Enjoyable.
charles-934-89114914 July 2018
I watched this with my disabled kid, and I think that I found it more enjoyable than he did. The classic story told in a great way to appeal to younger audiences.

I particularly liked the way that the more unsavoury subjects were covered, especially the dog fighting. Rather than ignore it for fear of upsetting people, to me. it was covered perfectly. Nothing too graphic.

My dog loved it

I love this movie. And the animation was brilliant and so unique that my dog was totally engaged...and barking at the screen.

White Fang is a coming-of-age story with heart.
Animany942 June 2019
Without judging it by how faithful it is to the source material, I'd say White Fang does a good job as a movie. It may not be the conventional family film, as it takes a slower and more dramatic path in its story telling with less dialogue and a stylized but realistic animation style.

Sit really depends on how much you like the book and how you like your animation. This is not for everyone, but I mostly enjoyed its approach towards telling its story of this wolf-dog growing up and being thrown around between different kinds of people good or bad and how he copes with it.

Some times there is a little uncanny valley tendecies in the human designs, but the backgrounds when fully shown look really nice and grand. And if you're kind of an emotional person like me, you'll probably shed a tear here and there.

Mixed bag

I wanted to like this film more than I did, as the general story, theme and atmosphere were quite nice, but there were some flaws that I can't get away from and have to take into account for my rating.

I'd say the biggest one for me was the animation. Quite a bit of it felt quite jerky and unnatural, and the emotions in the human faces were lacking. A lot of the time it felt like I was watching video game cutscenes rather than a film. The words even seemed to be quite out of sync a lot of the time. Fortunately there was quite a bit more emotion coming from White Fang.

The other main criticism I have is that some things just didn't make much sense. The only example I'll mention is when Maggie is suddenly anxious when she apparently forgets that she left White Fang with the chickens, only a couple of minutes after she was talking about it with her husband. It may seem minor but it can still affect the viewing experience.

Overall I'd say it was a nice Friday evening watch but I'll probably not watch it again.

A peaceful movie
drakerword19 November 2018
Actually I give a 7.5, is a very good movie, I love the animation, that style oil painting was very good, very good story, the first hour of the movie I found it very entertaining and peaceful, the only problem I have with this film are the last 30 minutes you start finding problems in the script and the story is no longer completely entertaining, still I am satisfied with the movie and is one of the best animations of the 2018 so far.

This is good!

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie the other day, and it was very good!

I can't compare it, or review it in relation to the book as I haven't read the original white fang book so I dunno how close the movie is to the original; I imagine it does have differences but what are they I don't know. I DO however know that ending of movie is different from the novel, but that's pretty much it.

Anyway I liked the story the movie had in it anyway as it was well written, and you could understand what was going on. They did however cut out the more upsetting parts, but that is understandable as it could be upsetting for some viewers to see that sort of thing. I liked that they went with the realistic direction, and made white fang not talk instead making him act like a normal animal unlike most movies with animals now a days.

The animation was beautiful, and well done with a pretty watercolor look to it; in a way it kinda reminded me of a how some video games looked too. I even liked how creepy the main villain looked!

So all in all I loved this film, and I hope it comes out on video as I want this movie for my film collection!

Why is the animation so bad?
niriath9 January 2023
Sure, it's not entirely White Fang as we know from the books. Less brutal and depressing, it's a more child friendly story and it's beautifully done, don't get me wrong..

But why is the animation done so badly? It looked more like some kind of late 90's pc game rather than an actual movie that came out in 2018. If the animation was on par this could have been an instant classic, why they chose to go this way with it is beyond me.

Bit of a drama, poor animation and film quality. Still, it's a fine animation.
XueHuaBingYu26 July 2018
I saw the book for a thousand times, but never read it. When I saw the animation, I was so interested and so, I watched it. Since I haven't read the book, so, I don't know what his writings look like and how the original story goes. Thus, I can only write a review based on the animation.

The story is quite simple, but I don't know how it has got to do with what they wrote in the description. What I saw in the film, it's totally different from the one they wrote in the description right here on IMDB. I don't even see the wolf's friend is searching for his family.

The story is quite cold. It looks like drama, so, it first made me bored. I even wanted to stop watching, but I continued anyway. The story is quite good. In some scenes, it touched me, so, I even cried.

The animation is not that good. It looks like a Japanese animation and an old film. If they could improve the animation somehow, it'd be better than this.

All in all, the story itself is fine. I bet drama lovers would love it. But animation and film quality need to be improved.

Beautiful story telling
felipe-2942425 July 2018
This simple and compelling narrative makes this an enjoyable movie to watch with or without children. It's subtle, believable and captures the beauty of nature wonderfully (which is refreshing since there is no lack of over-the-top movies out there). This one is a winner. Well done!

Well done by itself, but barely White Fang.
austink-493548 August 2018
I hate to be so brutal as to only give this movie 5 stars as it was a good film for the most part, but I cannot abide the rewriting of an American Classic such as this. While I understand the choice to mitigate the violence expressed in the book for young viewers, I do believe the screenwriters did a disservice to Jack London's writing by changing characters, their motives, and even the ending. Netflix's White Fang is a solid children's movie, but a poor depiction of Jack London's classic.

A Happy Ending
nkayf9 June 2019
This movie was on the children's list for Netflix. Of course, it is an original, we decided we would watch this new one! From beginning to end you just want this wolf to make it. I loved this movie, even the sad parts. Was glad it had a happy ending. Would watch 100 more times! Go white fang!

White Fang in Name Alone
striderdragon5 September 2018
To start, despite the rating I do have at least something positive to say of this film. The animation is astounding in much of this piece. It took a challenging and beautiful artistic effect to give the film a feel of an oil painting come to life. There is a clear intention behind the designs, movement, and all of it comes together to draw you into a world that is a delight to view. The art team behind this film clearly had a vision in mind and that passion to make it happen. Taken away from the plot and only viewing the animation is like experiencing a masterwork come alive right off the canvas.

However it is unforgivable that this is bares the name White Fang, claiming to be based on the classic Jack London's book, to a point that the artistry behind this film is besmirched. Characters are only loosely based on the story and most in appearance alone. Motivations and personalities are monumentally changed and much of the plot goes in drastically different directions from the original work. From beginning to end very little of the plot has any bases in the book beyond a very basic understanding of the original work, changing everything from the personalities of some major characters to even the full backstory of the main character.

It is honestly to be expected that an adaptation might loose something or be changed when shifting from one media to the other, but this goes well beyond needed changes. This "adaptation" changes so much from the original source that it looses the key elements from the original story, including much of the story's moral and intentions. It can't be excused that the story was changed to make it more kid friendly either as this movie does not shy away from violent aspects of the plot, one of the only minor details from the book that this movie kept.

Truly the art is amazing in this film and I want to say its a good film, but it goes so out of the way to differentiate itself from it's source material that it becomes more of an insult to the classic then paying homage. Had this film not claimed the name White Fang and had tried instead to be something it's own, a motive the writers clearly were trying to do, then there might be more to say about the end result. There was clearly a passion behind the animation of this film, but the direction and writing were so poorly misguided that it simply can't be overlooked. Had the animation been focused into an original work or behind direction that intended to make a true adaptation, then this would have been a film for the ages. As it stands now, this is a carefully polished ball of dung.

Well done
mommapaige27 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love this movie. I grew up reading the book, as a child the abridged version, and as a teen and adult, the unabridged. The movie was rather faithful to the book in most aspects with the exception of the ending. This movie cut out the entire ending of the book, and with other references to the story in shows and other movies (New Girl), I honestly thought I misremembered the ending, thinking I had the abridged versions ending in my head, until I reread the original story to realize I was right. That was disappointing to know they cut out a good portion of the story, but overall I loved this adaption.

Excellent storytelling
ethanataylor30 August 2018
I feel this movie had all the important elements of a good story. It connected me with the White Fang as a character. There was a lot of visual storytelling at play, especially in the first section of the movie, which is a style I sincerely appreciate when done well, which I feel was the case here.

I found that I cared what happened to White Fang and it had significsnt

NPC chars of video game playing banal script
pokidyok9 August 2018
Idk, this doesn't look like children cartoon on the one hand, but on the other it's way too cheesy. Ok plot was changed, okaay. But those things when dog understands people without any repetitive habits(like killing chicken) or even not attacking unknown people or stopping when he is told, looks weird. New people quickly become his commanders. Idk this all looks stupid...

But the worst thing is animation. It's like an intro to the video game of early 2000. The cartoon character move and speak as NPCs. In 2018! Yeah, good idea to draw the 3-d models in the style of paintworks. Cool, but make them move naturally. Or at least move their jaw adequately...

I was disappointed. The cartoon could be more dramatic and really cool, just more reality and better animation.

Skip it. Starts off good enough but gets silly towards the end. This is more or less for ages 12 and under. Plus I think they changed way too much of the original story.

Completely different from book,
ja120721 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
White Fang, the book by Jack London is 1/2 of my first ever book read (along with The Call of the Wild). Though this movie has many differences from the book, the ending just sealed the deal for me as that this is NOT a White Fang movie. He was supposed to be domesticated. Had they titled this movie differently, then I would give it a higher score (or atleast never would've watched it). But they just had to use that title to entice us who read the book. And honestly, I was just quite disappointed.
