Borowski and the Lost Girl
Tweekums23 June 2019
This instalment opens with Julia, a young woman, being tied up and left in a basement. She manages to escape and tells the police she believes her brother has murdered her friend Maria. Soon her body is found floating in the harbour. Julia's brother isn't the only suspect; a man who was just been released from prison had a strong motive for revenge. After his release he has been living at a local mosque which it later emerges is also attended by Julia after her conversion to Islam. In the events that follow we learn that the security services are monitoring events in the mosque believing radicalised converts could lead them to senior recruiters in Middle Eastern terrorist groups. Borowski and Brandt will have a tough time as the people in the mosque don't want to talk and the security services don't want their targets learning of the operation... and that is assuming somebody there is responsible for Maria's death.

It seems that every crime series these days has to have an episode where a suspect emerges in the Muslim community who ultimately turns out to be a victim of prejudicial assumptions... so it made a refreshing change that there is something sinister going on involving certain members of that community. This is balanced by some morally dubious actions by the security services and some local bigotry. The central story is interesting with a murder leading us into the world of terrorist recruitment and attempts to counter that. There are some nice twists as the cases develop and good tense moments. Axel Milberg and Sibel Kekilli continue to impress as Borowski and Brandt and guest star Mala Emde really impresses as Julia; the rest of the cast are pretty solid as well. Overall another gripping episode.
