don't Dance, you can do better then this! Oh wait, you made Chicken Little, never mind.

Fun for all ages
rbeekman3 May 2024
I came to the movie to see the Garfield that I used to love from the comics from when I was a kid, and I definitely got that. The drawing style of all the characters was very recognizable and the slapstick humor that I wanted to see was present throughout the whole movie.

I must say the voice of Chris Pratt was better than expected and I think it did the character justice. Not a single moment did it not come across as unbelievable. The other voice actors were perfect and wonderfully exaggerated at moments, which fits the movie perfectly.

Jon didn't have a very big role in the movie, unfortunately, but when he was there he was like Jon was supposed to be. A bit goofy and funny.

Odie, however, was not very much like the character in the comics in my opinion. He used to be an abused sidekick that was basically always in the way and very stupid, but here he was the Robin that did everything for Garfield and he got credit for it as well. Modern times I suppose.

The plot is far fetched, the story is weird and has holes, but all that doesn't matter because it technically is a children's movie. I enjoyed the jokes and the animation quite a lot and so did my kids.

Don't compare it to the 2004 movie.

It's really for the little ones
saolivaresm5 May 2024
Directed by Mark Dindal and starring voices by Chris Pratt and Samuel L. Jackson.

Synopsis

World-famous Garfield, the Monday-hating, lasagna-loving house cat, is about to have an adventure in the wild outside world! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father - the scruffy stray cat Vic - Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced to abandon their perfect, pampered lives by joining Vic in a hilarious and very risky heist.

A new adventure of the pasta-loving cat is what hits theaters this week. The new Garfield animated film is a film that is designed only for the youngest members of the family, with childish humor and a truly harmless adventure for everyone.

It is a correct animated film that does not know how to take advantage of the qualities of a character who has much more grace than what is given to him in this film. If we take into account that the adult audience will also see this film, it is precisely that audience that is left well separated from the final result. A film that is difficult to connect with and halfway through you start to get bored, even though it is a fairly short film and fast in events, but it is very designed for the little ones, it is difficult for the older ones to get hooked on the story.

Garfield works because he is a fun character, but he still doesn't manage to have his best adventure on screen unlike Odie, who incredibly has more brilliant moments in the film without saying a single word. A film designed to fulfill and generate quick and easy money, but as a new proposal that comes to give us something more refreshing from our beloved cat, this is definitely not the best option.

In any case, it has fun moments and such a positive and friendly story that at least you leave with a feeling of affection and positivity towards the world. A film for the little ones in the house and a time of entertainment once again enjoying a character that continues to accompany generations for decades.

Garfield n the last cheddar

Warning: Spoilers
The fat cat in hes third movie, like him a lot went there were the night special they always aired from we need lots candy Halloween to the going spend some time with the family Christmas, but that always like is street cat fighting gang reunited with he family, one best.

Now in this installment we get to meet he's abandon by he dad Vic, which they have pull a heist for an nihilistic white cat name Jinx, for one thousand gallons of milk, only not knowing they re been setup.

Now gonna rant here cause the cg visual they re not nearly identical to the comic strip of Jim Davis Some of the slapstick works like the scene catching the train or bridge scene too. But overall wish they went what the third Smurf movie went Doing justice do Pierre Culliford.

Now where it sells goes to the Mondays jokes that always been a gimmick to the character sometimes they over exploit but works then there the wrongly hench dog that really give laughs when he grab Garfield just dripping he skin on him, the dialogue that he has with Otto is the funniest of the movie specially on heist plan scenes those pause stop, there good lasagna good.

Sorry can't critic on voices acting cause saw it dub in Spanish, hey welcome to the land of the bean.

So conclude is alright film it got laughs n slapstick but the heart is was missing for a Garfield purist till remembering when I saw it Saturday morning cartoons, the kids will so we you, as for me, Working on please do my work please Monday.

Not Garfield and not entertaining
mattybrie-8481512 May 2024
Wow that was a painful 90 minutes. It felt a lot a longer. Even my son was bored to tears and he can turn an empty cardboard box into an adventure. Technically the cat looked like Garfield but the Garfield character was decidedly absent, and the entire domestic premise of the Garfield series. Jon was demoted to a side character, no Liz, no Nermal, pizza seemed to take precedence over lasagne! Read the comics, watch the 90s cartoons, maybe even the Bill Murray films. Well, not the Tail of Two Kitties. That was awful. Nearly as awful as this. 33 characters to go: It was poo, poop, poopy poo. Done.

very very bad
spunchyborb12 May 2024
Saló genuinely had more funny moments and was easier to sit through. Also is it just me or is it kinda messed up to make a kids' movie where the dad who abandoned his son as a baby comes back years later, has a completely reasonable explanation, loved him the whole time, and just becomes an active figure in his life again? Like, doesn't that feel like it would give a lot of kids false hope? Maybe im reading too much into a movie that references keyboard cat in the first five minutes but when a movie gives you absolutely nothing for an hour and a half it's hard not to overthink it. I miss when movies had real voice actors.

A short and cute Movie
edleKlinge12 May 2024
(First of all: i want to excuse myself if my english sounds in this Review a little broken but it's my first Time writting a Review and i hope that you can forgive me about grammar Mistakes.)

So i decided to go to the Movie Theather after a long Time and all though it isn't something like Barbie or Oppenheimer, it was really fun to watch with all Jokes and Giggles while being wholesome or cute in the other Direction, all though the Experiences may very from what you are expactin from this Movie.

If you expect an emotional Rollercoaster with deep and hidden Messages from this Movie, is Garfield defentily the wrong Choice to go into. However if you just want to have fun for 90-100 Minutes with some small springeled emotional Drama here and there, while being not too serious about it with the Rest of the Movie just being filled with funny Bits and with an okayish Story, than you will enjoy Garfield.

It's not something like the World saw for the first Time ever before, however it got me intersted into Garfield and i hope they continue making another Movie with him where he can explore with his Surroundings a bit more.

Thank you for reading and i hope you liked the Review! Tried to keep it spoilerfree as much as i could!

fast paced at first but it gets better!
pinkfluffyflareon6 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the movie was great, nothing out of the ordinary but still good! It's about Garfield and Odie getting kidnapped by a cat that wants to get revenge on Garfield dad (Vic) Vic saves Garfield and Odie and then they made a deal with the cat that kidnapped them. They need to bring a bunch of milks to her and if they don't she will do something bad to them. The only thing I disliked was how fast paced it was in the beginning but after a while it gets better. Wish they gave the human characters some more screen time tho (Jon and Liz are some examples) but otherwise very good movie. I like it abit more mostly because I went with my brother and my best friend.

Garfield origins
glori149112 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Since I was little I watched the Garfield animated series and read the cartoons. My sister also loved Garfiel. This movie is really for the whole family, it has dramatic moments, a lot of comedy (I actually laughed a lot) and it has action, she tells us. . the true story of what happened with Garfield's dad (who had never really dated before). It shows us how Garfield met Jon (who is a very lonely person) and how his world changes with 2 pets (the truth is they change our lives), and we initially see how Garfield has a trauma due to his father's abandonment, until they kidnap to Garfield and Otto to settle a debt with Garfiel's father (who sees him again 4-5 years later), initially Garfield has a lot of resentment, but as the movie progresses we realize the true story. It is a film that tells us about abandonment, adoption, loneliness, family, new beginnings, forgiveness, resentment, and animal abuse. I really recommend it, it's a movie to pass the time, have fun and analyze it a little deeper.

Great little catflix
warpgiga12 May 2024
I watched this with my 9 year old daughter, her first 3D movie, and our first 4DX experience. The movie itself is pretty good, with a quite simple main story and some side stories. I was okay entertained by the movie it self, but I am pleased it had the 4DX as an extra attraction, as it definitely helped peak my interest for the movie. The movie seemed to have scenes specifically made for that, with many scenes that included roller coaster and windy rides, such as flying through tubes and riding on top of a train, there was also rain and lightning scenes that made use of all the 4DX features.

My ratings: Movie only: 7 Movie + 3D + 4DX: 8

Daughters rating: 10.
