Domestic problems
Naomi (Ryôko Hirosue) and Kanako (Yuki Uchida) are very good friends, with a great relationship and not afraid of helping with each other's problems. Naomi is having problems at her work, because she is not being promoted as she thinks she deserves, the reason being that she is a woman. Kanako is just recently married, and seems happy to be a housewife.
But Naomi discovers that Kanako is having problems with her husband, and decides to do something about it, even though Kanako doesn't seem too happy about Naomi invading her life and tells her that "what do you know about it? you are not married! you are lonely!" and similar.
The first episode of "Naomi & Kanako" puts the basis of a very easy to understand and to follow story. Kanako is being bullied by her husband, and Naomi decides to help because she is her friend. In that respect, the show does a good enough job of showing how Kanako position as a woman is a weak one. That a character tells Naomi that she's special because she's more assertive than normal sounds a little bit hollow, though.
But this first episode seems to show that both friends are not going to take their position down and will not allow to be pushed around, which seems interesting enough. Nonetheless, there is not much tension, and the story wanders and repeats itself a little bit. It needs more focus.
