If you're a fan of rock and roll legend David Bowie, HBO has a new documentary coming out called David Bowie: The Last Five Years and today we have the first trailer for you to watch! The film chronicles the last five year of Bowie's life, the evolution of his music, and it puts a focus on his final two albums, which are "The Next Day" from 2013, and "Blackstar", which was released in 2016, Bowie's 69th birthday, just two days before his death. The doc will also touch on the rock stage musical "Lazarus", which he barely completed before he passed away.
As a long time fan of Bowie, this is a film I'm very much looking forward to watching. It looks like it will be a moving tribute to the legendary rock star.

Legendary glam/punk photographer Mick Rock is a primary player in music/ rock history, having provided some of the most iconic rock imagery to grace the careers and album covers of artists like Bowie, Blondie, Lou Reed, Queen and Iggy Pop.
Rock captured key moments from classic concerts including that iconic shot of Bowie performing fellatio on Mick Ronson’s guitar during the Ziggy Stardust era. He also designed the album covers of Bowie’s Space Oddity, Lou Reed’s Transformer, Iggy and The Stooges’ Raw Power and directed many of Bowie’s music videos.
Rock’s unruly work Mo was also a lifestyle choice. Integrating hard partying and meditation into his photography/practice by saturating himself in the event he was covering instead of adopting the role of a passive observer, yet Rock provided some outstanding imagery as a result.

A video essay examines our most private moments.
Strap on your thinking caps for this one, film fans, because it’s a doozy.
According to director Nicolas Roeg (The Man Who Fell to Earth, Don’t Look Now, The Witches), mirrors are cinema in all its glory and in fact the essence of the medium. See, mirrors are the only time we truly look at ourselves; photographs of us are from other perspectives, for other people or posterity, and as such we don’t show our real faces in them, we show projections of who we think we should be or how we think we should feel in a certain situation. But the mirror isn’t public, it’s private, it is us alone with ourselves and thus the way we look into mirrors, into ourselves, is different from every other face we show the world.

Chuck Berry’s Chuck, his first album in 38 years, will come out this year. It’s hard to say whether Berry recorded it — with his longtime backing band — knowing that his remaining time was limited, but he did include a dedication to his wife Themetta in the album’s release statement: “My darlin’, I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!”
However the record turns out, it will be impossible to listen to it without Berry’s death coloring how we enjoy the music. Given that the...

David Bowie’s final album “Blackstar” may not have been the singer-songwriter’s so-called death record. Jonah Renck, the director of the music video for Bowie’s single “Lazurus,” told the Guardian that the concept of the video was conceived before Bowie knew his cancer was terminal, and that it was his idea — not Bowie’s — to have the singer lie in a hospital bed for the video.

“I immediately said ‘the song is called Lazarus, you should be in the bed’,” Renck told the Guardian. “To me it had to do with the biblical aspect of it … it had nothing to do with him being ill.”
The shooting of the video took place around the time Bowie received his final diagnosis, roughly three months before his death last January.

Fact Magazine reports that a new David Bowie documentary will be out next year, courtesy of the BBC. This look back at the late icon is being helmed and produced by Francis Whately, as a follow-up to his previous Thin White Duke doc, David Bowie—Five Years. This latest endeavor, titled David Bowie: The Last Five Years, includes previously unseen footage of Bowie hard at work on his final two albums, The Next Day and Blackstar. There will also be a look at the Lazarus musical, which has just opened in London. Most tantalizingly, The Last Five Years will include a look at the last recording Bowie ever made, which was of an a cappella Lazarus performance.
Additionally, Whately’s including more new interviews, as well as longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti’s efforts in rounding up the Next Day band to recreate some select tracks. Whately said of...

MTV’s annual Video Music Awards are set to air this Sunday night, and — as usual — the film world couldn’t possibly care less. And that’s understandable. After all, we have enough award shows of our own to worry about, and the VMAs are better known for Britney Spears tongue-kissing Madonna (what a scandal!) than they are for celebrating great art.
But perhaps we’re being a bit too hasty and dismissive. The interplay between movies and music videos has been thoroughly documented, but a glance at the list of recent Vma winners is enough to suggest that relationship is growing stronger, and might even demand a greater degree of critical attention. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” director Francis Lawrence may not be receiving many accolades for his film work, but the clip he created for Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” won MTV’s highest honor. “Detention” was widely...

It’s hard to imagine MTV holding the interest of anyone over the age of 16, but these days they don’t even come across as being in touch enough for the younger demographic. This year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) nominees have been announced, and for the most part the network seems intent on shoving the same artists down our throats that it did five years ago.
You can count the DJ/producers nominated for VMAs in 2016 on one hand: Calvin Harris, 99 Souls, Afrojack, Alesso and The Chainsmokers. Even Skrillex and SeeB’s names were left curiously absent from the nominations for Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza,” respectively, even though the latter song marks Posner’s first relevant single since 2011.
