Here we have "Descendants: Genie in a Bottle" and this title tells us already that this is a sing that got released briefly after the successful Disney Channel movie "Descendants". And the ones above the age of 25 will maybe recognize the title here as a cover of Christina Aguilera's song from 1999 performed by Dove Cameron. I have never been a huge Aguilera fan, but this one, her breakthrough song stayed with me for some reason, maybe because it is really catchy. And I enjoy Cameron's version at least as much as Aguilera's, maybe also because I find Cameron infinitely more stunning. I see great potential in her, not just in "Descendants", but she also has a voice that offers more than generic pop music we are seeing all the time these days. And Dove's voice works very well with the song and lyrics, and the subject of course too in reference to her movie. Do not be confused by this being listed as an action film here, it maybe can be considered that too, but it's all about a mix of music and fantasy really with the Aladdin reference. I myself enjoyed the watch and listen here and until now it is my favorite short film from the year 2016. I am glad this is also well-received here on IMDb looking at the rating and even if 3 writers worked on this directorial effort by Jay Martin, it is not a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. It's a great song and a good performance and a fun video with nice sets, costumes and effects. Must see.
