Good acting, socially relevant
contact-173468 July 2018
This indy drama had all the ingredients. A good story, good acting, and really nice technical execution. It's socially relevant to, and a clever hook. A great example of independent film in the digital era.

This is what an indie movie should be!
fredwilharm21 September 2018
Shot primarily in one location and with a tiny cast, Broken Ceiling wastes little time on setup and gets right to the punch, which is a corporate conference call that lasts for most of the film. It's what happens during that call that grabs you by the shirt collar and won't let go. The casting is excellent and the film has a bleak yet polished look. Plenty of twists and turns in the story to keep you hanging. Don't miss it!

A relatable workplace thriller
viknesh-silva28 February 2019
A relatable workplace drama that keeps you engaged. In the dog eat dog corporate world we live in this film shows the impact it will have on ones character. Will you be able to walk away from a deal? Shot in a single location is reminded which can make the viewers feel claustrophobic at times, something which the characters are facing too. You will be rooting for the right person in this one

Karan Kendrick and a terrific script make an excellent film.
Anmer9324 July 2019
Setting a film in one location is no easy task, that said this film hits he mark in a big way. With an excellent script and terrific Central performances, especially the fantastic Karan Kendrick, this film is about so much more than office politics.

Such a treat of a film!

WOW! What a nice treat! The actress who plays Angela is so good. I just loved her character. I was pulling for her early on. You can so feel her plight, which is the plight for so many. I felt she well represented the tons of people that have been in her position. I really disliked some of the other characters, but this is a compliment because they acted so well. The acting was just great throughout. A film the is for sure worth watching.

Ugly Business

Broken Ceiling starts off with intense aggression. This indie film was well-made and shows the disgust of the real world of business. Terrifying how people can be so deceiving. Totally worth a watch!

Exciting twists and turns
JGReviews1 February 2019
Broken Ceiling is an indie drama about three employees and their abusive boss. One day the lying and abuse by the boss comes to a head during a vitally important conference call. The employees are pushed to their breaking point after realizing they will be fired or passed over for promotion yet again, culminating in one employee bringing out a gun during the call. What follows is an incredibly intense back and forth where characters explain themselves, throw out accusations, and still try to preserve their job by closing the deal on the phone. I found Broken Ceiling to be a particularly interesting drama that felt like a indie gem you would find at a film festival. I think many of us have gotten to our breaking point working for a terrible boss and you wonder how far you would take it to expose them or defend your dignity. I really enjoyed Karen Kendrick's performance and look forward to seeing her in other films. I found the story of Broken Ceiling to be very interesting and there were several satisfying twists along the way to make for a highly enjoyable viewing experience. I'd highly recommend Broken Ceiling to anyone.

A taught, intense, well-performed walk through the corporate dark side of the film industry
MariaAllred30 March 2019
Not only is this a tightly woven walk through the dark side of the film industry, but a cinematic walk through the hierarchical ranks of corporate America, as shown through the protagonist, "Angela's" viewpoint. Though limited to a small space, the story casts a broad and sweeping net of meaning and moral. The end provides a satisfying twist and a redemptive exit. We are left with an allegory told by powerful performances and worlds imagined through colorful dialogical storytelling. A real gem!

Thought provoking
mattymotivate5 February 2019
Intense and well acted, this film will have you thinking of the struggles of being stuck in the hamster wheel of corporate America. Karan Kendrick does a great job holding the film up and really portrays the obstacles of her character well. Great film to start a conversation about the way we live our lives. Definitely worth checking out.

Smart and Unrelenting
kjs114424 July 2019
This is an excellent study of the corporate world, and how one's identity can be consumed by the place in which they work. The structure is really strong, and the viewer is kept on the edge of their seat the whole time. The directing choices, and the acting are excellent. This movie is smart and unrelenting. Highly recommend this one!

Great film!
bmillertime-2422110 September 2019
This is a really eye opening movie! It follows a women working at a 9-5 job who is treated unfairly due to her skin color and the fact that she's a women. All of her pent up anger finally reaches a boiling point, making her a force to be reckoned with. The story line is interestingly and relatable to the current job crisis in America, and the fight for equal women's pay. I was impressed by the cinematography and the acting was spot on! I would definitely recommend watching this movie!

Interesting film about workplace inequality and cruelty
benhallfilm-1-7957433 August 2020
Although the premise and entrance into the story are a little shaky, the film's motives and themes are incredibly relevant, and well crafted as they tackle workplace inequality and cruelty. Couple those specific and piercing themes with solid actors and a visual style like that of an episode of "House of Cards", you get something pretty interesting, slightly claustrophobic, and captivating. For a bit, you're not sure where the story is going, but where it lands is satisfying and makes you think.

Intense and Necessary
alexanderhanno22 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I had no clue what to expect going into "Broken Ceiling" and so often with indie films, that can lead to a massive let down. HOWEVER, in the case of Adam Davis' latest feature I was quite pleasantly surprised with the end result. The movie, which centers around an African-American employee exacting a sort of revenge for the way white male higher ups have held her back through the years, is tactful in the way that it illustrates the horrid power dynamics still in play in the corporate world, despite the progress that's been made of late. Movies like this are incredibly important to help teach audiences about inequality in the work place, especially those audiences who either don't personally experience it, or those that do and don't realize it.

Make no mistake though, this flick is intense. Throughout the movie, it feels like you're sitting in a pressure cooker, for emotions are flying and characters are forced to revaluate their blind understanding of the world in an instant literally under the gun. You genuinely don't know what's going to happen next: Will the police arrive? Will a bullet fly? Will someone back down or act up? There are plenty of twists and luckily, none of them feel cheap in the least.

Lastly, a special shout out to actor Regen Wilson who plays head-honcho Ken Wolfe and delivers an excellent performance as the charming antagonist who is hard to hate. His performance helps to clarify and solidify why men in his position of power are able to get away with so much. As one of the other characters even says, "He's just too good a salesman." (I might have butchered that line, sorry!) Rounded antagonists with empathetic backstories make or break films for me, and I found his role to be well put together, from the writing to the acting. And that final monologue? Tragic.

Drama with twists that is worth seeing.
rob-burrows1-123 October 2018
As this film opened I did wonder if it was going be over acted somewhat without a build-up to the initial emotional scene. However I was disabused of this idea. It was a well paced drama that kept me engaged with convincing characters well acted and well scripted and with multiple twists.

A film that shows the strength and commitment of women
sheamart-9541615 April 2019
A really good and important film about women tired of being discriminated against in the workplace and passed over for promotions because of the belief that men "because they have a higher degree of intelligence." This story really riled me up and makes me want to do more and to fight the system and raise awareness about the issue. A very enjoyable film with a great message as well as a really good cast!
