I wanted more reality and less Mission Impossible
villiram22 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was very excited to watch this movie. Having lived the recent earthquake last year, and having been trapped in a building during it, I needed closure and I thought this movie was going to be it, I even had to mentally prepare in order to not break down. And I didn't.

If the earthquakes in 2017 weren't so recent I would have maybe liked it, but I now know this was far from being remotely close to reality. The earthquake scene was ok, I felt it was a little too dragged, the truth is, things just fall down, it doesn't take 5 minutes and you don't have massive holes showing all the way down to the basement. It. just. falls. and cracks. I'll be honest, I was kinda glad this was too hollywoodesque because it didn't affect how a realistic version would have.

But my main problem was the rest: The movie was more about Kuno Becker adventuring through an underground maze and less about the actual earthquake. I saw guns, a man climbing an elevator chute, a corruption plot about a businessman cleaning his name, a planned explosion, a flood where they almost drown (its an earthquake, suddenly nothing was broken and it was flooded?), and magically the room underground is spacious and open and intact.... Where were the victims? the hundreds of people helping? We maybe saw 4 people in it...

I really needed this to be what I expected it to be. Instead I got an action movie with a few hints of a historic event worth telling.

Bad cinematography, bad acting and not much union as the title suggests.

Awful!

Everything in this movie is depressing. the performances, the script poorly grounded and developed, a lousy and punishable direction and deplorable photography. The film does not manage to maintain a theme, it does not fulfill its objective of remembering the victims of the earthquake and all reference to this is forced. Terrible film, a waste of time to see it. 24/1 000

A moving and touching tribute.
scoobert_sean24 September 2018
A very well portrayed tragedy which still lingers within the hearts of Mexican people, from 1985 and 2017 earthquakes. A film which really touches and moves the feelings transmitting the pain, bravery and hope of all those people who lived them. Nowadays people, in this case critics, are so cynical. Saying that the movie is too dramatic and predictable. Wake up people. This was a real tragedy. I can barely imagine all the s7ffering and drama people who survived and witnessed it felt. We obviously knnow what happened, but the movie delivers great performances from documented information. Besides it has one of the best disaster sequence ever made in Mexico. Don't be so superficial when you see and review a film. Live it.

Open sensibility, close view of what happened in Mexico City earthquake
jasheagler20 September 2020
A historical review of what happened in Mexico City eartquake in 1985, many of them never telling before in a movie, aspects of life in 80s, open sensibility when I saw, a good reproduction of locations, visual effects and makeup, maybe could be better without a tv style of film.

As mexican, I just love this film.

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I have to say that I didn't live that time when earthquake shook Mexico City, but in fact people were not ready for that. Ordinary citizens without rescue knowledge went out to help each other only with the conviction to rescue people trapped inside the buildings. I'm concerned of that, all the countryis concerned of that. Not only in 1985 did the only earthquake occur, also in 2017... but we were prepared for that. This movie shows the horror and a literal impact of how the catastrophe happened, with a touch of love, family, friendship of the mexican brotherhood. The joint histories within the film unite the bonds that finally end in the rescue of the people inside the buildings. Never forgetting what happened. An endearing movie, literal, exciting, sad and eventually if you're Mexican like me, you'll know what I'm talking about.
