In my honest opinion this documentary is acted out with real movie and television actors. I would suggest anyone and everyone to just try watching these true crime stories episodes. Rated by me an 8.

Attention grabbing and rarely dull

I watch a lot of crime documentaries, and this was right up there with the best. They tend to tell the story with no fluff and there is rarely a slow moment. They use actors to recreate everything but the story is told by the "real detectives"...
Most of the acting seems realistic with a few flubs now and then. If you pay close attention, you'll see a lot of reusing of vehicles and locations from one episode to another but it doesn't take away from the story being told.
While not a straight up conventional documentary, they do a good job of keeping the recreated story true to the facts and do a good enough job that you feel like you really get to know the people involved. I wrote this fresh off this specific episode but my thoughts apply to the full series thus far as well. They've done very well with a fairly low budget.
Highly recommend.
