Stars: Jonathan Tufvesson, Rocío Muñoz, Sydney White, Margaux Billard, Hal Yamanouchi, Aaron Stielstra | Written by Vinicio Canton, Stefano Ceccarelli, Chiara Barbo | Directed by Giorgio Bruno
They Talk is an Italian-made horror that riffs on the likes of Brian De Palma’s Blow Out, and sees Alex (Jonathan Tufvesson), a sound engineer, who accidentally records mysterious voices: disturbing messages from the afterlife who warn him against imminent and terrifying danger. Seeking answers he tracks down Professor Hasegawa, an expert on paranormal phenomena.
Little does he know that his old friend Amanda (Rocío Muñoz), with whom he shares a terrible secret, re-emerges from his past also looking for help. The appearance of the young woman triggers chilling paranormal phenomena that leave behind a trail of corpses. Is she the danger the voices of the dead speak about?
They Talk is the second film in recent months to feature strange paranormal activity caught on a recording device.

Prano Bailey-Bond’s psychological horror “Censor,” which opens Sundance’s Midnight section Thursday, is a twisted, bloody love letter to the low-budget horror films of the 1980s. Variety spoke to the young British helmer, who was recently named as one of Variety’s “10 Directors to Watch.”
In “Censor,” a young woman, Enid, is seen at work as a film censor in Britain in the 1980s, a time when the growing popularity of VHS players had led to a boom in cheaply made horror films, which soon acquired the nickname “video nasties” in the tabloid press. After a gruesome killing, which the press claims was inspired by a horror film, Enid finds herself in the eye of a media storm, as she had passed the film for distribution.
Bailey-Bond places the media’s “hysterical reaction” to these “video nasties” against the backdrop of Margaret Thatcher’s Britain, a time of social and political strife.

Hello! It’s been a little while since we’ve had a new Catalog From The Beyond, hasn’t it? To be honest, in a year when it felt like my brain cells were squeezing out of my head like a tube of toothpaste, I had to take a break from some of the workload. But with the dawning of the New Year, I’m ready to hit the reset button and dive back into the Catalog.
I think it only fair to ease into things, however, so the following take won’t be the spiciest one I’ve ever put forth: Ken Foree seems like a pretty cool dude. After winning our hearts as the stoic Peter in George A. Romero’s classic Dawn of the Dead, he’s stayed there pretty much ever since in movies like From Beyond, Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Lords of Salem, and...

"We're designed to operate alongside you. We couldn't do what we do without you." HaZ is back! Sci-fi and VFX maestro Hasraf "HaZ" Dulull (the director of The Beyond and 2036 Origin Unknown) has returned with an exciting new project called Battlesuit - the initial proof-of-concept pilot is now available to watch online. This project is a bit unique because it was created entirely with the Unreal Engine using a real-time animation approach. Razer sponsored the project and is promoting its release. Battlesuit was written by Neil Gibson who adapted a story in The Theory by David Court. The Theory is a sci-fi anthology comic book series of short sharp punchy stories revolving around an astroarchaeologist, working to save our future, and a time traveler, working to save our past. The astroarchaeologist discovers the weapons which destroyed an entire civilization. The performances aren't that great, but this is all about...

The Knights of Ren are one of the major mysteries set up in previous movies that we’re fully expecting to be explored in this December’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. All the signs are pointing to Kylo’s acolytes featuring in a much bigger role in Episode IX than their brief cameo in The Force Awakens, but there are various theories going around about how exactly they’ll be utilized.
For one, it’s widely speculated that the Knights will turn against their master for some reason. Again, there are a few ideas flying around the fandom about why that could be, but ScreenRant has now come up with a thorough explanation that sounds very possible.
To begin with, they point to the moment in the trailer which shows Kylo besting a Knight of Ren in combat. Clearly, they’ll be at odds in the movie, for some unknown reason.

In the blood-soaked wake of the frenzy over Messed Up Puzzles’ trio of Grindhouse classics—Cannibal Holocaust, Pieces, and The Beyond—comes a gruesome twosome from Blue Underground with a special treat from that company’s owner-cum-Maniac director, William Lustig.
Maniac isn’t just a much-demanded puzzle garroted from the original controversial theatrical poster…It’s also a Willy Wonka-style hunt for a one-of-a-kind collectible. Out of this limited run of 500 puzzles, William Lustig has hand-signed 1 in 25 (somewhere between the blood and the bulge), only to be revealed on the puzzle itself once assembled! Everyone else still gets a jigsaw puzzle with serious mommy issues, cut from 1000 pieces that need to be locked in the closet.
The other half of this double header is Lucio Fulci’s masterpiece, Zombie, a monster of a jigsaw puzzle that is going to eat you! (Or at least your sanity.) The beloved face...

Sony's Screen Gems has partnered with Scott Glassgold's Ground Control to bring the new Screen Gems' Horror Lab to life. The lab is an ambitious initiative that will develop the next generation of horror films by turning strong proof of concepts from filmmakers into features. Already known for turning shorts into successful features, Ground Control seems like the right fit to spearhead this new initiative. The company's success stories include the recent release of Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell's sci-fi feature, Prospect, starring Pedro Pascal, Sophie Thatcher, and Jay Duplass, as well as HaZ Dulull's The Beyond. "With proof-of-concept emerging as a reliable source material for feature films, the aim is to work with filmmakers at the incubation stage to help actualize their concepts and...

By now, we’ve been privy to enough reports of the Knights of Ren featuring in Star Wars: Episode IX for the claim to sound genuinely credible, but according to the sources of Making Star Wars, not everything we’ve heard is correct.
In a report published earlier this weekend, it’s asserted that the recent rumor of Matt Smith playing one of the Knights of Ren is, in fact, false. On top of that, the report says that the group will not be all or mostly female, but acknowledges that this rumor may have been rooted in the production’s use of female stunt performers for the Knights. Lastly, it’s alleged that the Knights will not be the main villains of the film, but that a major threat is still expected to emerge from something called The Beyond.

Square Enix's next RPG is a story of life and death called Oninaki.
The Square Enix team behind I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear have announced their next RPG project, Oninaki. This upcoming action-rpg will be released for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC sometime this summer.
As you might imagine given this game's pedigree, Oninaki's premise is a bit strange. It takes place in a land where people are not able to properly honor the dead due to a belief that it's our grief which binds the spirits of the dead to our world and prevents them from moving on to the next. However, it seems that some souls get lost in the transition between worlds. You play a Watcher who is responsible for helping shepherd the dead to "The Beyond."

The title for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX has reportedly been leaked. This possible title comes from a Reddit user who apparently came across it by digging into the code of the official Star Wars website.
Making Star Wars has also shared new details regarding a new big bad villain that will be appearing in the movie.
This information is far from confirmed, but there’s always that slight chance that it could be legit. Before I share it I’m going to throw up a spoiler warning because sometimes you don’t want things spoiled for you!
The title of the film is certainly one that would be a good one for closing out the saga. The possible title is:

While we wait for Lucasfilm to finally drop some official info on Star Wars: Episode IX, a recent rumor shared by Making Star Wars has started to get a little traction, and fans are already coming forward with their theories on what exactly the report could be telling us about the story to come.
To recap, Msw’s sources allege that the film will see Kylo Ren face a new threat that emerges from “The Beyond.” It’s also said that the Knight of Ren will be coming back from this mysterious place, and that danger from The Beyond will serve as a motivating factor in bringing Kylo and Rey back together so that the arc of their relationship can further progress.
Obviously one of the biggest questions this report will leave fans with is what exactly The Beyond could be, and in a new piece from MovieWeb, a few suggestions are offered.

The Knights of Ren have factored into enough Star Wars: Episode IX rumors and reports for their return to actually sound fairly plausible, and according to one recent piece of alleged intel, there’s a reason why this formidable group has been absent for most of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.
Making Star Wars reports of a new threat that emerges from “The Beyond” and reveals itself to Kylo Ren, and while the details don’t go much further than that, one of the site’s sources also claimed that “it was really important that the Knights of Ren have returned from The Beyond.” Moreover, the leak mentions that the danger from The Beyond will be a motivating factor in the messy relationship between Rey and Kylo, which only figures seeing how this pair’s dynamic is pretty much the emotional center of the Star Wars saga right now.

A crazy Star Wars Episode IX rumor suggests that we'll finally see the Knights of Ren again and learn where they've been.
Ever since they were first introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Knights of Ren have remained one of the most enigmatic groups of bad guys in the Star Wars universe. While they appeared in a flashback in Episode VII, Kylo Ren's minions were nowhere to be found in The Last Jedi. Where the heck were they when the new Supreme Leader of the First Order was about to face off against Luke Skywalker on Crait?

After George Romero’s remarkable international success with Dawn of the Dead (entitled Zombi in Italy), the Italians, always ready to hop on the celluloid bandwagon, rushed to churn out tons of unofficial sequels to the film as well as their own originals, just so long as “zombie,” “living dead,” or something similar was featured in the title. Thus, we have films such as Hell of the Living Dead, Burial Ground, and Zombi Holocaust, as well as the “sort-of” zombie film, Nightmare City, along with many others. But the first of the zombie films to hit theaters after Dawn of the Dead was Zombie.
Though the title certainly was a blatant ploy to ride the coattails of Dawn of the Dead, director Lucio Fulci always chafed at the notion the film itself was a rip-off of Romero’s smash hit. I won’t go into the arguments here because frankly,...

It’s been a while since I’ve taken a Fulci out for a spin; frankly the latter part of his career has generally been met with the indifference (and occasional disdain) afforded his fellow countryman Dario Argento. Fair? Well, art is subjective, but even strict apologists have a hard time defending some late in the game efforts. Which brings us to Aenigma (1987), Fulci’s take on Argento, and a fine last gasp of electric madness.
Distributed by Filman International late December in France, Aenigma didn’t see release in Fulci’s homeland until August of ’88; by this point his films weren’t even making it stateside anymore, and it didn’t show up in North America until late October the following year for a limited run. When DVDs started making noise in the early ‘00s, Aenigma was finally brought to a wider audience who promptly gave it the awkward smile of a disappointed parent.

With Halloween now just a week away, I thought that for today’s installment of “From Streams to Screams,” we should focus our attention on some of the incredible horror movies that have come out of numerous countries from around the world. From Japan to New Zealand to Ireland, Italy, China, France, Turkey, Australia, and many more, it’s always great to experience how other cultures celebrate our favorite genre through the artistry of filmmaking.
With that in mind, here’s a list of 26 fantastic international fright flicks available to stream through platforms such as Netflix, Shudder, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Vudu, and Tubi TV, just in time for All Hallows’ Eve.
The Beyond (Streaming on Shudder)
In this gore classic, a woman inherits a hotel built over an entrance to Hell.

Policemen face a night of horror in a subterranean labyrinth after answering a distress call.

All (post-Romero) zombies are cannibals, but not all cannibals are zombies. This is an important distinction to note for your trading card set, as well for discerning Italian horror cinema. As a youth, I thought it was only the undead with a taste for flesh; that is, until I saw Cannibal Holocaust (1980) and Cannibal Ferox (‘81), two sweet and unassuming films where the living sate their hunger by eating douchey interlopers in various jungle settings. The first especially stands out due to a layer of social commentary splashed about, fighting to be seen in between the real animal slayings and crafted carnage. But it’s there and it’s potent; as it is with Cannibal Apocalypse (’80), an allegorical tale of the inner destruction that the Vietnam War wrought on those who survived. That, and a whole lot of flesh ripping.

Craig Zahler) was acquired for North American distribution by Rlje Films. It's been playing the festival circuit and will be getting a Us theatrical and VOD release on August 17th. Having seen the movie at Fantasia, I can say that this movie has some of the most insane and bloody kills ever put on screen, and if you want to see some of that for yourself ahead of August 17th, take a look at the newly released red band trailer:
"The reimagining of the Full Moon Features cult classic stars Thomas Lennon (TV’s “Reno 911!”), Jenny Pellicer (TV’s “Cocaine Godmother”), Nelson Franklin (TV’s “Veep”), Charlyne Yi (This is 40), Michael Pare (Eddie and the Cruisers), and Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator). The iconic Udo Kier (Brawl in Cell Block 99) stars as the titular character.

If your dad was Mario Bava, master of light and originator of the giallo film as we know it, you’d have a hard time following in his footsteps too; yet that is precisely what Lamberto Bava chose to do. He made some good ones right out of the gate: Macabre (1980) and A Blade in the Dark (’83) have their fans, but it was the fantastic Demons (’85) that brought him international attention. One lackluster sequel later and he was more or less relegated to the sidelines, where he found solace in Italian TV; he signed a four picture deal for a series of films under the umbrella High Tension, and the first one out of the gate was The Prince of Terror (’88), which was deemed too gruesome and shelved until 1999. I can understand why, because it does contain several gory set pieces, implied rape, and strong language. Oh, and it’s also insane and entertainingly weird.

How did the idea for ‘The Ultimate Guide to Strange Cinema’ come about originally?
Well like I explain in my foreword I gained a lot of inspiration from fanzines which was where you had to get film education pre-Internet age. Also, this book is sort of a love letter to my VHS renting days at my local mom and pop store. Writing this book brought me right back to being young and sitting in my room devouring every fan zine I could and the excitement of learning about films like The Beyond and going to the rental shop and checking out crazy stuff like Psychos in Love. I wasn’t sure if other fans would also get a nostalgic thrill out of a reference guide, but a number of people have really respond to it, which they consider a lost art.
What can people expect from the book?

There may be a holiday here in the States, but that doesn’t mean this week’s home media releases are taking any time off. In fact, we’ve got a bunch of great new titles and several cult classics coming our way on Tuesday. And for those of you who have been patiently waiting, Arrow Video’s Limited Edition Blu for Wes Craven’s The Last House on the Left finally arrives this week as well.
Other notable releases for July 3rd include the reissue of Call Girl of Cthulhu, Primal Rage, Devilfish aka Monster Shark, The Jurassic Games, and The Lullaby.

"You're living in his world now." Gravitas Ventures has debuted the trailer for one of the sci-fi feature films from VFX designer and up-and-coming filmmaker Hasraf "HaZ" Dulull. This one is titled 2036 Origin Unknown, and it was made and completed before HaZ's other feature film The Beyond (watch the trailer for that), but is being released after. For 2036 Origin Unknown, HaZ cast sci-fi veteran Katee Sackhoff as Mission Controller Mackenzie Wilson. The plot follows her as she assists an artificial intelligence system, called A.R.T.I., to uncover a mysterious object under the surface of Mars that could change the future of our planet as we know it. This has some cool VFX and big space-y moments, but I'm still not completely sold on it. The main AI story seems a bit lackluster overall, but I might still give this a shot anyway. Fire it up below.

Cults. Devil worship. Vengeful ghosts. These tropes are so often seen in horror that it’s become hard to parody them. Director Joko Anwar proves that they still retain the power to scare, however, as long as they’re done well. A remake of the Indonesian remake of Phantasm, released in 1982 under the title Satan’s Slave, Anwar’s vision found impressive success in its home country last year, and a New Orleans screening at the 2018 Overlook Film Festival showed American audiences why this might be. The winner of the festival’s Jury Prize, Anwar gives horror fans something to be excited about—and scared of.
The family at the center of Satan’s Slaves is having a bad week. Their matriarch, a once-famous singer, hasn’t earned royalties in months—and on top of that, she’s bedridden with a morbid illness. Her death kicks off a chain of supernatural occurrences,...

"To find our place in the universe, we must venture beyond our boundaries." Gravitas Ventures debuted this full trailer for the space sci-fi The Beyond, one of the first features from Hasraf 'HaZ' Dulull, who got his start making cool sci-fi short films on Vimeo. We featured a teaser trailer for this earlier in the year, but the film has undergone extensive reshoots and re-edits, and this new trailer is a better look at what HaZ has cooked up. The Beyond is a low-budget sci-fi somewhat based on the idea first introduced in his short Project Kronos - first contact. It's about astronauts going through a wormhole ("The Void") to another part of the universe, who return early, and now everyone wants to know what they found on the other side. The cast includes Nigel Barber, Jane Perry, Brian Deacon, and David Bailie. Sci-fi geeks need to see this. Here's...

I've got a cool trailer for an upcoming indie sci-fi film being made called The Beyond. It looks like an interesting sci-fi thriller that's might be worth checking out. The film was written and directed by Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dullul, who is a veteran VFX artist that worked on The Dark Knight.
The Beyond is based on Dullul’s 2014 short film Project Kronos, which you can watch here. The feature film was announced four years ago, and it's cool to see that it's being released! I really enjoyed the short and I'm looking forward to seeing this feature-length version of it.
The story chronicles a space agency of the near future and its first contact with intelligent life on an interstellar space mission. The astronauts embark on this mission using advances robotics and they travel through a newly discovered wormhole known as the Void.
According to the press release:
Dullul self produced,...
