Cute story

I enjoyed the film. But there were a few mistakes. 1. Zoey was not endearing. I could not connect with her at all. 2. The villan had no backstory. 3. The relationship between Zoey and Link was not well established. Please try harder next time.🙂

Decent movie for the family with kids
jmbovan-47-1601737 December 2020
This is a relatively benign movie for the tween kids in your family. The film deals with loss, bullying, and ghosts in a mild fashion. Nothing spectacular here, but it was watchable as an adult.

"Girl Ghostbusters"
Kamurai251 January 2021
Decent watch, probably won't watch again, and can recommend if you're looking for more ghost stories.

While there are certainly a lot of better things to watch, I don't think you'd be wasting your time on this. It reminds me a lot of "Nancy Drew", and "The Babysitter's Club" meets "Ghostbusters".

For a cast of "no names" the actors all did very well, and the story is actually really solid. One of the faults of the movie is probably the special effects, while not bad, but just not good enough. The movie could benefit from some higher quality actors, but it's just not designed to be a great movie.

The movie is what it is, a cute little film about girls getting ghosts.

Mixed mush.

Could have been decent with better actors. It is dragged down by a bad lead and some bad effects. You won't miss much here.

Cute idea but missing so much

The acting is atrocious in this movie so you'll have to attempt to look over it. There is zero back story of why this "evil" spirit suddenly pops up when the new girl arrives. There's actually no story to this movie at all except some high school kids wanting to be paranormal researchers that have absolutely no clue what they are doing. Outside of the three main characters, everyone else is just filler. Possibly, if Nickelodeon had made or produced this movie, it would have stood a chance. This however is subpar at best.

Really bad remake from the 1986
twarnick-3602821 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It couldn't pull me away from my phone it was that bad.

It's like Disney wrote it and did another bad movie. They gender swapped everyone.

I still can't believe this became a TV series.

It's Jeeper Creepers W-Ok-E junk.

It's a movie about a girl fleeing unsafe Chicago to Kansas City, Missouri. All the males are weak, stupid, dying, or getting bullied by mean white girls wearing white face with male gay hench things. They say Missouri is an unlocked door city, which is a lie.

They remade this again, but with male black face.

At 55 min mark I was ready to turn off this offal film.

I recommend that you watch something else.

Has the potential to be a good weekend or evening watch but is completely ruined by the lead.
chogan-8936710 August 2019
The film overall was pretty enjoyable with mixed acting but majorately those close to the lead were fairly good actors. The lead however, let the film down with her over the top facial expressions and inability to express any kind of emotion except pain constantly throughout the movie, it would have passed as an 8/10 had they brought in a better actress to play the lead. Also the girl who plays the bully was a shockingly bad actor , her role felt unnecessary in the film and the CGI was sub par in some area's.

Goosebumps meets Disney for a Mixed Bag
wwejournalist21 August 2019
If this movie had come out under the title Goosebumps: School Spirits, or Are You Afraid of the Dark: School Spirits it wouldn't have surprised me, likewise had this been on the Disney Channel given the majority of the cast.

The whole way through it gave me that same kind of low budget, pre-teeny horror vibe, so much so that I expected Slappy the Puppet to pop out at any second and scare the bejesus out of me.

The visual effects are definitely a mixed bag, with some looking fantastic while others look like they've been put together in Windows Movie Maker (look out for the iPhone being 'taken' by the smoke!)

The plot starts out quite interesting but unfortunately it loses its thread somewhat and by the end you'll be scratching your head as to what motive the 'big bad' had in the first place.

Casting is equally puzzling.

Tiffany Alvord, cast in the lead role, made a name for herself as a YouTube musician, and she's very good at that. Acting, not so much... but it's her first film so cut her some slack, right?

Two of the worst performances come from two characters who don't really even need to be in the movie.

Audrey Whitbey plays the school bully and is appallingly bad, like school hall pantomime bad. Her character adds nothing to the film and she never really gets her comeuppance for being a spoiled brat.

Philip Laves plays Link, the weird next door neighbour and kind of second thought love interest for Zoe the main character.

I've seen this guy in other things and he wasn't bad, but it's like he was told 'you know that Fred guy who was big on the internet a few years ago? Yeah, do that' and it just comes across as forced and bizarre.

Much like the bully, Link's involvement never really has a resolution either.

In summary this is perfectly watchable, especially if you're a fan of the old Goosebumps series, but don't expect too much and be prepared for a lack of resolution.

ghost squad

Warning: Spoilers
Its pretty good. No horror stuff which is what wanted when I was looking for something to watch. Good for kids in my opinion. I like the way Zoey was surprised she heard her mom's voice while trying to trap an evil ghost and left the recording for her dad to hear.
